That seems like a miner aesthetic choice, frankly I never get the whole spaces spaces between paragraphs thing. It's something they tell you to do in school yet almost none of the books I read do it. I personally find it ugly and off putting to see, "A line of text, space, line of text, space, Three soild lines of text, space, two soid lines of text, space, one line of text."

the main reason is it makes it more aesthetically streamlined. Yes many books don't do it, but that situation they're trying to save paper and costs to produce them. Here, it's an affordable luxury. It makes it easier for a reader to take each story one paragraph at a time, and avoid potential runoff when, say for example a paragraph ends at the very right side of the page. Some may not notice that, and read a paragraph's dialogue thinking it's the wrong character. The space helps separate paragraphs despite this.
