The Hardest Part

Derpy Hooves nervously trotted down her hallway as she made her way to her bedroom window. "No they can't be here already" she thought out loud as she looked down at two broad and muscular stallions.

"Let's move it Derpy, stop falling over and get out here already!" one of the stallions shout impatiently as he made eye contact with her.

Derpy gulped then scrambled over to her dresser and opened the bottom drawer and then took out 50 bits that were held in a piece of small, brown cloth and tied with an old rope. As she rushed down her steps, she tripped over her own hoof and tumbled down the stairs and slammed into her front door, the bits flying out of her mouth. Clumsily getting up she grabbed the bits then opened the front door to meet the two stallions staring at her.

One of the stallions chuckled, "Did you fall again?" he said as a smirk grew on his face. As his eyes made their way down to the cloth he snorted, "Is that the money? You expected us to take it in a dirty piece of cloth?" he frowned at her.

Derpy withdrew from a standing position into a crouch and clenched her teeth then closed her eyes, expecting him to beat her. When he did nothing she semi opened her left eye to still see both the stallions still staring at her, "N-n--n-o-o" she stuttered.

The other stallion leaned in so that his muzzle and her muzzle were almost touching, "Well let you go this time" she could feel his breath as he looked straight into her eyes, "but if it happens again, you'll never fly again" he snapped as he leaned back so that him and the other stallion were standing next to each other again. He snatched the bag from her mouth then turned and trotted the other way followed by the other stallion, "Don't be such a mistake next time!" he called to Derpy as he made his way down the street.

Derpy closed the door then fell onto the ground, "At least it wasn't as bad as last time" she mumbled to herself as she felt the scar on her arm. She started to feel tears dripping down her cheeks as she got up but quickly wiped them from her face. "You should go buy some food, Derpy" she said to herself as she made her way to her kitchen and opened the refrigerator to find that there was only some rotten cheese, a milk carton that was half full, and some loaves of bread.

Sighing, Derpy took a step out her door and looked around to see if there were and ponies around to bully her but there were only some fillies playing soccer in the field to her right. She took another step then another until she was at the edge of her walkway. She then looked around again. Nopony. As she walked down to the market she stopped in her tracks when she saw a group of ponies that usually would insult her talking to one another. One of them saw her and said something but Derpy didn't hear it nor did she want to. When the group started walking towards her she could feel her heart thumping in her chest as she turned around and began walking back to her house at a quick pace. When she started hearing their hoof steps get louder and louder behind her, she turned to see that the group of ponies had started to gallop.

She then started to run faster then she usually did but felt like she was getting nowhere. There were at least seven blocks till she got to her house and she knew that she couldn't keep the pace she was as so she turned down a block to her left that lead into the Everfree Forest. I will surely lose them in there she thought as she tripped over a root of a large oak tree and fell flat on her face. The voices of the group got louder as she got up quickly and tried to run again but fell when one of the member of the group stepped on her tail, she fell once more and was surrounded by the group. Derpy could feel her body shake as she looked up at a unicorn.

"Why are you out here all by yourself? Did your escort leave you?" the unicorn laughed at her own joke but stopped when she noticed that nopony else was laughing.

One stallion in the group kick Derpy on her arm where her scar was, "Oops! So sorry, I didn't mean any harm" he said with a sly grin on his face.

Derpy curled up into a ball and felt a tear drip from her eye. "Please let me go" she whimpered, closing her eyes.

The stallion frowned at Derpy, "What a loser" he said as she kicked Derpy in the arm again before walking away followed by the rest of the group.

Derpy got up with all the strength she had left in her body. She kept walking towards the Everfree Forest, not wanting to go in the same path the group was going. She limped slightly because of the pain in her arm but otherwise she was just shaken. Derpy stopped at the entrance of the Everfree Forest and glanced at a sign that said: Danger! Do NOT enter! Ignoring the sign she made her way into the dark and gloomy forest. As she walked she noticed that the path had changed from dirt into leaves and grass and that it had become darker then it was when she came in. Derpy looked up at the sky and saw that there were dark clouds in the sky. Crack! thunder was heard in the sky before lightning flashed and hit the ground. Derpy then felt a drop of rain on her muzzle and on her back. She dashed under a sycamore tree just before it began to pour. Looking around Derpy soon realized that she had gotten lost.
