Beware The Carpenter

What looks white when it's glad, red when it's sad and transparent when scared; sleeps through the night yet hides from the sun, won't give its name but pretends it's a bee and enjoys rollerskating?

Listen to me, and pay heed to my words
Young citizen of the Equestrian herd;
For many long years have been seen by these eyes
And through trial and prudence, my heart has grown wise.
The time has come for you to know
The truth of my past, in years long ago.
Nights of passion and of years of war
Endless depths of wondrous lore
Deadly perils and unmeasured glory
Will you listen, as I tell my story?

Well now, this is utterly fascinating. You get very little epic poetry on this site, and I'm truly delighted to see this. I also find the background you've researched (clearly quite deeply) very interesting. I wonder, have you read The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell? It wouldn't surprise me at all if that book were somewhere in your background, given the texture of the piece.

It's not all rosy: there's the odd place where the rhymes seem slightly forced ("doff" applies to taking off clothing; I think it's a metaphoric stretch too far to apply it to rebellions) and I really have no idea what "a-fey" means. I'm guessing the lines aren't actually intended to scan as well as rhyme, since they generally don't. But awfully interesting all the same, and I'll keep an eye on this one.

Glad you like it! This was originally intended to be the prologue to a epic story that sequels Storm of Secrets, that I'll be beginning next week, but then decided most people might lose interest with a 6000 word poem so I broken it into 4 parts and am releasing it separate. No I haven't read The Hero With A Thousand Faces but I'll look into it. See you round :scootangel:

Sorry it's taken me a while, too, but it was worth the wait!

#authorsnote That's an interesting and peculiar piece of information.

You should read it; it's a fantastic read and you'd probably finish it it like, 2 hours 'envy' :yay:
