Twilight Sparkle learns of a hidden magic with a source that is located in Ghastly Gorge. Since Spike is away in Canterlot, she must go to the gorge alone to investigate the source. She is not prepared for what she finds, and is severely injured as a result. Rainbow Dash finds her in time and due to certain circumstances, takes it upon herself to make sure Twilight recovers fully.
Now that the hidden magic has been unlocked, it proceeds to shake the very foundation on which Ponykind has relied for centuries.

Very interesting. I really want to know more about that crystal. Hopefully Twi's ok, and her magical ability doesn't suffer.

Really? I mean seriously? You don't need to be the element of loyalty to now that YOU DO NOT LEAVE THAT HOSPITAL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Find Spike and send letter? Fine. Gather rest of friends? Probably. Go home and take a nap? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO! I understand Celestia waiting until the next day, but I don't give a damn how late it is; the rest of the M6 NEED to know and Dash NEEDS to be there for Twi. All of them do.
Aside from that, interesting start. Writing pretty OK but could use a bit of touching up. found a couple awkward sentences.
