Fluttershy is concerned that Discord is too antisocial and insists that he spend time with her friends in an attempt to connect with them and actually become friends. Discord reluctantly agrees.

Thanks for the praise. If you'd care to elaborate on why you like it, I'd appreciate any more comments or criticisms.

My Discord!!! I love this fic. It is well written, well detailed, and overall entertaining. Your grasp on Discord's character is fantastic!!! A being of pure chaos like Discord having these talks and enjoying learning something new is great. Since I believe he does want to learn new things. I also like to see his slow understanding of the pony way since it is so orderly and pattern like which he is not. Since I too take a while to understand things like this about societies.

But the thing I like the most is not only Discord. It is the effects of his conversations with the Ponies. How it slowly opens their own minds. Makes them break from their normal thinking and how society has gotten them to think. Ultimately proven by the symbol of pony society their cutie marks slowly fading as they decide to finally question the one thing that ponies seem to blindly go for. Their "destiny".

It also helps you that Discord reminds me of how I've asked and talked to many people about things I don't understand and how I philosophy. So I feel very connected to this story. Still wish there was a Discord emote. This will do. :moustache:

Heck have a few more!! :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

I can only imagine how this would be brought up.
Fluttershy: Discord?! What did you do to Applejack?
Discord: I only took your advice and tried to make friends with her.
Fluttershy: Her cutie mark is fading away!
Discord: Oh would you look at that! I wonder how that happened. *chuckle*
Fluttershy: What did you do?!
Discord: Nothing, nothing I assure you... I only had a small debate with her, as well as offered her an easier way to run her farm.
Fluttershy: And that's all you did? You didn't cast any spells on her.
Discord: If anything, the only spells I casted were aimed at the trees and only to help... if Applejack hadn't been a stickler and asked me to stop.
Fluttershy: Okay... but if I find out that you're lying to me!
Discord: Now why would I do that? *halo above his head*

Yeah... that sounds about right.

It's very gratifying to know you like my take on Discord. I've always lamented how he didn't get more time to just talk and really get under the ponies skin. As a quasi-reformed villain, there are just so many new opportunities for him to be an antagonist without being an enemy.

As for Discord's approach to understanding ponies and broadening their own views, I don't want to give the impression that he's being either entirely earnest or devious. He's simply being himself and trying to just have fun, whether or not it comes at the expense of his "friends."

I'm very pleased to know that you can relate to Discord as I've written him. I actually agree with the idea that art is a kind of conversation, so it's nice when what I'm writing speaks to the reader and strikes a cord with him or her.

By posting in this comment section of this story, you have agreed to allow any content of said post to be blatantly stolen for use in the story.

Just kidding, but there will be a scene in which Fluttershy discovers what's been happening. I have no idea how long it will take me to get there, hahah. Glad you're enjoying the story!

You have a very vast vocabulary. All your words kinda confused me, but I understood the situation. Please continue.

This is eery. It's like there teaching him how to be a better .... I'm going to go with thing ... and yet their own minds are being twisted it the process. It is both disturbing, yet fascinating. At this rate he might just end up having to fix this himself because the rest will have lost there passions for their, dare I say it, destiny(hate that word)

I just want to tell you you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? :pinkiehappy:

Yay a new chapter. It is as fantastic as ever. Great writing, fantastic grammar and not a single spelling eror in sight. Also Most of all the fantastic story is as great as ever. The plot is coming out nicely and I oh so do like watching people ... err... ponies question their thoughts. Discord is doing a great job.

I know he is neither trying to be helpful, interested or malicious to the ponies he have talked to. Getting a bit of interest out of his musing about their destinies at most. I know his main reason is cause Flutters asked. Still fun to watch the Spirit of Disharmony still spread it without even meaning too.

Though this little sour moment made me the happiest cause it reminds me so much of how I can get with people. I can oddly relate to this. Well not oddly I'm that loner that has a few friends and is a bit of a jerk. So I relate to Discord oh so well. Especially in this story.

