Hearths Warming

"Did you get them?" I asked Felix anxiously.

"Yep. They arrived just this morning." he replied, placing an envelope on the table.

"Oh, good. I was afraid they would be late." I said, relieved. I heard shuffling upstairs. I had woken up before Rainbow Dash so I could make sure Felix received her present on time. "Oh, she's waking up. You better get going." I said.

"Yep. I need to make sure I get everything else for today." he said, putting the envelope in his coat pocket. He walked out the door and I sat at the table finishing the breakfast I had made in case Rainbow came down early.

"Good morning, Rainbow." I said, taking a drink from my cup.

"Good morning, Flutters." she said yawning. Her mane had parted in two different directions and I couldn't help but laugh. "What's so funny?" she asked.

"Oh, nothing. Just that your mane can't decide if it wants to be up or down today." I said with a smile.

She quickly rubbed her mane with her hooves and fixed it to her usual style. "Better?" she asked.

"Yes." I said. She walked over to the counter and made herself some toast. "Are you excited for today?" I asked.

"Hm? Oh, right. Yeah, I am. I just need to get one more present." she replied.

"For who?"

"Felix. I haven't had a chance to buy his gift yet and I don't want him to be out on all the fun." she said.

"Oh, okay. Do you need help?" I offered.

"No it's-" she started, but stopped herself, as if realizing something. "Actually, yes. I do need your help. We're going to be going to the market in a few." she said.

"Okay. I'll finish eating and we can go." I said. I don't want her finding Felix and somehow getting ahold of that envelope before it's time. I thought.

I finished my breakfast and we headed down to the market. I could tell Rainbow Dash was nervous about something. I wasn't sure what it was, but I had a feeling it had something to do with the box that my parents had sent me a few months ago. "So what are you getting Felix?" I asked, trying to get her mind off whatever was making her nervous.

"Something with finances. You know how he is with that stuff." she said. "How about you look over there and I'll look over here. This way we can double the amount of ground we cover in less time." she said.

"Alright. I guess I can find something." I said.

"Great. Make sure to call me over if you find something." she said. We walked in our different directions as we searched. I looked around for a little bit before bumping into a brown coated pony.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Excuse me." I said, apologetically.

"Oh it's fine- Oh Fluttershy!" Captain Jack said.

"Miss Fluttershy! How are you doing?" I heard the Doctor exclaim behind me.

"Oh, hey Doctor." I said. "I'm just looking for a gift for Felix with Rainbow." I said

"But isn't that her in the animal store over there?" Jack said.

I looked over to where he was pointing and sure enough, Rainbow was at the counter of the animal shop across the market. "Well what's she doing over there?" I asked aloud.

"Maybe waiting for you?" Jack suggested.

"But she just told me a few minutes ago to go over here and look for something." I said.

"Then maybe it's for-" he started but the Doctor cut him off.

"It's for Felix Jack. That's what they came out here to do. Right, Fluttershy?" he asked.

"Well, yes, but-"

"Then there you go! Jack's out buying me a new Flux Manipulation Gazatron." the Doctor said.

"It's not my fault that she reversed the TARDIS' polarity and caused you to blow it in order to fix it." Jack said defensively.

"But you antagonized her." he said.

"Look, let's just go get the toaster so you can do your thing with it and fix the TARDIS so we can get back on her trail." Jack said.

"It's not a toaster! It's called a Flux Manipulation Gazatron." the Doctor exclaimed.

"Doctor it's a toaster. You put bread in it every morning for breakfast."

"Um, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go talk to Rainbow and see if she found something for Felix." I said. "Happy Hearths Warming." I said.

"Oh, that's right. It is Hearths Warming day. Well, Fluttershy, happy Hearths Warming." the Doctor said with a smile. I ran over to the animal shop. Rainbow Dash walked outside right as I reached the door. She had a cage with a blanket over it.

"Ah!!" she exclaimed.

"Oh, hi Rainbow. Did you find something for him?" I asked, eyeing the cage. "I saw you looking at the animals. I thought you were getting something financial for him?"

"Oh. Well, uh..." she stammered. "I...found something that I think he would like more than financial...things."

"Oh. I see." I said. I tried to look under the blanket and see what she had gotten but she quickly stopped me.

"It's sleeping!" she exclaimed. "We have to be quiet not to wake him." she said in a lower voice.

My animal care instincts immediately kicked in. "Oh. Well then we should get home so the commotion here doesn't wake him." I said.

"Then let's get going. You didn't buy anything for him here, did you? I don't want you to spend your money on something I was going to get him."

"Oh no. I didn't really get a chance to look around. When I saw you in the shelter, I was so curious as to what you were getting." I said. I left the Doctor out because I didn't want to bring someone associated with my parents being brought up. We arrived home and landed in our room. I tried to get another peek under the blanket. "Do you think he'll like him?" I asked.

She stopped me again. "I think this will be the best gift ever." she said, trying to hold back a grin.

"Oh can I at least see the poor thing?" I pleaded. I really wanted to make sure he was alright.

"No, Fluttershy. I want it to be a surprise to everyone." she said.

