I can see where this is going. Can't wait.
*twitch* *twitch* WAIT you're "not sure how much bronzes make a silver and how much silvers make a gold, and so on."!?!? It's you story!!
*twitch*
I can see this getting interesting quickly. Hope Big Mac gets through this.
It looks like Mac may be getting his element here. I do feel sorry for him. He is being pushed around. I hope when he pushes back it isn't gong to be on somepony he cares about.
5858147 well, how about just going by the standard. one hundred bronze get one silver. one hundred silver get a gold, and one hundred gold get a platinum. its done that way in most fantasy games, books and movies.
5858192 true but then you get Harry Potter to throw a monkey wrench which makes the writer's "I dunno" all the more twilight twitch inducing....
5858147 Well, i'm the technical type - what is the worth of bronze compared to silver or gold? Or silver over bronze and compared to gold?
5858207 true true, so, how about we leave it up to midnight here.
5858240 The ratios would be different on a different planet. Also, since when did the price of 100 pieces of copper and zinc equal the price of a piece of fancy paper? Currency does not necessarily follow the same value as its component parts... Especially if bits only appear to be gold, silver and bronze, and not purely the minerals themselves. (Personally, I like doing conversions in even 10s, like 10 Bronze to a Silver and 10 Silver to a Gold, but since ponies have 4 hooves and not 10 fingers it would probably be more logical for them to have a base 4, 8, 12 or 16+number system. My conclusion? 12 Bronze to a Sliver, 12 Silver to a Gold. Take it or leave it!)
First off, given what can be bought with bits, I expect that either they are made of brass instead of gold, gold is far more common in their world, or Ponyville is something similar to a boomtown, where there is a nearby readily available but normally rare resource causing local prices to inflate horribly. Really, ten gold bits for a single cherry seems more than just a bit excessive, even on a barter system.
Also, while the show has the coin faces being blank circles with a raised edge, it is far more likely that one side shows Celestia, and the other side either shows a historical structure or monument.
So metal wise, I suggest:
4 Copper Bits to a Brass Bit.
4 Brass Bits to a Bronze Bit.
4 Bronze Bits to a Silver Bit.
4 Silver Bits to a Gold Bit.
4 Bits to a Trade Bar of the same type of metal.
4 Trade Bars to a Bullion Brick of the same type of metal.
Wow, some people were really into the details of how much you made bits worth in this chapter. I didn't mind, as it's not the biggest thing to worry about, cause the show never did a good job explaining bits to begin with. I will say that at least it's easier to remember then the currency in D&D. I hate remembering how much between copper, silver and gold while trying to roleplay.
Anyway, great chapter... As aslways. I love how well you give character to the... characters. Okay, that sounded much better in my head.
Oh really I made it two in my universe.
