After reading a story to his little sister, Princess Celestia's student Shining Armor believes that the legendary Mare in The Moon is about to return. After disregarding his warning, the princess sends her student to a small town called Ponyville to look over preparations for The Summer Sun Celebration. There, he, his sister Twilight Sparkle, and young dragon companion Spike, meet some strange mares and odd fillies. How will he survive a town full of crazy ponies? And what will he do when it turns out he was right?
The story is inspired by the Twiley chapter of Crisis of Infinite Twilights written by Defender2222.

In response to the first: yes she is about the same age. In point, should I ever continue this past the first story, she would eventually be a founding member as per Defender2222's idea.
To the second: Shining is younger than is main universe counterpart, about the age of canon Twilight. The primary difference is that Shining and Twilight are younger, having Shining becoming Celestia's student in place of Twilight. It still has some future consequences I need to work out if I ever continue past the first story.

Thank you, but it's not really original yet. What I have so far is mostly pulled directly from the first episode (which I'm watching piece by piece as I work at this point) with only minor variations based more on how I imagine that Shining Armor would respond or think in the position as opposed to Twilight Sparkle. Hopefully I'll be able to diverge a little more and walk a fine line between the actual events and something creative so it's not just a re-telling with a different character.

I say go for it and good luck. Before starting on this, I went through a part of the archives and could not find any stories with Shining Armor as one of the elements. Not just of magic either but any.
Thinking of it now, it would be pretty easy for someone to create a story where he ends up traveling to Ponyville with his sister and ends up being the Element of Loyalty....
Maybe someone else would like to use that.

I read a fanfic at some point where Rainbow was actually Celestia's Student and she had a crush on Shinning Armour.
Since it's pretty obvious that he has a crush on AJ (Not to everyone in the story though, of course), I'd find it funny if RD had a crush on him in this story too...
Funny thing is the Shinning doesn't seem to be a big fan of RD though... XD
Another question I have is that is Shinning's Magic as good as the alternate universes Twilight's? (Since her's is stronger then her universe's Shinning Armour's.)
This is a little confusing but my main question is if Shinning is currently more stonger in magic then he is now then when he's older in the alternate universe.
Also, does he still want to be the captain of the guard?

I know the story of which you speak: Rainbooms and Royalty. It is a fun little story and pretty well written. In response to your comment though, I'm not entirely sure how the relationships will work out. Rarity's interest I had in mind from the beginning. After all, a handsome, well-mannered unicorn from Canterlot with a position of royalty with the princess? Sounds exactly what she dreams about. Applejack, however was a bit spontaneous. I was watching the clip of her bucking the apple trees from the actual show, and for some reason thought Shining would be attracted to her.
On Rainbow Dash specifically, it would currently be complicated. It could end up they just be friends, it could also be they get along once in a calmer mood, or it could end up as one of those weird relationships where two individuals seem to hate each other until they finally get together romantically.
With all the relationship possibilities, it will depend on what happens in later stories if I continue any further.
On your question about Shining's power level: It's being worked on. Thinking about it, this is a stallion that managed to keep all of Canterlot safely surrounded by a massive shield for days to keep out an invasion while at the same time being drained by Chrysalis. That says to me that he has a lot of power to begin with. As such it could be that in the main universe, he has enough magic to rival Twilight, but does not have the broad capabilities of his sister. So, currently I think it's probably more in the middle; more powerful than regular Shining, but not as powerful as Twilight.
