Willow, a young stallion with a penchant for restorative magics and the dream of becoming a doctor, becomes desperate when he wakes up to find his mother has passed on. He isn't about to give up on saving her. He gets to work with all the knowledge he has, to bring his mother back to life.

His plan falls apart, his brother disowns him, and to make matter worse, Willow's best friend, Amber, gets involved with the fallout of his actions.

In an Equestria on the cusp of war, Willow and Amber struggle to find some semblance of peace in the morality of their actions, and to discover what it means to love each other, as well as the responsibilities that their actions create.

i knew it would turn out to be a great story. the emotions are really well done and willow is a nicely done oc. the gryphon mentions are interesting and i cant wait to see how you implement them. amber is my fav cause shes headstrong and not a cliched damsel in distress. all in all a great chapter and i eagerly await the next chapter. good work as usual silent. :pinkiehappy:

That is awesome cover art. "I really like her m-"ok, I'll stop. I think this story's gonna go places.:pinkiehappy:

Im currious to where you will take this story so I will follow it

Based on description, is he trying to become a necromancer?

3378911 Not really, more like he performed necromancy to try and save a loved one. He's willing to perform necromancy if it means saving a life.

3379328 ah interesting. I going to definitely sit down and read this tonight.

Oooo this situation looks bleak; let's see what the duo is doing from now on. Also his brother, I have no opinion of him yet because I don't know his side of the story.

Wow. This was awesome; I can't wait to see where it leads! I smell adventure. And it smells epic.

And starting in medias res was an interesting touch. The characters, with the exception of Argent (at least so far), seem very well developed and unique from other OCs I've encountered.

Solid chapter.

3381429 Ah, I'm glad to hear that. I was worried that the OCs might come off as not deep enough, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about who they are, where they come from, and how they see the world. I'm glad it's paid off in that respect.

It is going to be a full-blown adventure, and I hope it doesn't disappoint.

3381447 I will be eagerly awaiting the next chapter. :pinkiehappy:

Well this is looking very interesting so far, cant wait to see where you go next.

When I saw this story - I instafaved it without even reading yesterday.
Now after reading the first chapter I cannot wait for the next one.

3383035 That's great to hear. I'll be toggling between this story and AHoC. Ideally they'll come out on alternating weeks. (Though writing one chapter a week might be a bit much... Eh, I can be optimistic :twilightsheepish:)

Being fan of one SilentBelle and in the same time fan of quality OC stories, I was simply delighted when I saw Fallen Leaves in news feed. :pinkiehappy:
But it is even better to know that you are not going to leave AHoC hanging due to new project. Thanks

I have to say, I like the characters so far. I'm looking forward to where this goes

3425684 Awesome. I'll be getting new chapters for this and my other story over the course of November (due to NaNoWriMo). Hopefully I'll find some time to edit the chapters as I write them.

3426467

Me like this story...

Well I'll add it to the group I made and I hope you finish this story because if you don't. Then I got no choice but to remove it.

Well? I might not remove it, as it all depends on what my goal is for the group.

Nevertheless it's been added.

How's update to this story going?

3535293 I have 2 chapters written, but I still need to edit them. I'm doing NaNoWriMo, and I just won't have the time to edit them until that's over. So I'll probably get chapter 2 out in the first week of December.

3852579 I should have the next chapter out this week. I have it written, (and have had it for basically 2 months now). I just want to be sure it has the proper tone, themes and character depth to it, I'll run it by my editor as soon as I go over it one more time and dispel that feeling of paranoia I have. This is a tougher story to write than my other adventure story, and now that I finished popping out that story's NaNoWriMo chapters, this one is going to get all my immediate attention.

However, I can't tell if he ends up brain-dead from being 'dead' for too long or have his soul already departed, leaving behind a empty shell of colt?

I only can hope for best but with this theme, I shouldn't hope too much.

3895187 Indeed...
Anyway, I can't wait for the next chapter!

Man, I've been waiting for this chapter to get updated! Great work on this one, too!

We're in this together, remember?

And so it begins...

Silent, have you read the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher? Willow's motivation for learning necromancy really reminds me of a character from one of the books. The idea of using necromancy as a type of healing magic isn't particularly common, though it is a cool idea.

3896129 I never read the Dresden Files, though I've heard enough good things about it to consider adding it to my "to read later" list of books. Would you recommend it?

3897097

I would very highly recommend it. The series has amazing writing and the books have just been getting more and more epic as they have gone along.

Oh, you updated this! I kinda didn't watch this story, thinking that I'd be seeing the chapters at the proofreading stage anyway...so I kinda missed the update.

I guess you don't need this proofreader anymore?:fluttershyouch:

I do love where this story is going. All the foreshadowing is making me really fear for Amber and Willow when the gryphons finally do show up. And judging by what I see here, I have no idea what's gonna happen to that colt.

3906119 Actually, I totally forgot. It's been so long. Now I feel awful about that :twilightoops: I'll be sure to send you Chapter Three once I go through it and fix it up a bit more.

3906199
It's cool. It's your story, not mine. :applejackunsure:

But, yeah, that'd be nice if you did.:scootangel:

I didn't think he'd manage it. I just hope he didn't revive a shell.

I'm happy that comet is alive and healthy. Willow is a damn good healer.

I cant help but to feel that something will go wrong for our protaganists

4083574 In war, something always go wrong or everything go wrong.

Gotta say, I absolutely loved this chapter.

Can't wait for the next one!

Huh, is this the brain damage I expected? He had no oxygen to the brain for an extended amound of time and he only lost a few memories, seems like... Well a miracle.

Hmm.. healthy might not be wholly correct..

5109055 I unfortunately have tossed this into hiatus until I can finish off my other story, (100k more words by my best estimate) or until my work schedule settles down (which was supposed to when summer began, but unfortunately hasn't). I'm certain to finish this story up eventually, and I'll post chapters when I have the time and energy to commit to it.

hmm i like it when a necromancy story isnt about a mad powerhungry lord of the damned but more a regular guy
makes it unique

Amber felt his magic encompass her. It was a chilling feeling, as if the air around her had become solid, holding her in place. She felt her eyelids beginning to close of their own volition. Sedative magic? “W-Willow! What the hay?! Cut it out, I didn't mean to startle you. Its me, Amber!”

What kind of pony is this guy? Uffff!!! Chillsss!

Their hoof-falls fell in a rhythmic slog on the decaying foliage of the forest floor. The wind gusted through the trees' leaves as predictably as an ailing pony's fit of coughing. The coloured leaves graced the two in small showers, but their colour held no beauty to Willow's eyes. He only saw the paling coat of his mother in every leaf. A leaf that I couldn't save... I just let her fall to the ground...

DUDE!!! What kind of comparison is that? A very macabre joke, narrator.
jaja <3

The water pulled through her mane and tail lovingly, cleansing her of the afternoon. She opened her mouth and let the stream take the foul taste from her mouth. For a single moment, she felt whole again. Then she pulled herself to the surface.

Lovely picture!!! <3!
