"The Holy Tome", "The Lost Relic", "Journal of the Heretics"; all are names for the Holy Covenant of the Triumvirate, a history of the tribes which documents the rise of the three powers that ruled the sky: the majestic Sun, the mysterious Moon, and the Twilight which balanced and separated the two in the harmony of their celestial dance. Over 700 years ago the Cult of Nightmare, seeking to overthrow the Sun, systematically destroyed all copies of this tome as they deemed the existence of The Triumvirate, a heresy against their one true ruler, The Nightmare. One copy survived the Purge and ended up in the possession of the Sun. Contemplate these words, passed down across generations, passed down to you.

I'm surprised that no one has reviewed this yet, well then I guess I'm the first. I am always interested in reading other's takes on the history of Equestria, and damn... one of the most interesting ones I have seen. You took what little information given to us in canon and ran with it, and ran with it to really construct the history and background, from the origin of the Tribes and the Alicorns to religion, which is something I really don't see all that often. Epona and Gaea be praised.
The conflict showed is well done, not showing the Sun or Moon being evil, nor making the "Balance" be between Chaos (Liberty as some do) and Harmony. But as a balance between the Alicorns' dominions, the Sun and Moon. And while some may give you grief about a third Alicorn, but I won't and I like how and why she is included, as the fulcrum between the two.
I will enjoy seeing where you go with this.

@Celestia's Paladin - I blame a weaker and slightly abstract description combined with a weakish first chapter for the lack of reviews. Both of which were done while I was still finding my voice (so to speak). The former which I plan to revise when the chance presents itself.

Its not that I work fast, fast workers are the people with the multiple chapter changeling stories already. Its that I left enough room in the story to be able to adjust it to canonical changes and additions. That said, I have an editor now who is looking over the first 9 chapters, so there will most likely be some updates made to those older chapters in the near future. The end goal being me submitting this to EQD and hoping it gets approved.

Unicorns + chaos-reborn = Changelings Pegasi + chaos-reborn = Gryphons
Dragons were pre-existing. There's also the matter of zebras, cows, donkeys, etc.
Speaking of timing though, might want to get this farther along before season 3 throws any more wrenches in the works.

Funny thing up until I read this chapter, Cadence never crossed my mind. Yet you done a good job and working her into mythos, funny thing it works. Looks at Cadence's mane and tail, to me those are the colors of sunrise and sunset.
I'm more interested how their merging would even work. Does one mind take over the other? are they merged in memory, spirit and persona? What sorts of implications are there for Twilight to suddenly become her brother's wife?

Right.. at first I had sort of (in place of Twilight's ego) assumed that "the spirit" trumped "the body" and thus Candence would essentially have to commit suicide. My second theory was that they'd both have to essentially do that as they each ditched their mortal coil to become a brand-new, third person(pony). Oh the implications!
