TheCacophonousMuse

E

The Cutie Mark Crusaders and their class move on to high school! Well, middle school, but it's in the same building, so it counts, right? Tag along for the ride as fillies fight, colts fall in love, and everyone's favorite group of foals grows up.
Told from the perspective of various ponies; features the ponies and backstories of a few of my favorite works, both here and on tumblr.

Edit: [Romance] tag added for general shipping.

You gonna ship Twistweight and Applesqueak? :trixieshiftright:

4098074
Well, maybe you'll have to read it to find out :moustache:

To be honest, I have a few vague ideas of where I'm going, but a lot of it isn't very concrete yet. So the answer is... I have no idea. :pinkiecrazy:

I always love the headcanon of Bulk Biceps being related to Featherweight. I once read a story where Featherweight was mute, and I really liked that idea, too. I... I have no idea why that came up just now...

Anywho, despite my dubiousness about ponies having phones, this is starting out to be cute and fun. Love me some schoolyard romance. :ajsmug:

4098082 Dangit! Just finished reading both chapters...I NEEED my shipments. :pinkiecrazy:

4098122
Well, thanks! I figure if ponies have arcade game consoles by now, then they've probably got phones, too. They've probably figured out a better way to dial them than with their hooves, though... :twilightsheepish: I guess I was too lazy to figure out a way around that lol

4104277
You'd think that they'd develop a more efficient system; having a 3x4 grid of hoof sized buttons seems like a waste of space. Sorry if I nerd out a little, but...

I'm inclined to think they use a binary system. Essentially, there are two buttons on the phone rather than the standard 12 (0-9, *, and #). These two buttons are used in various sequences to achieve different numbers/letters. This is somewhat supported by the fact that in s2 e24, Ponyville Confidential, we see ponies typing on 2 button typewriters.

Anywho... :twilightsheepish:

I like Silver Spoon finally giving Diamon Tiara the talking to she deserves, even if it did kinda come out of nowhere.

4201260

Yeah, to be honest I was gonna put this later and then I sort of bumped it up because I figured I'd forget what I was going to do with these two if I waited... I'm not exactly the most organized :derpytongue2:

i like it! why is this the only apple bloom::applecry:i want a happy one:raritycry:

I think next (or soon, anyway) you should do a Silver Spoon chapter. You know, kind of explore what was going through her mind when she said all that stuff to Diamond. I dunno.

4203078

As much as I love the cutie mark crusaders... you have to admit, Twilight is best emote pony.

4203566

That will probably happen pretty soon, if only because Silver Spoon is one of the few characters that I actually have a plan for lol... :twilightsheepish:

I demand Sillversqueak. :rainbowwild: And maybe Buttonbelle. If that's okay with you. . .eep! :fluttershyouch:

4401653

Yeah I've gotten a tad behind on updating, haven't I? Now that summer's here, I should theoretically have more time to write. However, I've also lost my biggest motivator ("I've got a huge paper due tomorrow? Let's write some more pony to procrastinate!")

Okay, I swear I'll update one of these days. Soon hopefully.

And about that shipping... we'll see :ajsmug:

4401703 And Twistweight! Don't forget about sweet sweet twistweight. . .:scootangel:

YAY, SWEETIE BELLE MADE THE TEAM :D

this chapter did not sucked because i like it

Your story is added to the Equestrian High. The junior high folder.

This didn't suck, I liked it! Maybe this time, The CMC can pull off something amazing! I suspect that for their first show, Hasbro made Scoots's voice sound worse that actually is for singing.

4424129

Actually funny story about that...
I've heard an interview with Maddy Peters (who voices Scootaloo) in which she says she had to rerecord that song like 40 times because, while she had been told to make the song bad, she hadn't been told *how* bad. Apparently she just kept doing takes and the directors were just like "make it worse" every time :rainbowlaugh:

Glad to hear you enjoyed this, though :twilightsheepish:

4426121

Bit of a shame though, since she is the most audible voice in Hearts Strong as Horses, we know she has a good singing voice, shame we'll probably never hear a decent version of We Are The Cutie Mark Crusaders, or The CMC Talent Show Song. Oh well. For the trio doing things that weren't their specialities, they didn't actually do that bad. They are pretty versatile, no wonder they get lots of different cutie marks, even if most of them are in the same gist.

