We've Made It...

Twilight lightly dipped her quill into the ink. A big piece of paper sat in front of her. The candle sitting nearby flickered as a breeze flew through an open window. Taking a deep breath, she began to write.

Dear Princess Celestia,

Twilight's eye twitched as she quickly crossed out her mistake. Shaking her head, she tried to laugh it off.

Wow, a couple of years and you would think I would have stopped calling you Princess. I feel like a filly, unable to grasp the lesson.

Being young, those were the days...

Twilight sighed as she dipped her quill back into the ink and then began again.

Its been at least 48 moons since I last wrote you a letter. My, the times sure have flown right by me. So many things have happened over the years. Rainbow is now captain of the Wonderbolts. Wasn't that hard for her, considering her Element of Loyalty and ability to change the Wonder Bolts from the inside out. Back before she joined them, even I had to admit that some of the higher ups were jerks. Leave it to Rainbow Dash to change that as soon as she is accepted in. The changes were slow at first, Rainbow becoming more and more busy. To the point we hardly ever saw her. But we heard of her deeds almost every week. Slowly, Rainbow rebuilt their reputation as the fastest flyers AND the best team out there. She became well known pretty quickly, didn't she? Though, being a hero of Equestria multiple times may just help get your image much higher to the top, much faster.

Last I heard, she was training recruits to do the Sonic Rainboom. So far, no pony has yet to accomplish this. I think that secretly, Rainbow Dash relishes in this but still wants to pass down what she knows. She isn't getting any younger you know.

Then there's Rarity. I remember spending so much time convincing her that she needed to follow her dream, even if it meant leaving her home. Having to leave for long periods of time really made us sad, especially once Rainbow started to be seen less and less as well. But she made it. She is currently living the big life with the upper class ponies. I see her face every now and again on a magazine. We haven't talked in some time. I'm sure she's just busy... She's always busy...

Twilight looked up, her mind starting to flow with memories of the past. Twilight shook the thoughts away. Now was not the time to get lost in ones memories.

Sorry, I spaced out for a second. Wait I'm writing exactly what I am thinking now?

Twilight looked up in surprise. She rubbed her head with her hoof before continuing.

Where was I? Ah yes, Fluttershy has opened up a small pet hospital that accepts all animals. Even the most craziest of ones. Just last week, a Pixie came in with a splinter up its foot. I didn't even think they existed. Leave it to Fluttershy to fight past the impossible. She gets so many creatures in everyday, its wonder how she even sleeps. Or if she sleeps at all. I wish we could catch up sometime. Its been so long since we last had tea together... She used to be the best listener in the world. It was nice to have somepony like that to talk to...

Sorry, it seems I must be tired. My eyes are starting to water up like crazy. Just need a minute is all...

Twilight leaned back in her chair taking in deep breaths before continuing.

Pinkie Pie has gone global. She now travels around Equestria giving parties to those who need a smile. I remember the day she came to me with this idea. At first she was excited at the idea of bringing joy to the world in way she never thought before. But then she became rather flustered when she realized that meant leaving Ponyville and hardly seeing her friends. I told her that she hardly sees us anyways, everypony being so busy and all. It took some time, but eventually Pinkie decided to go with her plan. It was hard to see her go. She used to visit me a lot after Rarity and Rainbow left. The library has never been so quiet. I keep waking up every morning expecting to hear a party going on downstairs. Ponyville seems almost boring without her around. Its like her laughter kept this place colorful. Now that she is gone... Its just so quiet...

Twilight sighed and wiped her eyes with her hoof. The candle seemed to glow dimmer for a moment as another breeze blew through the window. After taking a small break, she bent over, wanting to focus on finishing the letter. "Pull yourself together Twilight, " she muttered to herself.

Apple Jack's farm has expanded thanks to Filthy Rich. Apple Jack now practically runs the apple economy of Equestria. Her family has never been more happy. Their house has actually grown in size and the farm looks more like an actual forest. As you can imagine, Apple Jack has a lot of work on her hooves. Traveling around to sell apples to even the most remote locations. Not a pony in Equestria can say they don't know what an Apple Family Apple product is. Apple Jack has traveled so much, she told me last time we talked about a month ago that she actually ran into Pinkie. It was good to hear that she was doing fine. Pinkie is the one pony we hear from the least at this point.

Finally, Spike is off with Sweetie Bell. Who knew they would make such an adorable couple? Last I heard, Spike was helping her with her travel musician concert. Its just so weird not having Spike around. But he is all grown up now. I guess it was too much to expect he would be around forever. Scootaloo is off doing daredevil shows, while Apple Bloom is coming up with invention after invention to help make transporting apples easier. Last I heard, she was going to create a contraption that could fly the apples to any location. Isn't that just amazing? But if any pony can do it, it would be her. Hard to believe they were once just fillies coming into my library looking for guidance. Trying to get their marks in anyway possible. It didn't really hit them what their special talents were until they finally stopped to really think about it. Though, it still had to be pointed out by another friend anyways.

Twilight let out a dry laugh before continuing.

Its just me here currently in Ponyville. I wanted to write to you and tell you that we made it. Our dreams have happened and every pony is happy. Every... Single... Pony...

Celestia... If I may be so bold to ask, how do you deal with it? How do you deal with change? I realize things can never be the same but why is change so hard? How do you live every day with a smile on your face? When did life stop being about friendship?

Why does it hurt?! Why can't everypony just stay here forever?! Why do I have to be alone?!

Twilight put down her quill and watched as drops of water began to sprinkle the page. Twilight shut her eyes to try and hold back the tears. Sniffing and taking a deep breath, she picked up the quill and wrote one last thing.

Celestia, I am writing to tell you that we made it.

They made it... But I feel like I was left behind.

Your Faithful ex-student
Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight leaned back in her chair. Her work finally done, she lit up her horn and sent the letter away. Twilight then leaned in towards the candle. The light briefly lighting up her tear soaked face. With a deep breath, she blew out the candle. The room quickly filling with a quiet darkness.

Author's Note:

Just came up with this after sitting down and looking back at my own life up till now. Made me wonder about Twilight and what if she was doing the same.

This needs to be featured, it's depressing as hell but other people need to read this.

Thanks, I normally don't do sad fics so it is nice to hear I did alright.

Huh. That was... calling it nice would make sound sadistic, so I'm going to go for sad. It was a good sad story.

4318312 Thanks for taking the time to read this man. Means a lot.

That was very sad but great to read. :fluttercry:

hmmm you should have a chapter where celestia gets the letter and her reactions and goes to her or sends a letter back. without that, this story didn't really do it for me.
but still an up vote.

Thanks, I actually have been considering a sequel though it will be awhile before I can get around to it.

A good story, but it didn't quite feel complete. You put forth this view of Twilight, but nothing changed. It's a slice of her life I suppose, but I felt you didn't have anything to say about it. There was no resolving chord. Has Twilight been left behind? What does friendship mean anymore? Is this how Twilight will feel forever? Or is this a crucible after which Twilight will come back a stronger person? The answer might be yes, it might be no--but this story raises the question and posits no answer. So it feels incomplete.

4465922 That's because I am planning on sequel. I just haven't been able to get to it yet. I am currently working on finishing up a world in Road to Twilight. Once that is finished, I plan on coming back to this.
