Gherkin

I'm British. I write crossovers with that horse show you people like. That's about it.

T

When Moira Brown first published her Wasteland Survival Guide in 2277, thanks to the help of a newfound friend, she never knew that the east coast Brotherhood of Steel would take notice, much less ask her to accompany them so she could distribute them in various settlements across the ruins of the United States.

But they did, and her travels have led her to the Mojave Wasteland, and into the company of a wisecracking courier and his hardened sniper friend. She was set to hand out some copies of her guide to settlements surrounding the city of New Vegas. However, after a surprise attack, she and the sniper find themselves in a strange land, untouched by the ravages of nuclear war.

Moira may have mastered the wasteland, but will she learn to survive in Equestria?

A crossover with Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

*pokes the writer expectantly, waiting for more*

Leaving the soldier for dead out there won't come back to haunt them, nope not at all. :coolphoto: After all, the ponies will understand it was just self defense, right?
I've read the wiki a bit, but I've never played the games (yet) so I think the exposition here is done well enough to bring any outsider into the loop.

Brotherhood have commitments here, but hopefully we'll be able to find a caravan to take us.”

The Brotherhood
Edit: Looks like there is a version out there that says 'athirst'! It's hard to tell when there's so many translations of the Bible-

3838016 Your correction of his use of Brotherhood/The Brotherhood. In this case you are correct but it does go either way in the games.

So christina gets do meet veronica ... fun

And how long until Boone gets sick of this place?

A story about Moira and Boone in Equestria?

I think Boone might commit suicide pretty quick.

Without thinking, Christina drew her Blackhawk, before leveling it upon The Courier in a fit of rage. "Don't even think about having the fucking audacity to talk that way about my father!" she roared, as he turned to face her once again. "He was a better man than you'll ever fucking know."

Seriously though, LW, what did he say about your father? Absolutely. Nothing. If you're always pointing your gun at people just because someone said some things you don't like, I really wonder how the hell did you last this long in the waste.

I'm just waiting for the chapter about why you don't punch a manticore.

3838016

I will give unto him that is the athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Pretty sure that's an axtra 'a'.

No, that is how the quote goes.

Two problems that I can see. The first is that you introduce a BoS escort for the caravan in DC, and then they just seem to disappear and be replaced by mercs in the Mojave. Either remove the introduction or add them to the escort sequence.

Second one is that the Lone Wonderer really did overreact, as has been previously stated. A better reaction would have been for her to reply to the Courier that she's proud to be a daddy's girl. With a father like James, it would be true.

And an additional third one that perhaps could be considered personal preference by some people, and that's that Equis is a bit of a racist name for the planet. It speaks of a trend in the MLP fandom of completely forgetting about the other sapient species on the planet that the name would be a variation of "equine," while at the same time sending the in-universe message that, "You don't matter, griffon. You don't exist, Minotaur. You're just a monster, dragon. This world is for ponies, the rest of you are just passing through." Practically any name would be better than one based off a kingdom or species. (Though, for the record, the most likely names are those that are variations on "dirt," like our world.)

All that said . . . these first two chapters won me over and I'm going to be looking forward to future updates. :pinkiehappy:

3844765 For your first point:

Still going to have to walk from California to Nevada though, apparently. Brotherhood have commitments here, but hopefully we'll be able to find a caravan to take us.

The idea was to have a way for LW and Moira to get across the country without having to trek across its entirety (the vertibirds), but not have the Brotherhood present during the ambush (because, seriously, do you think Legion remnants could take out an entire patrol of them?). Alas, the Brotherhood and Lyons have commitments in D.C. that means they can't hang around for more than a couple months.

Probably should have had Christina expose the fact that they were going to be staying in the Mojave for a while until the NCR or Mojave Brotherhood (having negotiated a truce) could take them home.

As for Christina, yes she overreacted, but I wanted that to be a part of her character; her fatal flaw, as it were. She's incredibly touchy about her father, to the point where she'll do something like that and get angry, or take offense, over something nearly unrelated. Compare it to Marty McFly's "chicken" problem from the Back to the Future trilogy.

Finally, I didn't put much thought into the naming of Equestria's planet. Just went with the common fanon name. :rainbowwild: It won't have any real impact on the story, anyway.

Well, glad you enjoyed it, anyway. Thank you for the input.

Her missions were annoying but her character was a laugh, and being that she was the only one to survive when you (SPOILERS) made it all the more ridiculous.

This should be good.

Heh, nice choice of Macguffin. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that this isn't a more common choice for getting fallout characters to Equestria.

3844958
OK, mostly a good answer. (Except for the part about the planet. It's that sort of thinking that leads to things like Akane being an abusive murderer and Gendo being an omniscient mastermind. :trixieshiftleft: )

Also, I'm guessing from the name that this story is going to have Moira trying to write a guide to help spaients survive all of Equestria's weird and dangerous surprises. ("If ponies are so scared of the unknown then we'll just have to make the unknown known, and maybe make it so they don't die along the way.")

