An encounter with an exotic mare leaves Prince Blueblood in an unexpected situation, one he will have to deal with for months, eleven months to be specific.
I don't claim to be an expert on equine physiology, but I would think, magical seahorse pregnancy or no, that eating all those whole, raw, fish can't be all that good for Blueblood, even if it might be good for the foal.
4233977 That's why I included the line from Twilight Sparkle that mentioned (for the purpose of this story) that ponies are naturally omnivores and ovo-lacto vegetarians by choice. And of course, there's nothing wrong with raw fish. Mmmm... sushi!
So while the change in diet might cause him some gastrointestinal discomfort (read: bad gas!), it won't ultimately be harmful.
4235406 Ok, yeah, but I was more referring to the eating them WHOLE thing. Specifically...what's all those fish bones gonna do to him? Even if the answer is 'wait them out of his system' the 'getting them out' part's really probably not gonna be fun...
Also I would hate to see Twilight's upcoming plumber bills.
Oh, Flutters. That scene was well done; just like her.
I always found worms make for poor bait. Much better to use an artificial lure that mimics a large insect, for this kind of very light fresh-water fishing. If the water's clear, cast away, too, and jiggle the line a bit. Many fish hunt by sight, so you want to catch their eye.
Plus, of course, one of the best parts of fishing is the down time to just sit and relax, one with your thoughts, and a little conversation with whomever you're sharing that stretch of water with.
As for eating said catch, yeah, I would definitely suggest getting used to the idea of boning and fileting. Messy work to be sure, but very much worth it. Though, yes, fish can be roasted whole, especially small fish. Last year, when I caught some sizable sea-bass, and inspired by Song of Ice and Fire, I cooked them medieval style: gutted but not de-boned, wrapped in a flour pastry shell, stuffed with herbs, and baked. Came out well.
Why bring that up? Fluttershy, learn to cook some fish!
