Templar22

Thank you to all who serve, and all who have served.

T

They came from the skies, in a never ending torrent.
Humans.
Heartless, merciless, cold blooded, monsters.

Or so Shining had thought, until he had the chance to actually meet one such monster.

Written for One-shotober (2nd chapter and accompanying super fic in the works)

Hm. Neat.

I like stories that realize soldiers themselves aren't all just mindless goons and that the stresses of war are usually just as terrible for one side as it is the other. Good job.

its sad really but i love this

You messed up. The elements are useless against humans and we took over the world! Haha.

It's more fun if you imagine the role of Markov played by Tom Hanks.

I'd like to see an epilogue of this story cause it's really good.

Tom Hanks is best Hanks!

3286683>>3287056 I just needed a wounded human soldier and Mr. Hanks fit the bill...
...
Forrest Gump is one of the greatest movies ever.

3286445 Have you seen Saints and Soldiers? I think you'd really enjoy it if you like stuff like this.

3286577 Well I had to some way for we Equestrians to fight off the invader scum.

3286572 Apparently I'm not so good at the whole "happiness" thing, and thanks for the comment.

3287363

Yeah if they weren't humans.

No matter what humans always win. That's why we are superior.

I saw Tom Hanks so i immediately clicked!

*Air Raid sirens where heard as a streak of smoke started to come into view before it started heading towards ponyville, when it struck ponyville there was a bright flash followed by a Earth shattering -BOOM-. When they were finally able to look, all Shining saw was a Mushroom cloud rising from ponyville.*

3288192 I write dark not grimdark. There's a difference. Nuking dozens-hundred of innocents isn't really my thing... unless it's 40k.

3287755 That wasn't the intention, but I guess it worked anyways:twilightsheepish:

What nation was invading? Or was it a unified global effort. Markov is a Russian name, however, he could just be an immigrant to another nation. Regardless, what purpose would we have for invading Equestria, resources, maybe land? Anyway, wouldn't the UN at least send delegates if we had somehow made contact with an alien race? Believe or not, a division of the UN is actually dedicated to finding appropriate courses of action if we come into contact with extra-terrestrials. Because from Shining's description we just came and started fucking stuff up for no good reason. That... just does not make any sense. In no way does this scenario sit well with me. Anyway, if we know that we are in possession of high yield enemy ordinance, you would not keep it stored out in the open, and right on their fucking doorstep! That is stupid! You would have it transported back home so it could be properly secured. And how the hell did the ponies get them back! Shining said they were on the run! Just... I don't even-... I just... ♩One of these things is not like the other!♩

...anyway I loved the story good job the end...

3289671 To put it in perspective it might simply be an effort to "proactively protect ourselves.". More simply we found Equestria and got panicky. Someone high up decided the equestrians had to go and thus off we went. Its not nearly as far fetched as it sounds. Or worse..we're running from something and lose ourselves to the fear. Kill all in our path so that what is behind won't find use them against us.

Also, whats to say Shiny is in the know? Its not as clear cut even to him. It might have seemed like we just dropped from the sky raining death and pain. But he might not know of our meeting with Princess Celestia and our eventual turn on the fact we just met a GOD!

3289671 I intentionally didn't name any countries, I figured by the time we are able to make war on other planets, we'd have unified as a species. Similar to the C.O.G or the Imperium. Markov was just a name that I thought would sound better than say "Tom". I wanted it to be foreign sounding, and Rarity called her rock Tom so perhaps English names are not unheard of in Equestria. Also, how would we simple minded humans know the elements were anything other than fancy looking crowns? With a determined force, all things are possible. We could've gotten the elements back...
...
OK, so maybe I fudged it.... just a little at the end

3289915

Or worse..we're running from something and lose ourselves to the fear. Kill all in our path so that what is behind won't find use them against us.

...
...
Mind if I borrow that some time?

You do realize that even though you desired this to be a one-shot, it's good enough to where people are going to bug you to continue this, whether as a series or with a (number of) sequel(s).

we simple minded humans...

...please tell me that was a joke...

3291372 Haha, yeah it's a joke. But I hope you saw the point I was trying to make.

3291271 Yeah, it's gotten tons of faves (even after I marked it complete) and I've just been sitting here scratching my head going "well shoot". I suppose at some point I might write a sequel, or add more to it, but like I said, this was written for One-Shotober.

