I do believe this is the very first fic that has Tootsie Flute not be gay.
And a very interesting and believable explanation for Diamond Tiara's Cutie Mark. She certainly has a gift for manipulation, and she did make the paper popular. Using horrible methods, but still.
You know, Diamond Tiara as newspaper editor actually made me like her when I didn't before.
She was great. Everything but the blackmail was pure J.Jonah Jameson (which I see you noticed as well).
And it was probably the first time she seemed interested in something other than meanness for meanness' sake. Even the blackmail was just a means to an end rather than a way of hurting ponies.
As for the story, it used humor pretty well. I especially appreciated the part where Diamond Tiara stopped her plan to commiserate with Applebloom about the horrible substitute teacher.

I disagree though with the claim that Diamond is not an honest pony. I can't remember one time she has lied. Everything she and Silver Spoon told the CMC was a truth (a cruel truth but truth none the less) or an observation that they believe to be true such as the case with Flight to The Finish.
