Chapter 27 - The calm before

"So this is it? All that propaganda about supporting the Guard and all I've done for five days is stand before a bunch of stained glass windows."

"Face it, for you it was a dang prison sentence regardless." said Charger

"You get used to it." said Crescent

"No you don't." said Charger

The three stood Guard before a hallway, Spirit figuring that three to Guard a door was too much, and David suggesting a hallway instead. It was a bit more traveled than the door, so at least they could see some random high class Pony, another Guard patrol, or whomever decided to pass through to entertain them, even if it was just following them with their eyes.

"Why'd you join here?" asked Starlight

"Flyboy here talked me into it." said Charger

"I thought we were over this!" said Crescent

"I'm still angry about it!" said Charger sharply

"Whatever." said Starlight as she straightened up for a passing Pony, "Well i guess it isn't that bad."

"Pardon?" asked Crescent

"I was homeless, shunned, and for awhile a wanted criminal! Now look! I'm serving in the Royal Guard in Canterlot, even further the palace!"

"Life can work like that!" said Charger

"If my Mother could see me now." she said

"What happened to her?" asked Crescent

"I don't know. I came home from school one day and she was gone. I tried to get help, but after a few months nothing came up and I was forced to go on my own."

"No other family?" asked Charger

"Sadly no. *sigh* I really wish I knew what happened to her."

Crescent and Charger looked to each other feeling for a little bit. They wanted to comfort her in anyway they could, but didn't exactly know what to say and kept silence. Starlight remembered back to the few images she had of her mom before noticing the ground.

"Hey, is lt getting darker?"

The three looked behind them to see dark clouds rolling in. While this was nothing new to them, there were no Pegasus leading it.

"What the?" asked Charger

Elsewhere in the palace, Flower signed out his name with Sergeant David as Spirit walked up just as the clouds blocked out the sun.

"I don't remember the Pegasus having a rainstorm for this week." said Spirit

"I know. Neither did I!"

"It rolled out of Everfree and was hidden behind some mountains before it jumped on Canterlot. Some lazy Pegasus decided it was better to use this to their advantage and skip a medium shower next week." said David, not taking his eyes off the paper

"And how do you know Sergeant?" asked Spirit

"I'm a Pegasus!" said David, "Besides, it says so here in the paper."

He lowered the newspaper and showed them the article. Sure enough it was true, and had caused a stir amongst the other ponies of Canterlot.

"Pony's told to shut their windows and prepare for the worst." said Flower reading the paper

"Princess Celestia and Princess Luna urge people to stay calm in case of the worst." said Spirit

"Which is exactly why we're pulling double duty tonight!" came a voice that made Spirit and Flower Jump.

"What?" asked a shocked David

"You heard me Sergeant. All Guards are to be on alert and ready until the storm passes. We clear?" asked Shadow

"Yes Ma'am!" said the three

"When Guards come to sign out for their duties, tell them to head straight back. If they don't like it, report them."

"Can do!" said David

As Shadow walked away David opened a drawer in his desk and used his wing to slap some papers on it. Flower put down the pen and walked back to his post his head hung low out of not wanting to do this.

"What's all this got to do with the storm anyway?" asked Spirit

"It got to do with we don't know where this is going to go, we're just going to go with the flow."

"You mean the storm?" asked Spirit

"Yeah but then I couldn't use the saying." said David

"Well then, I'm going to go inform the rest. See you later David

"A-dee-os Spirit."

"Adios!" corrected the Lieutenant as he walked off

As David flipped through the paper to search for another article to read, a set of evil white eyes stared down at him from above ready to attack as the storm outside worsened
