Thank you all for the comments. A few corrections have been made. Like I said, I put it together rather quickly and all the editing I did was a during a single run through and I obvious missed a few things

4182059 I haven't; however, I certainly have a lot of down time at the station now so I'll check into it. The character was actually inspired by my Lieutenant, and while the undertone of the story is sad, the phrase "I can take care of that" is actually pretty funny coming from him since all he ever does is delegate work to somebody else. He's a nice guy and had his wife come by the station the other day. Our conversation got a bit heavy when I asked him what he thought it would be like to not have her around anymore (we'd a run a bad cardiac arrest and it got us all thinking). He said everything good in his life would be gone, more or less, I'm paraphrasing there. So I adapted our conversation to the story and this is what I got.
and lieutenant Burton is the sexiest and most beautiful man that I ever seen and he makes me want to make sweet love to him

And apparently I'm in love with my Lieutenant. I'd take the comment down; but, to be honest, he is about a sexy hunk of man. I'll just have to be careful about leaving the old tablet unlocked in the future.
Oh my, this was great. Very mysterious, but it worked well. The ending was powerful and just...great. That's all I can say.

I had never intended this to be more than a one-shot project; however, without saying too much on the matter, I suppose it would be nice to know where it was that the mysterious drifter had disappeared to...Also, per some prior comments, I did go out yesterday and buy a copy of Holes and a couple or things happened. First and foremost, I woke up this morning at the station with a bunch of red dots drawn on my face. Apparently, I'm going through puberty again since the book seems to be targeted to a younger audience. Two, I now completely understand and agree with y'all that my character shares a lot of similarities to "Sam", and the phrase "I can fix that" is almost frighteningly uncanny. I truly have not read the book before and the similarities found between it and this story are perhaps one of the most surprising coincidences that I've ever noticed. Three, since I based my character on my Lieutenant, he now has a new nickname, "Slammin' Sam", and while he doesn't quite get it yet, I've managed to get just about everybody at the station to call him that
Wow this story was so sad but that ending made me feel so mucb beter. The way you wrote AJ wss perfect. Im a sucker for human and AJ stories and you got her character so well. Really good stuff kinda sad it didnt get much views since it was very touching.
