Autumnschild

Words are coming.

E

Scarlet Letters is a lot of things. A Mare. A pegasus. A former member of the guard. And now, a librarian. She's looking forward to the post-war peace and prosperity that's been promised.

Now if only she could get some sleep.

Can't wait to see where this goes. :pinkiehappy:

Cool, possible birthdayverse backstory!

Just got around to reading this, I love the setting of the Birthday verse so I'm always happy to see more of it. Eagerly waiting to see where this goes.

Any relation to The Librarian movie series?

3960647

Until you mentioned it, I had never heard of it. I'll have to check it out once my story here is completed

So far, so good.

4007420
I don't think they've ever been confirmed not to be either, though.

I'm liking this little story.

Although I am biased about that, so...

4007778

Oh god, it strikes me that I never credited you as the pre-reader! I will fix that tonight. :twilightsheepish:

4007420

I love your avatar and username combo. Also, the guard forces in this story are an equal opportunity employer.

I love that ending.
Nice chapter even if I'm still not sure what's going on it certainly is a nice slice of life story so far.

4008869

Glad you like it. Really this should have been one chapter, a prologue, but I am experimenting with short chapters. Don't think I've mastered the pacing yet.

But the action picks up in the next chapter for sure!

4007863

It happens, all good though.

I'm not going to poke you for chapter 3, BUT... When chapter 3 coming? :pinkiehappy:

4009052

How's your tomorrow looking?

Hah, loved that ending :rainbowlaugh:

4013449

Oops. I sent it just now. :twilightoops:

Literally it went out as I got the email notification saying you said 'no'. So you know... my bad. Get to it whenever you can, I'll start working on chapter 4

What she assumed was a uniform sootiness to his coat and mane revealed a Mauve coat with a tousled blonde mane.

Wait...

BY CELESTIA'S BEARD! How did I miss this in the prereading.

I see now, what you did here. And I approve.

4028631

It's because I didn't like the original description after rereading it and changed it! Glad you approve, though. :yay:

“Oh! I’m Chim Chimalee,”

I see what you did there...

As for responses… Well I’m working on a spell for that. Hopefully they’ll pop up where you’d expect them too.

Since Spike is the only baseline Twilight has to work with when it comes to receiving magic faxes, I certainly hope Scarlet does not end up having to belch Twilight's correspondence out of her throat.

I have to admit, I am significantly more excited about writing what happens when they appear than I have any right to be. :pinkiecrazy:

To get the unpleasant out of the way first:

Whether it was an unconscious attempt to look bigger to scare away a predator, or an overly optimistic mating display, was completely lost on both ponies.

I believe that you meant subconscious, not knocked out.
That said, great job so far! Let me know if you are in need of another pre- reader or an editor, I would be glad to help!

4035158

Sweet cuppin' cakes, you're right! Thanks for spotting that.

:pinkiehappy:

So far so good. A hundred years, huh, Twilight. She really shouldn't arrive so unannounced... Does she do that to every new librarian? You're just torturing that poor pegasus by naming her 'Scarlet Letters'...

4155270

I am a bad man, for certain. I need to add a new chapter here this week or next. Probably next.

4155878
It's next.
#justsaying

4215389

And I am still a bad man. :trollestia:

Sorry for the delay in stories this week, working on a script for the comic of Princess Twilight Sparkle's 500th birthday. My blog has a few more details.

But I promise you satisfaction before a fortnight passes!

This is cute story, you deserve a thumb and a fave.

4251674

Thanks! New chapter coming tonight or tomorrow.

Still a charming little story but this chapter does read like it ended smack in the middle of itself for no reason at all, i know you said you're experimenting with shorter chapters but this one feels very jarring. Like if you turn a page in a book and the other side is just blank from a printing error or something.

4289251

Thanks for the feedback! I'm experimenting with soft cliff hangers, the kind they usually use in chapter books. But seeing as you can't just 'turn the page' since the next chapter isn't live yet, I can see how it would be jarring. Depending on the feedback, if it looks like this method sucks, then I'll go back to actually ending the chapters at the end of a scene.