So you get some mustaches. :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

Oh god yes another chapter. It is fantastic!!

Discord you beautiful and magnificent bastard you!! You may not be trying to send such conflict and internal disharmony within these ponies. But god damn do I love watching and hearing moral conflicts and moral grey areas.

I just.. Just :moustache:. All of my :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

Damn I need to see how this ends... So bad... Ya got me good...
Lots and lots of psychobabble, but Discord seems to be getting something out of it. Both positively and negatively...

Tell, me honestly, are you trying to teach your readers something?

Interesting. And Discord is apparently ruining things somewhat unintentionally this time? Very interesting. It was a good talk about value and money though, the system always seems odd when you get down to the basic elements.

Ok, I take it back. Discord seems to be doing it on purpose. He's just donning the nihilist hat by now.

Which seems in character. Everything he says makes some sense, though I have to say I really hope for a turn-around at some point, because, well, the effect he has on the ponies is terrible. And I can't help but sit here, my thoughts just screaming the simple and cliched :things have meaning 'cause we choose to give it to them."

Damn, Discord is back to his own antics and it is as painful to read as it is well-written. He may not be breaking people's minds by force or playing around with gravity and checker patterns, but this is just like the labyrinth. Man, I suddenly remember why he was a villain, what an ass. Very in character, but vile, simply vile. Though it seems that he has a little empathy this time.

I'm really interested in how this will get turned around. The ponies all have weaknesses and doubts that he skillfully exploits here, so I'm curious to see how they will get out of their depression here. Debating like "Mane Six team vs Discord"? Celestia cutting right through all his crap? Or will he fix it himself?

If you do this right, it will feel like an actual episode of the show. No pressure :raritywink:

Oh, I hate that "altruism is actually self-serving". That is the kind of argument that is impossible to argue with, because that question always lead to the basic worldview an individual has.

What Discord completely fails to acknowledge is that he is using people because his pleasure very often comes from causing pain. Like what he does here. He is a bully. He claims in his head that he is pointing things out, but it is obvious from words like "strategy" and "losing control" that he has a specific, subversive goal in each conversation. Vile is what it is, though he seems to grow a little.

And it's a load of manure that she was her happiness depended on "the power to make others happy". It annoys me to no end when he interrupts Pinkie before she manages to say that she only felt sad for a short while.

This is one of the more unpleasant, but well-written, fics I've seen in a while. Despite it being like that, I will have to follow it, because I need that turn-around. And because it is a good read.

Happy writing.

Happy as ever to hear from you, Spite. Be careful though, or you may run out of mustaches.

4489606
Pleased as punch that you're enjoying it. Changing is the cornerstone of chaos, the question is, "for better or for worse?"

You've said so many lovely things about my writing; thank you. It's very gratifying to know that my readers think I captured Discord's character well, since he is such a slippery character. I've been dieing to see him used as a kind of friendly nemesis ever since his reformation, so I decided to do it myself. As for the "turn-around" as you put it, I'm hoping all my readers will be pleasantly surprised and satisfied.

I love how Pinkie Pie held her own against Discord for so long and even managed to turn it around on him and shake him up.

It's interesting... it looks as if his goal isn't to discord them, merely to amuse himself by debating them into a corner, but he's messing them up badly by turning that debating skill onto their reasons for existing. And most of them are naive enough to fall for some of his more obvious sophistry. Like Pinkie, who's got tons of natural talent at this, but not enough background in philosophy to understand that if she's using her friends to make herself feel good, and by doing so she makes them feel good, then everyone wins, she has a positive effect, and therefore society has declared it acceptable for her to indulge her desires. When her desire to make ponies happy is eclipsed by a greater societal need or a strong emotional need on the part of her friend, Pinkie will back down; she doesn't get to indulge herself and her talents any time she wants to, only when it's appropriate. Discord's attempt to make her feel bad with the whole "you're using them" only works because Pinkie has no education in philosophy.

