The story and the poem work very well together, and you get a lot done in only 1k words:rainbowderp:. I guess that makes sense considering the nature of poetry, though:rainbowhuh:.

I thought the poem would be painfully bad, and at first, it was. I was really worried for Dash. Then it turns out it had an actual meaning beyond just "flying is awesome", and then it was good. Nicely done.

...Damn.

Eldorado sent me here to read this. I was hesitant at first, because it seemed overloaded with prose, but then I read the poem that Dash had done. And it hit close to home, because I identified very closely with her struggle, especially this part here (SPOILER ALERT):

I glare at the pony who’s better than me,

And hide my tears so nopony will see.

It’s not worth it now, I can’t be the best,

And I think long and hard, wondering how,

When I gave up so much, and gave it my all,

Why in the end, I still have to fall?

Why there’s a pony who’s better than me,

I know exactly how she feels.

I liked it. You capture Rainbow Dash's voice perfectly. It's not real long, but it accomplishes everything it aims to. A well-conceived, well-executed story.

This was really beautiful. I loved the poem, the vocabulary was stellar, and I think you captured Dash's personality really well. Good job. It nearly brought tears to my eyes. :twilightsmile::rainbowkiss::heart:

I loved it, but the whole time I was reading it, I couldn't stop myself from thinking:

You better lose yourself in the music
The moment, you own it, better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime yo

This... you don't know how I've come to love this little particular story. You... you freaking did it so well and adjusted it to comply with Rainbow's personality that I even recited the poem in my room. It is well done... I can't thank you enough for writing this. And as 3320500 stated, I sympathised with Dash's character in this, I knew how it feels and to this day I still do... the poem had meaning, 'cause that's what they do, even in a hundred words, one can make a meaningful tune.

I felt that I couldn't walk,
My body lying still.
My form is that of a rock,
Trying to regain its will.

And yet I continue to do it,
No matter how life can be cruel.
I will not go down and sit,
For that's not how life chose to duel.

I continue to forge on,
No matter the problems.
I will wait for the dawn,
And its light now un-solemn.

One can lay down and just give in,
Yet one can stand up and do what they do.
Some can follow on what they have seen,
And some can do something for which that is true.

"I WILL NOT GIVE UP!"
"I WILL NOT FORGE ON!"
"TO DO THIS I CANNOT!"

I came in expecting a silly poem from Dash.

I came out with a really cool little character study.

Great stuff.

I don't know whether to frown because of the poem's inconsistent meter, or smile due to the fact that it fits "Rainbow Dash's first poem" so perfectly. (Shame on you anyways, Twilight! You know better! :twilightblush:)

Either way, I enjoyed this. As a cross country athlete, the message rings so true.

This is a cute story. A couple of the lines on the poem were a bit unwieldy, but the message is very relatable.