Destroy them.
Book destruction is a sin of the highest caliber.

Peering down into the nook, like a hawk watching rabbits at play, she noticed three fillies sitting at a small table. Three fillies with a book and a small stack of torn pages between them on said small table. Three fillies who were just now, right before her very eyes, ripping another page out of one her library books.

Welp they're fucked.

Some ponies deserve a chewing out. She probably also to get a hold of some unicorn with a repair spell or she may have real difficulty with stupid foals ripping pages out of books.

4289406 yes. I was in physical pain reading this scene. :fluttershbad::twilightangry2:

KILL.
:flutterrage:

In all seriousness... the Cutie Mark Crusaders' spiritual successors seem to be riding again. :scootangel::applecry::unsuresweetie:

those, those horrible horrible beings ruining a book how could they what evil has possesed them that they could be so cruel as to destroy a BOOK
ms.letters you have my SUGGESTION to promptly execute them, even if they are fillies

Weeeeeell, today's episode was awkward in the context of this story. :trollestia:

Not worried about it though, hence the AU tag. It'll all get wrung out in the laundry.

Lee sounds like he may be related to Cheerilee and Pinkie. I look forward to the nigh inevitable Marry Poppins musical reference.

I have found another story!

Self-defenestration is the better part of valor.

I love it.

Sometimes, it's best to just let the pony who's been making tea for centuries make the tea.

It was the Princess. She was reaching across the table. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Scarlet. I’m Twilight, if you please. I like to keep things informal between us librarians.”

“Just between you and me?” Scarlet looked left, and then right before leaning closer to Twilight, who also leaned forward to hear what the other mare had to offer. “I think the ponies in this town are crazy.”

Bwhahahahaha!

Hmn, so reading between the lines, it sounds like around a hundred years into Twilight's time as a princess they had a war with the changelings that involved Chrysalis' death.

So, to encourage you to get out there and make some new friends, I’m giving you an assignment.

Hahaha. Hey, it's worked for 100% of the Ponyville librarians we know about.

But I digress. Don’t bother with the mail to send your reports, just use the magical quill I left with this letter whenever you write me, and then burn the letters. Yes, you read that right, burn them after you write them. Trust me, I’ll get them.

Neat.

It looks like the first friend has arrived! :pinkiehappy:

The stallion winced and two sooty wings, previously unnoticed by the shrieking mare, shot out of his sides. Whether it was an subconscious attempt to look bigger to scare away a predator, or an overly optimistic mating display, was completely lost on both ponies.

Heh.

Shipping senses tingling...

Yeah, no. She shook her head, disappointed in her own wandering eyes, and hussled into the kitchen for a right proper breakfast.

Wait, never mind, false alarm.

Dang, Scarlet needs to make some friends just as much as Twilight did.

She smiled at the stallion and stood a bit taller. A bit straighter. “Remember to knock next time, okay? Maybe we can talk and get to know each other. I’ll be sure to have a fresh cup of tea ready for you.”

Progress!

He kept watching her as he walked forward and waved a wing at her. “See ya later, Ms. LettOOF—” he blurted out as he walked into the wall next to the library’s front door.

Smooooth.

Three fillies, it's always three fillies! There's something about that number...

And now I'm pretty sure I'm actually caught up. It's been a lot of fun getting here.

A combat veteran with a friendship assignment from Princess Twilight? Hell yeah I'm favoriting this story!

Nice to see this being updated again

Ooh, that went dark fast. Personally I agree with Scarlet, but she definitely could use more tact. All in all, she gave them multiple warnings, she just got unlucky with who she talked to.

Actually I totally get this... and am on Scarlet's side on this... I detest the damage of library books. Okay yeah she could have rephrased it nicer, but she could have hardly known and bloody hell, she WAS in the war unlike that passer by.
