It is well known throughout Equestria that Discord, the spirit of chaos, once ruled over the land with an iron claw, plunging the world into complete disharmony. There was, however, another creature who ruled over Equestria. His reign was legendary, and his word, absolute. Few dared to defy him, and those who did were never around long enough to regret such a decision.
Only one disorderly spirit ever betrayed the dark king and got away with it, but that spirit may not have been as successful as he once thought. Now, when an old enemy returns from centuries of banishment, Discord may have no choice but to turn to his new "friends" for assistance in dealing with him. However, with the Elements gone and their new enemy's power seemingly limitless, will Equestria's six protectors be enough to stop this vengeful demon?

This is a awesome story idea! And for many different reasons.
Firstly, its always great to have Discord be the central character for as change.
Secondly, it finally gives Discord something that he can go toe-to-toe with. Few things can actually challenge a near all-powerful being like Discord. But this Ocraten seems like a good choice.
Thirdly, it will allow Discord to become full friends and allies with the Mane 6 (aside from Fluttershy).
And finally, I've actually had a similar idea floating around in the back of my head, that there's some ancient evil being of absolute order who Discord overthrew that comes back after the Spirit of Chaos becomes a reluctant ally of the Mane 6.
So, in conclusion, I see great things from this story! Keep it coming!
This is a very refreshing take on a story with Discord. As far as I've seen, most people use Discord for two things on this site:
1. Comic relief side "character" (I say character in quotes because in many cases he doesn't have one other than to say and do the funny things)
-or-
2. (My biggest pet peeve) An overused and lazy plot device.
That is not to say he should NEVER be used as a plot device. In some instances, yes, it works better than anything else. Unfortunately, all too often, he becomes the almost universal explanation for something that needed to happen when the author couldn't justify or explain its happening.
You, sir, have managed to do neither while maintaining his humorous antics. I am very excited to see where this goes and you have my full support.

Well, Ocraten seems to have found a way of stopping Discord's powers! WOW! Discord is going to have a such a hard time, I think.
Whether his powers will slowly return to him or remain gone until Ocraten is gone, Discord will now understand what its like to be powerless. I could see this being a very useful experience in his reforming and in his friendships with the Mane 6, save Fluttershy, being true friendships.

3877922 Thanks for commenting! I never really thought about what Ocraten would actually sound like. When going through dialogue in my head, I guess the closest thing I can think of to what he sounds like would be Core, the metal head leader from Jak 2.
In the case of Equestria Daily, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't get accepted. I'm honestly not that good at writing. The writers that get on that site have a certain flare that I'm sure I lack.
I was always confused about the whole OC tag. I figured it was there for authors who want to make themselves into a pony and then put themselves into a fic, at least that's what I've gathered. If it should be there let me know.

To be honest though, I'm not sure if I'll ever do this story idea for a few reasons. Firstly, I've never written and have never considered writing MLP fan-fiction. Secondly, on fanfiction.net I already have six or seven stories for another series called Total Drama started that I'm nowhere near finishing yet. And finally, those other stories combined with my graduate classes and part time job leave me little time or energy to devote to this idea.
However, even with all of that, I might be inspired to start the roughest of story ideas. And if I do, it was mainly thanks to your encouragement!

Yay an update! I'm really liking this story so far! By coincidence, I also thought that the Hollow Shades were run by unicorn mages. It's probably the fact that it's a mysterious place in a forest, which people associate with magic, that is why people think the shades are home to unicorns. Is th pony at the end Starswirl or an original characterz.
