When all encompassing dark surrounds the soul threatening to devour it whole, leaving the shattered within to feel completely betrayed and isolated...
... at that moment, no matter where, when, or how; there is someone willing to be there for you...
...even if they don't even realize it.
(Yes, that is Vincent Van Gogh)

*Wipes Eyes* Sorry... That ending caught me off guard and made me tear up a little. I regret putting off this story as long as I did. I loved it, and I feel I have to favourite this.
This is actually the first story I've read with an actual historic figure included; and I was not dissapointed at all! I confess, I know very little about Van Gogh as an artist or painter; but from what I've briefly heard, the poor guy was an artist well before his time and suffered for that. In that sense, I can clearly see why you would want to pair him with Luna. The way they both share their time together is quite a pleasing read and really made me smile; I mean the whole idea of Luna 'Painting the sky' is actually really clever, and really brings out that creative side of Luna that we don't see in other interpretations. Plus, like I said, that ending was beautfiul; short sweet and with that little tragic twist that brings it together.
On a more technical level, I really like the way you wrote this tale. I am a huge lover of flowery prose and description so to see this story had plenty of it -but not too much that it felt bloated - made my day; apporpriate too for a story about an artist. The pacing was just right - never too fast or slow - and as a whole, the story felt like it had this nice flow to it that kpet me invested.
The main thing that stuck with me through the whole story was a question I had from the start; was this real or a dream? Their's certainly evidence to suggest both sides; he only travels to this world at night and it seems to respond to his thoughts and emotions at some points; but conversly he's never heard of Equestria or Luna so it makes you wonder if his own mind could really concoct such a thing? I honestly can't answer one way or another, and I like it that way. I think that's why I like this one so much; it really made me think while I was reading it, and that element of mystery added an extra layer to it.
Ok I was rambling back there, but I had a lot of fun reading this and it's clear you put a lot of thought and heart into it; so I thought it deserved a comment of the same effort. It's easily one of my favourite one-shots in a long time.
Well done Paton, well done.
Congratulations, you get this.

What... what's this supposed to mean?
6871855 Oh, god, 40 weeks. My memory hurts.
A user, a long time ago, submitted this story to the Goodfic Bin. It was approved by me, but I somehow forgot to include a link to the thread in question where the decision was made. I assume. It's been a while. I could have simply been incompetent instead.
Anyway, the old decision thread is here if you care to check it out, and the story has been added to our somewhat more selective than usual folders. So it's a good thing!

Ah... well then. Thank you for the ribbon.
This is simply beautiful my good man
