Nopony was there to help her. She’d taken the shift alone, despite all the rumors. She’d dismissed them as pure nonsense – and now she was to pay for it with her life...
Before the Power Ponies came along, Maretropolis was a second Tartarus, as one ordinary mare is about to discover. But the more you push, sooner or later, something has to give...
Oooh, I can safely say that this is looking pretty good, expands on Spike's explanation nicely. I think you can publish this, no errors I noticed.
Great work mate!
3668428 Alright; thanks!
Okay, mane-iac is the new joker.
Well that is good news.
Great work! It's awesome to know that you are still writing.
So, you probably wanted some feedback sooner, sorry about that, holiday chaos and all. Anyway though, this was a pretty good read and an interesting expansion on the character. I especially think you did a nice job in presenting the concept of a mind breaking as her morality warped and twisted beneath newfound insanity; heck, her rational of city=hell therefore city must die even almost makes sense and villains that almost makes sense while still being utterly in the wrong are possibly the scariest kind of all.
3672733 Indeed!
3673476 Thanks! And yeah, it's a nice feeling.
3674816 Sorry about that; figured you'd be busy with the holidays as well, and got impatient. But yeah, I'm glad you found this good! Yeah, those villains are the ones I find most interesting.
"Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order."
3737508 Indeed.
3737717 Criminals battle on the streets and nobody bats an eye. But just one supervillain shows up and everyone loses their minds.
3737940 Brilliant!
I feel like I'm reading a graphic novel when I see this story, and I enjoy it very much. The thing about this story I like the most is that you take us through the process as an otherwise unassuming mare is transformed (rather hellishly, I might add) into the Mane-iac. I actually felt her become a real character, and that makes me like this story even more.
That being said, I would've handled one thing in this story differently:
Mane-iac, I reject your line of intention and subsititue my own.
3755103 Thanks! I will admit, I kinda muddled through it, making a lot up on the fly, but I'm glad it turned out well.
And what.
This needs a sequel.
3769451 It does?
3770862 Yep.
3836903 Hmm...
3837021 please do a sequel !!!
4022595 Maybe!
I love this fanfic! I have been searching for a more expanded origin of the Mane-iac for a long time! you are awesome!
4706286 Thanks; I'm glad you liked it!
That was really weird.
I think I liked it.
5149279 Cool. Denke!
It fits better with the Joker parallel that she wasn't evil BEFORE going mad. It just doesn't FEEL like Joker if he was totally evil from the start. And same with Mane-iac, comic book villains tend to have an air of tragedy about them. AFter all, villains and heroes tend to have similar origins.
5376801 Indeed. Admittedly I only caught the line about her being power-hungry prior to transformation after writing this but to be perfectly honest I like my version better. It really is interesting to examine the forces that would turn an unassuming pony or person into such an insane monster.
Ah, that was great. :D I love the addition of a healing factor; it's something we never would have seen in the episode!
Hilarious, awesome, beautifully written.
7140782 Thanks!
Yeah, that was admittedly something I threw in for convenience's sake (what with the whole getting shot thing) but I think it also works as a contributing factor in her descent into madness; living through something like that can't do anything good for your head.
7142614 Thank you!
Good golly that was a wonderful ride.
I... honestly don't know what else to say beyond 'man that was a great orgin story for The Mane-iac' and 'five stars; writing and plot were on point' especially since...everyone else here seems to be saying the same thing
But truly though; this was a wonderful fic and I am glad to have found this and your other stories on this site.
Keep up the great work!
7595255 Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed the story and I love the take you had on Mane-iac. Great job.
Hello! I reviewed this recently, so here's a courtesy note. Great to see an origin story for the Mane-iac -- not something I've seen tried before. As someone else said, it feels like a novelisation of a graphic novel, and that works nicely for what it is. An easy like -- the fic's 100th, as it happens!

Thank you!