I could see either Twilight or Fluttershy taking this down, though. Twilight could, quite possibly, out-argue Discord on philosophical grounds, and Fluttershy would be more likely to keep turning it around on him and making it all about his emotional needs and why does he feel the need to do this.

Sophistry is an excellent word. I'm so pleased that you're enjoying my story; I think you'll definitely like the next couple of installments.

That. Was incredibly deep. Still waiting for it to come back and bite him on the tush though.

Can Twilight help her friends? Maybe, utilizing the memory spell she used when Discord first showed up, but otherwise magic isn't really the answer here. Discord didn't use any magic (aside from visual aids) to inadvertantly crush their dreams/ambitions/etc., he broke them down with reasoned arguments. As such, logic and philosophy is the tool needed... or mind control, I suppose. But that would be wrong.

Does Discord want to help, or is he actively seeking cutie marks? ...Yes.

I'm torn...on the one hand, this story is beautifully crafted and contains no objectionable content, but on the other, reading it had a similar effect on me as Discord did on Rarity, Rainbow, AJ, and Pinkie. It's an unfair comparison, but nonetheless...ah, such is the nature of an unfinished story. Have my like and favorite, which I will certainly rescind in the absence of a happy ending.

As a sidenote, this story explains why I'm glad I'm an F type—the fallacy of logic as an end rather than a means is that it inevitably robs life of its worth.

Good story. I had completely forgotten about this one, but I'm glad to see it updated. And I like the turn it took, Discord feeling a lot of guilt suddenly. If he didn't feel guilty like that, he'd be hard to redeem. I also really like that he tries to rationalize but fails, that is a very realistic reaction.

This whole story reminds me uncomfortably of the time a friend and I teased another friend and went over the line from teasing to hurtful, resulting in him bursting into tears and wanting to go home. We didn't even really realize how mean we were before he began crying, so I can understand the feeling Discord has. It makes a lot of sense for him to get so into the discussions that he ends up having that effect.

Good chapter, hope you'll manage the next update a little quicker.

Happy writing.

Don't use your fancy mathematics on me! Also, Discord isn't above a little mind control... :twilightoops:

I'm an INTJ, so... Enjoy more over thinking and tricky wordplay!

5135338
Don't jinx me, bro! Seriously, though, I'm thrilled you decided to stick around. Thanks for reading, and especially for sharing a personal experience and relating to my story. That kind of reaction makes writing very worthwhile. :twilightsheepish:

5142549
I'm sorry! I swear the next update will be here before you forget everything again! :facehoof:

...SO MANY TWILYS!

5174605 Hey, NFs can overthink too! :P My brain cannot and will not shut up. I'm an INFJ, by the way, representing 1.5% of the U.S. population and 7% of the brony fandom. INTJs represent 2.1% and 25% respectively, in case you are curious.

Still, what I meant is that many T types—ENTPs such as Discord in particular—have something that I like to call the Logic Shredder. They take an idea, rip it apart, and only if it is logical will they put it back together. Otherwise, they will shred it. It seems, in this case, that the life purposes of six individuals were illogical—so he shredded them.

You would think that an ENTP would learn to use their Fe after living for thousands of years, but then again, Discord isn't exactly a paragon of mental health and maturity.

The problem with this one.
"Who gave up her dreams for the sake of her friends" said episode 2.

Rainbow Dash is never going to become a wonderbolt, she would never be happy as one, and her destiny we were told explicitly episode 2 would never be to become one.

“I reckon all he's done to me is make me realize that strong enough magic makes hard work sort of pointless.

Your applebucking skills are textually magical.

As such, logic and philosophy is the tool needed...

Don't think, act.

This is awesome, looking forward to more! :D Discords response to his oops is absolutely priceless and adorkable. <3

Even though two years, give or take a month or two, have passed, I still have hope that this excellent story will be finished one day.

NOOOOOOO!!! :fluttercry:

I need this to continue!!!!