3289915 Celestia isn't a god. Here is the official definition of the word god: the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being. Since when has Celestia been creator of the universe? As far as we know, nobody even knew of her until after the events of Hearth's Warming Eve. Now, it could be argued that this other definition falls into play with Celestia: a superhuman(or pony in this case) being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human (pony) fortunes; a deity. Well, all ponies have some degree of control over nature, so that's a no. And I do not think Celestia is in total control over all the fates of every pony in Equestira. Now, she may be worshiped, but this has not been made clear. However, this in itself does not grant her the status of a god.

3291421 How would you react to a magical talking horse that can will the sun in and out of her sky? I'm not calling her a God just a god. She is damn near godlike in her own right. I was simply putting forth that we would flip out shit if we stumbled over Equestria and all it takes is someone high up ordering it and we'd be at full war with them.

3291389 Yeah, but you would think artifacts stored in an highly secured vault in the nations capital would raise some suspicion. Especially after they notice that there was nothing else being protected, just the Elements.

3291434 .... uhmm... The vault isn't exactly super obvious... perhaps we missed it totally.
...
...
:facehoof: yeah that sounded a little weak even as I typed it

3291426 I see where you are coming from, but I wouldn't even call her a god, more likely a demigod. And would the civilized world really just start attacking an enemy we don't fully understand. Especially if they haven't even shown any signs of aggression. I'm telling you that this is not how things would go down.

3291443 Yea, not obvious? Apparently a giant ass building that has an exclusive elevated road that goes directly towards it form the palace isn't obvious!:ajbemused:

But yea, enough bickering. I loved the story for what you wanted it to be, and that is that. Goodbye.

-Robert out.

3291452 Oh I fully agree but for the sake of argument I'm putting for what I believe is a fairly logical explanation. We wouldn't attack them on sight but we have no idea on the other factors, a dieing Earth, a totalitarian regime, or any other such things could lead to this. I just put forth the stupid panicked presidente idea because it's simple and fairly believable. Also we still attack things we don't understand based on a small sampling. Perhaps another equine race and us threw down earlier on and we simply assumed the equistrians were an off-shoot or the same race? Hell maybe a splinter group attacked us for being so damn strange first!

Some listening music for this.

Nice story, would like to see it expanded. And as a future historian I would like to know how this war started ... all thou it seem as the war started because of the policy described by George Carlin, the so call Big Dick foreign Policy.

3294648 ... well crap, now you got me all inspired for a prequel or something...

3295082 Perhaps after October...

I'm hoping the Equestrians attacked first because humans trying to conquer ponies always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

3295348 Better grab some mouthwash then... sorry.

3295520
It's not really that I'm against it, I'd just like to know why.

3295707 I'll explain that when/if I continue the story. I assure you it'll be something stronger than, "humans are expansionist monsters" or "the Equestrians are unknowingly sitting on piles of unobtanium rare exspenzive mineral X" or some other BS.

3296186
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. I have a strong dislike for stories where humans are just attacking for selfish, unrealistic reasons. I'm watching the story in case you do update. :pinkiehappy:

3296186 I'd say leave the story a one shot it just seems good the way it is. ya know.

3296421 This particular story will probably stay a one-shot but I think I will write more, perhaps a separate fic/pre-quell/different perspective.

3296231 I'd suggest following. cause I'm awesome Because when I do more with this idea, it'll probably be a separate story.

I'm pretty sure this was based off a movie...

3291452 These two guys I know, Merriam and Webster, don't completely agree with you. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/god You seem to be selecting one definition to the point of excluding the others. According to a classical understanding of what a deity is, Princess Celestia actually fits the classification quite well. However, the title is disquieting, and I think the character would shun it. If I were to end up an immortal alicorn with a talent such that I had dominion over something as important as day, night, magic, or love, I would strongly discourage worshipful behaviours of me, too. Maybe I'd figure out a Rebuke Prayer spell or something...?
:trollestia: "I really much prefer letters."

3291421 You know what? You're right. This whole thing is extremely weird and really nauseating, and not just because of the violence. That being said, there are a ton of fics that take this same configuration very seriously, and they aren't one-shots. This one is special in that it takes that weird space-empire monstrous humanity and shoves a heart into it. In this way, it could be read as a critique of those fics. That's probably why a lot of people are liked this, if I were to hazard a guess.

3287389 Unless the Doctor isn't there. Then we're boned. And when poorly behaved humans go against the Doctor, he wins. So, really, what you're saying is that the Doctor is superior. Really, I think what makes the Time Lords so great is that they are a race of dreamers, philosophers and builders, who have explored all of space and time. Sure, they have their bad moments, but ultimately most of them choose good. That's what makes them so great, not their unmatched martial prowess. Time Lords Aren't Bastards.
