I'm going to work on editing "Ambition Undying" in the near future, but I think I'll try to get another chapter of "Sensation" out first. I'm hoping to get back to my update schedule of every 2-3 weeks now that the holidays have settled down.

It's fun to see several of the reader's emotions mimicked in vivid's thoughts and reactions to Soarin's story thus far. It makes it easier to connect with him somehow.

The first paragraphs of this chapter are also a neat way of illustrating how Sensation won't end on the classic living happily ever after, as much as that might be what one might wish for them, and that there is a greater story than the 'adventure' so far. Lines like cracks forming at the edges of beautiful illusions serve this job wonderfully. Part of me fears it, but then again, I loved the story so far for it's more believable depiction of romance and characters, with it's multifaceted nature, flaws and obstacles to be overcome, and I'm not about to even consider to stop reading anytime soon.

I greatly appreciate how this story handles emotions and how they might influence situations and reactions, in outbursts of worry, disappointment or anger, but then contrasted later with apologies, understanding or a calmer train of thought. It's also probably the strongest aspect of this chapter that lingers long after having read it. Braeburn being concerned about his town more than anything else, but seeming to rationalize it, not necessarily blame Soarin for it, and even forgive Soarin for his lie, in a rather heartwarming fashion. I love the line: "you're off to a good start." I like to think of it as Brae trusting Soarin's feelings to be genuine, despite any mistakes he might make.

Braeburn calls Soarin Big Black now? Didn't it use to be Big Blue? ^^

Thanks! The self-insert aspect irks a lot of people, but looking back, I don't really regret it. Like you alluded to, I'm hoping that Syn - while he does have his own motivations and character aspects - can still act as a stand-in for the reader somewhat.

Glad the characters seem real, too. In my experience, adults are usually pretty forgiving once the initial shock and fear of a situation passes, and I don't like it when stories get bogged down in grudges and secrets. As for the foreshadowing, I'm trying to be very careful with it. Good thing, too. It sounds like you've been paying good attention to it.

Aaaaaaand he'll be back to "Big Blue" soon enough. "Big Black" is a reference to a certain anatomical feature from chapter 19.

You're right, though. "You're off to a good start" has a lot of sentimental meaning behind it, and I think Braeburn is really learning trust this crazy blue pegasus that fell out of the sky.

Thanks for sharing! I've never hear that song before, but I think it would be a great theme. There are actually a few different songs that have inspired large parts of the story (especially how it ends), but I think sharing them would spoil a little too much.

And a great question, too! Anyone else that's reading these comments have a good theme song for Sensation?

I really like how you portray Appleloosa in this story. Other than Fertile Seed, nopony's really been a dick to Braeburn about being gay. It's mostly all in his head. Nice change from the typical "everypony hates teh gayz" that is so characteristic of Appleloosa/Southern Equestria in many of these stories.

And thanks for the feedback on Appleloosa! I wanted to keep it realistic, where the town certainly has some assholes in it, but most people are actually pretty accepting. It's crazy how lost in our own heads we can get and how surprising others' reactions can be. #BasedOnATrueStory
