Rainbow Dash lives an exciting life and is swiftly becoming the most daring, awesome pegasus in all of Equestria. She would gladly give it all up, though, just to confess her love to Applejack.
The front door to the bar opened, exposing the tables and counters to bright white daylight.
The bartender paused in sweeping the floor. He looked up, blinking. "Oh... Miss Dash! How are you doing today?"
The mare exhaled. She trotted forward across the establishment. "I'm alive."
"Always a good thing, right?"
"... ... ..." Rainbow Dash sat on a stool.
The bartender blinked. With a jolt, he leaned his broom aside and trotted briskly behind the bar. "You're... uhm... here early!"
"You open or aren't you?"
"Definitely," the stallion nodded, putting away a few spare glasses and bottles. "Three o'clock in the afternoon and onwards. Usually doesn't get crowded until two hours from now." He smiled. "That's when we get the first wave of after-work crowd. Y'know... drinking buddies, sports fans." A chuckle. "Husbands delaying the ritualistic evening nag-session."
"Uh huh." Rainbow nodded, deadpan. "You serving yet?"
"Sure am." He stood across from her. "What'll it be?"
"Cider." Rainbow dropped a few bits. "Hard cider. Tall glass."
"Heh." He swept the bits toward him and moved towards the wall of drinks. "Consider it done."
"Uh huh..."
While pouring, the stallion spoke over his shoulder. "Got the day off, Miss Dash?"
"Mrmmm..." Rainbow leaned her chin on her forelimbs. "Sure. Why not."
The stallion blinked. "You... gonna wait for your usual marefriends? Usually Miss Scratch is the first to show up. She picks a booth and just... sits and composes music. Usually arrives around sundown or so."
"I'm not here for friends," Rainbow grumbled. "Just pour the cider, please. Thanks."
The stallion nodded. "Absolutely." He finished, then slid the glass to her. "Bottom's up!"
She took the container, stared down its frothy contents, and sighed. "Mmmmmm... goddess dang it." Nevertheless, with a firm expression, she took an angry sip. Closing her eyes, she sat still and... just let the cider sink in.

I've been to Vegas one time on purpose. Got in a fight with some guy after he punched my car in the middle of the road. It was all good though because some other guy jumps out of his car for no reason and starts fighting the guy that punched my car. The car was fine so I just drove away while they fought. Not really a big fan of vegas.

Well then.
Not going to Vegas any time soon.
Dis gon' be good.
6960415 Yep.
So I said this in the previous chapter's thread but I guess no one saw it.
I've noticed that Applejack has a tendency to bring up embarrassing things about Stu in public and then laugh at his discomfort. What's up with that? I thought it was just friendly ribbing at first, but looking back, it almost seems hostile. It's almost as though she resents him for some reason. But if she does, why?
Oh this is gonna be fun
Drinkin away your troubles, cuz we're allllllll been there. (well most of us at least.)
6960462 I replied...basically saying Stu lets her cuz he's whipped. But she's also showing a rather dark side of herself, being bitchy like that. The way Applejack flew off the deepend when Stu dumped her indicates she's got some serious anger issues. I like that she's not a perfect character in this story like Rainbow perceived her to be, she's flawed. I think Dash is starting to realize this and take her off the pedastal she's put her on.

Anyone gonna bet on when Las Pegasus burns to the ground?
6960491 Really seems more like she's accepted nothing is going to ever happen between them, so she's drinking till she can't feel
I have no idea what to expect, and I can't wait to find out.
6960462 I hadn't noticed that before. That's interesting.
6960531 The second Dash decided to go there, is when the smouldering started.
I think that Stu represents stability to Applejack, a stability that she felt was ripped out from under her when her parents were lost. I also think that Stu reflects Applejack's strong family values in the promise of having foals and extending her family by members and into the future.
But there are caveats. Does she really love him, or does she love the idea of what he represents? Is he Applejack's faceless father figure in a Ciderspace family fantasy? Did she choose him, or did she choose to settle for the first friendly stallion who came to the farm and spent time with her? Rainbow Dash was afraid to pursue what she wanted in fear of harming what she already had. Perhaps Applejack has accepted what she can get because she doesn't know that she can have better.
When it comes to relationships, Stu and Applejack are two very naive and inexperienced ponies.
6960687 Welcome to the frontlines, I'd normally say something about needing high feels resist, but you're a Jurist/Ninther, I'll assume I gave you that spiel already.
6960387
How many times otherwise?
Oh, I can't wait for this. It's going to be epic.
6961078 Twice actually, passing through from L.A. I didn't stop those times though and didn't go to the strip. Honestly it's a fun place for a minute, it's just so phenomenally vain It got old, not to mention I don't gamble haha. When I was there on purpose I just ended up going to redrock canyon and the valley of fire, beautiful places. I highly recommend going if you're ever in the area.
I'm curious to whether dash will tell anyone she's going on "holiday" or will just disappear, and especially if her friends will do anything.
So what about the race? The clearing of everfre? THE LETTER? We need answers before Dashie leaves. Please. P.S. just registered to finally comment and go back and up vote everything at somepoint soon.
I get a feeling this adventure arc is going to be full of a depressed RD trying to drink / distract herself from the whole situation and accidentally wind up in a heap of trouble. The talk with Fluttershy does hint that RD has some bigger issues she's dealing with than just 'the mare I like doesn't like me back' and her trying to work through those issues might cause her to do rash things.
6961741
This is an interesting question, Rainbow has proven in the past that she'll just up and disappear when an adventure arc starts (which this is). So it is likely that she'll just up and leave, though "Where Rainbow Goes On Vacation, Whether She Likes It Or Not {But Mostly Not}" implies she'll be forced into going - probably by the rest of the mane six. Fluttershy knows how important it is that Rainbow begins to move on, so she could possibly get another burst of assertiveness and talk to the rest of the group into giving Rainbow a push.
6960491
I haven't seen any indication of Rainbow seeing AJ as flawed and/or taking her off the pedestal she's been placed upon. AJ is still firmly the one and only mare for RD. If what you say was the case, we wouldn't have had the past two chapters of the conversation with Fluttershy about her needing to move on.
6960462
The AppleDasher in me wants to say 'because she knows Stu's not Rainbow and is passively aggressively trying to get rid of him'. You do make a very neat observation though, I hadn't noticed that about Applejack's behavior. I wonder how those flaws will effect how Rainbow perceives her - should she gain the knowledge of such flaws and not write them off as something else (like we have).
Boy, would I like some cider or that thing americans call cider, too. I just walked some kilometers to my office under the heat of the summer of the tropic.
6961816 They said the race was not foreshadowing.
~ADG
6962006 I can imagine RD unphased by a threatening mob of enemies looking for round 2, drunkenly punching their guts out while singing dirty blues, a la Blackjack!FoE:PH (how fitting)

I go to Vegas once a year, on average. Never had any problems. Not that it isn't an incredibly dangerous place right now: you might accidentally bump into a Presidential candidate.
Given that my pegasus alter ego hails from Las Pegasus, Rainbow Dash knows who to go to for advice, like, for example, how to save a lot of money by staying in an off-strip hotel/casino. It's not as if doing that forbids you from spending most of your waking hours on the strip.
(I've never seen an MLP-themed slot machine, though there have been plenty of Star Trek slot machines over the years.
If anyone wonders what a Star Trek slot machine looks like, here's a video of a big bonus round win:

I see Dashie has found an even healthier way to handle her problems.
