I noticed the tile/carpet thing also when I read over this just yesterday. I'll take care o' that right now. As for the past and present tense, I think the flashback threw me off on that, considering I've never really written one before.
Overall, have to say I agree with you on this one. This was one of my weaker stories. But, I think that it turned out alright for an experiment. See, I was trying to change up the way that I wrote because I had always felt that I went too slow, usually one session taking something like two hours. With this story being slapped into my hands, I decided that, instead of writing five hundred words a day, I wrote one thousand. In the end, though, I think I managed to burn myself out. You can almost notice how abrupt and bland the end is because I just wanted to be done with this.

Edit: I read Belief too. Have to say, that is still my favorite clopfic to this day.
