The tale of the first Hearth's Warming Eve is one steeped in tradition, celebration, and myth. However, any shrewd historian understands that folk stories can change dramatically over time. Details are shifted around, names and locations change and evolve with the language, some parts are even forgotten or lost. When a group of modern-day Equestrians unearth something mysterious in the ice, they soon learn the truth of their Kingdom's founding, from a unicorn who witnessed it directly.