4422895
D'aww, thanks

Still, the next chapter should be better :twilightsheepish:

4422891

Just out of curiosity, for A Capella would you consider it a "team"? Usually I've heard the term "group" or "ensemble" used... idk. Sorry for my OCD word choice fits, I'm actually an editor who sometimes pretends to write :derpytongue2:

4426131
Yeah... while I may not have been impressed with Scoot's singing, I was pretty damn impressed with that musical backing track, which she "wrote." That guitar solo was actually decent... maybe that's Scoot's special talent :derpyderp1:

4426143

Who knows, they have had plenty of potential talents over the years, while Sweetie may be good singer, maybe Scoots could be the music writer while Apple Bloom builds the set, and just to get their sisters involved, Applejack caters to the concert with her apple products and Rarity makes the costumes.

4426139 I think a group cause I saw Pitch Perfect like 10 times.

4426143 And Scootaloo should do scooter tricks

4426180 I think I might make a mlp and Pitch Perfect crossover soon

This was a fine chapter. Not terrible, but good.

:facehoof: I'm not the brightest sometimes lol

But eh, maybe it's just because Sweetie Belle is one of my favorite characters and I didn't really feel like I was doing her justice. But it felt forced and uncharacterized to me. Whatever lol.

4428015 Just reaized that you said middle school in this chapter, while on the long description it says high school. :twilightsheepish::twistnerd:

At that moment the bell rang, and Featherweight and Snails finished shoving the last of their books into their lockers and ran to catch up with Pipsqueak, who was walking to class with Snails. They hurried into the English room and found four seats together near the middle of the room. --- may want to check and make sure the names are right.

At that moment, a stallion entered the room. He had a dark brown coat with a book on his flank, and his trot had a distinctive bounce to it; to Featherweight, he seemed a good deal more energetic than he ought to be. --- coat and a book on his flank--and his trot

the place that authority has in such an egalitarian society such as our own. -- redundant, nix the first "Such"

And with that, the usual flood for the exit commenced. -- since it's the first day at a new version of school, it may be "soon-to-be-usual"

---- Now the more opinionated stuff.

I like the personality you have developed. Within its universe I think it's fitting. I have various conflicting preferences (I never felt the muscle pony was related to Featherweight, for example, but those have nothing to do with another person's fanon), but the universe you've made seems consistent. Keep an eye on the detail and keep writing from the heart. ;)

Do. Not. Next. Time.

That isn't to say stop the story, that is to say, if you have qualms with quality, take time to edit or rewrite. It doesn't have to be now, but at some point; write it so that you are confident in this piece like the rest. Don't live in regret that "that one first Sweetie Belle chapter seemed to weaken the story." You have as much time as you need, but don't consider the chapter done just because it's published.

4470466
Well, as I mentioned in the author's note, this isn't actually a story. This is just a writing exercise for me. I really don't care if it's of quality or not, and I'm not taking much time to look over it or edit anything. It's really just to keep me motivated and writing. I think I mention in the authors note at the end of the first chapter that this is "a writing exercise, so it isn't necessarily the most plot-driven story. This also means that I'm not bothering to edit this and just posting it verbatim. Read at your own risk." But yeh.

However, thanks for taking the time to point out this stuff 4470442. I'll go back and edit this stuff in. This isn't really meant to be for anyone to read, I just posted it in case some people wanted to read it, so I'm not too fussed about the editing, but since you've graciously taken the time to point this stuff out, I'll go back and do that stuff.

I feel like this is overly-repetitive while actually saying nothing, because I'm tired and I'm in the middle of finals lol :twilightsheepish:

I apologize profusely for any lack of sense in this comment.

WOW! We're going this route, are we?

Okay!

This should get pretty interesting. Buckle up everyone, hopefully the comments section won't get too bumpy. I'm cool with trans stuff, it's just that it can have a tendency to attract extremist sjw's.

Muse, if this DOES happen, please don't let it affect your writing. Please don't let conflict rob us of your amazing plot and character ideas. This has all been fantastic so far.

I thought Sweetie Belle was a Soprano...?

5737784

Honestly we don't have much to go on from the show, since it's not really specified at all. In terms of voice actors, it's even more complicated, since she's had multiple singing voices. In "Hush Now, Quiet Now" she was pretty clearly an alto, sung by Michelle Creber. However, in her most recent song, where she's actually sung by Claire Corlett, it's a little more fuzzy, but she sounds pretty much like an alto to me. It doesn't make a huge difference in the context of anything, especially since I haven't really been actively working on this fic, but for the sake of argument, here's Hearts Strong as Horses with Sweetie Belle's vocal emphasized:

. You make the call.
