Strife

T

Writing a letter couldn't be any harder for Twilight Sparkle. Not just because the content was difficult and emotionally painful, but she was rapidly losing blood.

During a ravaging war, she learns the most important lesson on Friendship and she writes her last letter to Celestia.

OH CELESTIA
They better up in heaven or some shit, because seriously, I can't deal with sad stories. They make me go insane.

Sincerely, DreZ-

while the faces of the those who fight in war change each time, the ugliness of and the harsh reality of war brings never changes.

holy shit...this seriously brought me milliseconds from shedding manly tears...god I can only imagine what Celestia would like like when she read through it.

I was okay until I read about Rarity's death. Heroic sacrifices get me every time... :raritycry:

good job it brought a ger tears near breaking from me eye an thats hard to do considerin i didn't cry for my lil dashie.:fluttershysad:

When I read the description, I was reminded of this song.
:fluttershysad:So beautiful. Almost made me cry manly tears.
:fluttercry: Dangit, you did!

I'm not sure the point of this fic. You killed off one character in every paragraph for five paragraphs, did a rather cliche "final letter" format, and didn't seem to have an agenda beyond murdering the mane cast and leaving a sour taste in the reader's mouth. No hope for the future, and no, there's no lesson to learn here, despite what you may have written. This was just dark gratuity, and did not bring anything new to the table.

May you be chewed on by timber wolves!

though the players names, faces, and methods change. a grim death await all who stay on the field.

I completely agree. It is, however, decently written on the technical point.

380809So, you just fail to see the point. "New Content", (if thats what your looking for go somewhere else), may not always be the best. If you place values and morals ahead of something new, you might find that one story can live on for generations to come.

Manly tears were bled a tiny bit, selfless sacrifices always seem to get to me.
I enjoyed this short read, thank you for making it!

I liked the idea, but it read like one of Wikipedia's plot summaries.

So it was :fluttercry:, :rainbowhuh:, :pinkiesad2:, :applejackunsure:, :raritydespair:, and :twilightoops:. I see what you did there.:rainbowlaugh: But in all seriousness, this made me tear up a bit. It's a shame she didn't get to finish her name!:fluttershysad: A lesson was actually learned despite what others are saying.

What's the point of any story? To write of course!

Anyway, notice how each of the mane six die (Twilight excluded). They died because they helped their friends via each individual Element. Applejack would really be the exception, but I couldn't think of how Honesty would get you killed while benefiting your friends without it being too close to Loyalty. My excuse here: an illness, something not true to her body, killed her (silly workaround).

But if you must have a point, read in between the lines. Notice how "True Friendship" is mentioned often. This is a direct counter to the fleeting relationships we see in modern society. Many people believe that just because you know someone's name, you're sudden friends. This story was to show what real friendship is ... to help each other in hard situations, even if it requires a sacrifice of your own (even in smaller circumstances).

Furthermore, notice how Twilight signed the letter. Normally it ends with "Your faithful student". Not this time, she learned the most important lesson on Friendship. She 'Graduated' so to speak.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for their comments. Good or bad, it still means you read it, and I am humbled that my words are worth your time.

Rest in peace....... My grandchild...... Rest easily knowing that you can be with your friends once more........... Go now...... And cross this new divide....... :pinkiesad2::fluttershysad::fluttercry::raritydespair::raritycry:

A wonderful piece of work sir. I congratulate you on being able to write something as this. Books like this only remind us of what the world truly is. If the world were more like Equestria, peaceful, prosperous and harmonic there would be no war..... There would be no strife........ and there would only......... be......... Friendship.......

Rarity ..... that was ......:twilightoops:

Im new to this place and this is the first thing i read here.
May is say this is one of the few things that has gotten an emotional response from me.
Well done..... Well done... :fluttercry::raritycry:
