PTR-RainbowDash

The official Rainbow Dash of the PonyTown Roleplay Region

T

If Equestria was brought up to modern times, how would things be? How does one attempt to establish a nation-wide infrastructure without being driven mad by the bureaucracy of modern government? Why do I have to pay $400 just to ride in an ambulance? If any of these questions have tickled your curiosity, then perhaps you should take a gander at this story series. While remaining true to modern emergency medical care standards this story brings forth the background characters and (hopefully) provides some much needed comic relief in these troubled times. While this description may appear serious, I, the author, assure you that the story is anything but serious.

Ponyville Volunteer Ambulance corps of the 3rd battalion is run by newly appointed Director of Operations, Starshine. Join this rather extravagant paramedic as she deals with the chaos of running an ambulance service, going on calls, avoiding Princess Celestia, and trying to have a social life!

To assist readers in understanding some of the terms in the story, a glossary is included.

NEW: Battalion and station listings has been included after the glossary.

:trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia: Need I say more?

I love the way this story is turning out. Can't wait for more! :rainbowkiss:
Haha oh that Trollestia :trollestia:

Now that's more like it!
Excellent story so far mate. Hoping for more!
Trollestia no longer cares about Twilight :trollestia: I knew this day would come.

Oh... there will be more... bwahahaha!

Hehe, well anyways, thank you very much for your input!

Let's start with the bad news. I was a bit disappointed that the world of the story brings in so much human tech. You're a very good writer, and I had hoped for more of a magic tech blend. There's so much opportunity for finding Equestrian solutions or reasoning to EMS situations. For example, why have a deisel-powered ground ambulance when you have already flying pegasi-pulled chariots? Ponies already have medievac capability. What makes sense or exists in our world has no guarantee that ponies would develop the same thing.

But besides that VERY minor point, I love the story. You're a great writer, and I'm really looking forward to more chapters. You've got good humor (who doesn't love some innocent Trollestia?), excellent knowledge of the subject, a good foundation for characters, and I'm interested in seeing how you shape your world.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much for the feedback!
I suppose I could have added more magic into the whole ordeal but part of the objective of the story was to share my passion of emergency medical services, as it is, with others. Regardless, I may design and write up an EMS system for Equestria without so much human technology because of your comment. I actually thought about it last night and I can still see the need for some more advanced technology either way (even magic has its limits after all. And while healing a broken bone (or at least stabilizing it) or creating an airway would be possible to do with magic, I personally wouldn't want to devote part of my magically ability to just constantly monitoring vitals.)

Honestly I'm also surprised at the lack of negative feedback in general. I expected someone to comment with something like "A pegasus that can do magic!? wtf is this." at some point. (That will be explained in the future, by the way ^.~)

But anyways, thank you for your feedback. If you have any stories I'll be sure to check them out ^^

Not bad so far, I agree on the earlier point that less human tech would be good. Also epi 1:1 in an epi pen is not the same as IV epi 1:10 used in cardiac arrest(minor point, but I'd hate to see this turn into the next "Trauma")

hehe, Trauma. But no, I know they're different, it was meant to show how Starshine may bend rules or even break them... or something like that.. honestly I'm just about to head to bed. Just wanted to reply before I forgot.

Thanks for reading!

To me, there are only three legitimate types of heroes in the world.
Astronauts,
Firefighters,
and Paramedics.

Of the three, the hardest working, the most long-suffering must be the paramedics. It can't be an easy life; nopony wants to see them, but everypony knows that if something happens, their only hope is them. Troublesome patients, difficult runs, wanting always to help but sometimes not being able to; always unappreciated until the worst happens, and sometimes not even then.

Great concept, Medic Starshine. I look forward to more of this. Plus, Trollestia. Sweet.

Hehe, thank you for your comment. Being a medic, ain't all that bad, and I wouldn't say the public doesn't like to see ambulances, but I would agree that they are under-appreciated for all they do, especially volunteers. Some of my friends had a shift from 6 AM to noon. The driver left around 7:30 PM and the medic just spent the night at the base and didn't get the paperwork done until around midnight. They were in service until about 5:30 PM because the agency kept getting calls and they kept on accepting the jobs even though they were supposed to be off duty. It's stuff like that that the public doesn't know about and therefore doesn't appreciate.

But anyways, thanks again for reading and commenting, I heavily appreciate any and all feedback.

27627 I fully agree.

About the story: I liked it! The only thing I would change would be to start from some less life-threatening conditions and gradually increasing the number of new acronyms I had to go through. I do not want you to misunderstand me - those acronyms are absolutely necessary as they add authenticity to the story. My only complaint is that you could introduce them a bit more gradually.

In short - MOAR :).

To be completely honest, I took the intense start approach because I thought this story had no chance in hell of being even remotely popular. :rainbowderp:

Hehe thanks for readin'! x3

Yuppieeee!!! A new chapter! I thought you've forgotten about us.... MOAR, MOAR I say!

The only thing I don't get was why did Celestia have a word with Starshine about Twilight? What did Starshine do?

184062

From chapter 3 A Forgotten Home
"Starshine wouldn’t have this. She’s not disabled. She’s not some lab rat to be experimented on! Starshine grabbed the unicorn’s hoof, twisting around and pushing it away as she withdrew her left hoof and got ready to land a hoof-full of hurt on the offending unicorn. Her hoof was about to make contact with the Twilight’s face when she realized what she was doing. Her hoof slowly lowered as she calmed herself and let go of Twilight. Without looking at Twilight again she made her way to the back door. “I hope your burns heal well.” She said, her voice neutral as she opened the door and hopped out, holding the door open for Twilight, still avoiding eye contact. Once the unicorn was out, Starshine closed the door, walked around to the front, hopped in, and drove off without another word."
Celestia was trolling a bit there, since Starshine didn't actually do all that much to Twilight, but it is also meant to push Starshine to make up with Twilight and accept Twilight's help... I guess... Honestly I wrote that half of Nightmare Night part one like a month or two ago.

I get it now , thank you!
ps. MOAR :).

Glad to see im not the only medical pony out there , nice story to wish i was in a story like this

184072 - do you have any ETA for the next chapter? :fluttershysad:

Interesting. Nice to see another medical brony. I'm a volunteer EMT for a small town andnI can appreciate how hard it is. When I started, my shift was from 1900 to 0200. To make maters worse, I was actually assaulted once and I live in a small and very safe town!

Keep up the good work!

Sounds like a hell of a night, getting assaulted and all. Statistically speaking, EMS is actually more dangerous than police or fire service.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been paying much attention to notifications and such, nor this story.
