Appledashery

Rainbow Dash is a pony of many stories—most of them exciting, a good many of them humorous, and almost every single one adventurous. Everytime I ran into her, she was always spouting one anecdote after another, and very proudly too. If there was one thing that pony was good for, it was boasting, and she had many an excuse to tilt her chin towards the heavens and fly high.

What most ponies don't realize—or, at least, are starting to discover—is that some of the greatest adventures that Rainbow Dash went on, some of the most treacherous treks she's ever taken, were the ones that she didn't dare talk about.

And why not?

Quite simply because... she didn't embark upon those adventures for herself. No, she had an entirely different pony in mind, and until the day she could boast about her as well, she might as well have been called "Rainbow Humility Dash."

Still, if I had known, I wouldn't have loved her any less...

I doubt it. The first "narrator chapter" ends with this:

It ends with them cuddling.

Applejack isn't the type of pony to refer to herself in third person. Personally, I suspect it's Fluttershy.

The only way for Skirts to trick us all is by making the narrator an OC so no one guesses who it is beforehand. Q.E.D the narrator must be one of RD's illegitimate changeling babies who was banished to the moon for murdering Scootaloo.

Kinda difficult to figure out who could be narrating. Given her illness and the past tense of it is a bit heart pulling. A thought comes to mind that it could be AJ storying a young'n or like others mentioned scoots/flutters/another friend

Is AJ the narrator? ... but I'm sure the narrator has mentioned AJ in the third person before.

Hey what if there's more than one narrator.

(Also, happier interpretation than the eulogy idea: What if the narrator(s) are speaking at a wedding, not a funeral?)

Ok, I do see one other person with this thought here in the comments, but I’ll throw in my two bits worth.

I’m here, what I think is about a quarter way through this, and I’ve been thinking, and have my own theory. Now, I admit, I’ve a bit of a heads up, as I’m reading this AFTER the sequel has come out. Logic dictates it would be terribly hard to make a sequel, especially one with two-hundred chapters, if one of the couple whose names are literally in the title was dead.

Thinking thus, I began to contemplate on the comments I’ve read multiple times stating that these chapters, these narration segments, sound like a eulogy. And, I can’t help but admit, they’re right. They do sound like a eulogy. Or, to think of it more generally, they sound like someone making an emotional speech about a close friend.

And then, I started wondering, and realized that there are, in fact, TWO very different types of event where one might be called upon to make such a speech. One being the aforementioned eulogy at a funeral. . . .

The other being a wedding.

So, here is my running theory, at this point. I believe, wholeheartedly, that when I reach the end of this long, hard journey, I will find waiting at the end of the road wedding bells, and someone ( ) standing at the right hand of our dear heroine, Dashie, finishing a heartfelt, if a bit long-winded, speech about her- I mean, their dear friend, now that she’s gotten married to the mare of her dreams.

Note that this by no means is intended to impart that I think this story will end with 110% perfect sunshine and roses. I AM expecting something a bit more bittersweet, a happy ending, but with pain endured along the way. And it most certainly does not mean that I will not be crying, when it comes along.

Because let’s face it. . . .

After 1000 freakin’ chapters of this painful, joyful, depressing, elating, heartwarming, heartbreaking, festival of utter and complete emotional turbulence CALLED “APPLEDASHERY”. . . . .

Who could see a happy ending, and not shed a tear?
