Twilight discovers an ancient book on Necromancy, and her curiosity gets the better of her. Torn about what to do with it, she decides to read the book while Spike is away in Canterlot. But curiosity "killed the cat," and, as Twilight will learn, there is a world of difference between theory and practice.

Story is set after "Games Ponies Play" but before "Magical Mystery Cure."

Wait, what do yo mean taken?
This is a fucking library! :facehoof:

Why's the story marked complete? It doesn't seem finished to me.

3588706 Parts 3 & 4 didn't seem to go through. :/
My sincerest apologies, I'll get on that immediately. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Edit: Done! Parts 3 & 4 should be up now. Sorry for the delay.

3588569 Well, she didn't check it out... otherwise the librarian would've noticed the misplaced book and sent it back to the archives and out of circulation. Guess I should've made that more clear.

Thanks for the comment! I like challenging criticism.

definitely drawing this

drawing will commence immediately

3601907 Just got your drawings. I love them! I'll make a blog post of them later today.

Interesting story idea. It makes me happy when I read something so fresh and different.

3674374 Many thanks; I try. It means a lot to me that you took the time just to say that. :yay:

Not my taste but well written.

3744180 I thank you for giving the story a chance! I'm glad you took the time to leave a nice comment even though the subject matter wasn't your cup of tea. Fimfiction needs more people like you.

3745259 Thank you for writing the story. I especially liked how you wrote the suspense, both the internal tension and the foreboding.

3749304 That's basically what I was going for. I admit the story is lacking severely in description; gotta make up for it somehow, I guess.

This did turn out well! As I said back then, not what I usually go in for reading, but you developed a good tension in it and kept it simple. I like that the goulish aspect was minimized in favor of the emotional aspect.

The ending was muted, but fits very well. Rather than something that goes in a strange direction, this fit very well with the spirit of the show, and sort of grounded a story that's definitely outside the realm of canon.

4430767 Thanks! I was trying to go for something that would feel episodic in nature. It's like how I would write the show if I were in charge of it, I guess. Thanks for the comment.

*read the last sentence* *gulp*:twilightoops:

Personally, with a story of this nature, I would prefer a bait and switch where at the end, it turns out Twilight may not have gotten off scot-free. Dark Magic needs consequences.