Finally, a fallout fiction with nothing to do with Fallout Equestria. Just wondering though, are the lone wanderer and the courier of your design from you actually played, or is it something you made for this story?

Interesting, very interesting so far. Of course there's the typical "Transportal Ponder" to Equestria(of course I can't think of any other way), but it's simply too soon to tell. As well as the typical "NCR" victory that everyone chooses. I actually like the interactions between your characters, and I do sense a romance coming along here. You do seem to have a bit of a grasp on the personality of the characters. I find it rather strange that they somehow end up at the Mojave outpost first instead of going somewhere like Hoover Dam first or even New Vegas and without acknowledging the passing through Caesar's territory, which the Crucifixions (or possibly bombing them) being hard to miss.
But again, it's too soon to tell how this will roll out, so I'll keep an eye on this. It is interesting to see a fellow writer do a crossover with this two figures.

3851508 The ideas for the LW and Courier came first, but I subsuquently integrated them into playthroughs of the games.

I'll put a tagged blog post up containing their character sheets so you can see for yourself.

Wow, I give boon a week before he tries to eat a bullet to escape the combined forces of Moria and the ponys.:pinkiecrazy:

I dunno, doesn't Moira seem a little too... normal? :applejackunsure:

Somehow, I think that Moira will now believe her friend story about being abducted by aliens.:trollestia:

“Just a few clips of ammo for my rifle.

a handful of .32 calibre clips.

The word you're looking for is magazines. In addition to this, how can a magazine have a caliber?

I can't wait to find out what Boone would end up with as a cutie mark.

And I have a feeling they'll get home by hijacking a spaceship.

Lol wow even in a different world Moira doesn't lose her childlike peppiness.:rainbowlaugh:

Magazines have a caliber; it's the size of the round they were designed to hold.

Well an update is an update, though kinda wish this had a little more going for it. None the less I know how much work it takes to get even this sort of work out, so just keep chugging along. Though if you could maybe update with either a little bit more or a little faster that would...be nice but um if you can't that okay too. Either way good chapter, nice format that is not a nightmare to read, and while I wasn't paying extreme attention to certain things. I don't think you had any glaringly obvious errors in there either, all in all three and a half stars out of five. -that like a grade B- mind you-

The sniper shrugged. "Yeah, I guess you've got a point," he finally relented. "Just not exactly a fan of sitting around on my ass, waiting for something to happen."

Then you shouldn't have been a sniper.

My word, just the mere use of that word makes me feel like this is some sort of science-fiction tale.

Celestia, you don't know shit.

The Hunting Rifles in the Fallout games uses clips, but for some reason, the Mojave ones use .308 opposed to .32

"Not something you see out in the wastes, that's for sure."

Not outside of the right mods, or Mt. Charleston.

we're the first human beings ever to make contact with alien life!

LW really needs to bring Moira a gray for autopsy.

"I imagine that they'll think that we're crazy."

No, Boone, they'll think you're crazy. They already know Moira's crazy. :pinkiecrazy:

Boone doesn't like sitting around doing nothing? You do know that as a sniper, that's like 90% of his job, right? I'm not even joking, a lot of snipers wait for two weeks in a shack on a hill just to make one game-changing shot. It doesn't make much sense for Boone to be that impatient. It does make sense for him to be uneasy in this situation, don't get me wrong, I just think it could have been worded better.

I like where this is going so far, lets see what future installments have

not sure if this is painfully obvious but the wasteland survival book can be found in fallout new vegas

4272602

The Courier inspected the book once again, before asking, "Are you sure this is the first time your friend's book has been brought over to the Mojave?"

She nodded, with an inquisitive look.

"Funny," he continued. "I could swear to God I've seen some copies laying around the desert before..." He trailed off, before shrugging.

3859403 its probably clips,as that is what ammo is stored in when not in a magazine.

Im a sucker for a fallout/equestria fic :pinkiecrazy::pinkiecrazy::pinkiecrazy::pinkiesick::pinkiesick::pinkiesick:

Poor Crystal Guard. Boone's far too much of a hard-ass for their pussy-footed kids to handle.

You just had to put that particular reference at the start didn't you? :rainbowlaugh:

I really want to see DOCTOR BORUS in equestrian. Don't know why.

4327008 I knew I had to the moment I saw Winter Soldier.

4272602 The author is just creating a reason for why it showed up there.

'The new princess needs a personal guard', they said.

Comma goes inside quotes.

"Something passed down from dad, I guess."

Dad or my dad
My guess? A Stealth Boy: Lily tested, Leo approved! :pinkiecrazy:

"You know, becoming a royal guard is how I met Princess Cadance."

In the comics, it is revealed that they actually met in high school.

4330753 I only consider what happens in the show definite canon. All other media I consider to be Broad Strokes canon.