"Please Rainbow? I won't tell anyone, I promise."

"Nope. Not until we open everyone's present." she said.

"Oh. Okay." I said, defeated.

"I'm going to put him with the rest of the gifts. Maybe we can convince Felix to let us open our presents early." she said. We walked downstairs to our living room where all the wrapped goodies were. Felix must have come back and put a few more out there for us.

She placed the cage next to the others. "Does he need food? Or water? Oh, please Rainbow, let me just make sure he's okay." I pleaded again.

"He's fine, Fluttershy. Trust me."

"Are you sure? Maybe he's cold." I said. She picked me up and carried me back to the couch. I kept trying to run over to him. I couldn't help but be worried. "Can I please make sure nothing is wrong?" I asked.

"Fluttershy, just sit there." she said impatiently. I sat still and put my hooves in my lap. "Thank you." she said. She sat in the chair next to me as we waited for Felix.

I couldn't help myself but to look at the cage. I wonder what's inside. I thought There was a knock on the door and when Rainbow went and opened it, a pony in a big red suit and a white beard walked in.

"Ho ho ho!" he said as he walked in carrying a big bag of presents. "Happy Hearths Warming!"

""Felix! You look hilarious!" Rainbow exclaimed. He really did. The suit was way too big for him and sagged along the ground behind him. I couldn't help but giggle at him.

"Alright, let's see what we have here." he said in a deep voice as he walked into the living room. He placed the bag on the ground and began rummaging through it. "Fluttershy, I believe this one is for you." he said. I walked up to him and took it as he pulled another out. "Rainbow Dash, this one is for you. I think it's a hoodie of some sort." he said.

I pulled open my box and found a really pretty scarf with birds and bunnies on it. It fit me, and I eagerly put it around my neck. "Thanks Felix! I love it." I said.

"Wow! This is so cool!" Rainbow exclaimed. She ran into the bathroom before I saw what she had gotten.

I looked to Felix. "Do you still have them?" I whispered to him.

"Yeah." he whispered back, handing me the envelope from his pocket. I took it and placed it on the table, next to the cage.

"Thanks Felix!" I heard her shout. She walked out in a Wonderbolts hoodie. It fit her perfectly. Even on their off season she was following them and what they were up to. She was completely obsessed with them. "What's that?" she asked, pointing to the envelope.

Felix and I were smiling. "Open it." I said.

"Well hold on a second. You guys still need to open up your gifts from me!" she exclaimed. She handed Felix a wrapped box, which he tore open quickly. For a grown stallion, he sure acted like a child at times.

"Woo! Thanks, sis! Now you have no excuse to say that you aren't interested in finances!" he said as he looked at the board game. "You know, since you were the one who bought this."

"Hey, if I ever move out of here, I want to know how to handle myself." she said.

I got up and walked over to her, confused. I gave a light tug on her tail. "Um, Rainbow? I thought the animal was for him." I asked.

"Nah. I wouldn't give him something like this. He wouldn't know what to do with it." she said. She made me sit back down and grabbed the cage. She placed it on my lap and pulled the blanket off the cage. I let out a loud gasp as I saw the red songbird that stood inside. It sang a beautiful tune that made me smile.

"Oh my gosh. He's so beautiful." I said in amazement. I had always wanted a pet bird, but they were too expensive for me to afford. I opened the cage and the bird flew onto my shoulder. It rustled it's feathers and snuggled into my mane. I was so happy I could barely contain myself. "Thank you, Rainbow Dash!" I exclaimed and gave her a big hug.

"No problem. I know how much you love animals, so I had to get this bird for you." she said.

I let go of her and grabbed the envelope. "Here. I know you're going to love this." I said, giddy with excitement.

She opened the envelope and her jaw dropped at what she found inside. "Are these..." she said quietly. My smile grew wide. "Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh! Thank you, Fluttershy!" she exclaimed, almost dropping the meet and greet tickets to an upcoming Wonderbolts air show. She ran up to me and gave me a tight hug.

"Well, it wasn't just me. Felix was the one who thought of the tickets. I just added the meet and greet." I said.

She let go of me and rushed to her brother. "You guys are so awesome!" she said.

"You know we try to." he replied back. "Happy Hearths Warming."

"Happy Hearths Warming." Rainbow and I replied. For the next few hours we sat together and opened up the rest of our gifts. Rainbow Dash sat exceptionally closer to me than she usually did, but I didn't say anything. I liked her being close to me.

After all our presents were opened we walked upstairs to our rooms. It wasn't even that late, but we were exhausted. I sat on my beds and I sneaked a look to Rainbow. She looked so beautiful. She pushed her mane out of her face as she took the hoodie off and placed it on her bed. I bit my lip. "Rainbow? Can I ask you something?"

She looked to me and I saw her blush. "Yeah?"

"I really liked what you got me. He's so beautiful and he can sing wonderfully." I said as the bird flew over to Angel. I stood up from the bed and walked over to her. "Did you like what Felix and I got you?"

"Are you kidding me? Of course I liked it. I loved it! The Wonderbolts are the most elite flying group in Equestria, and you got me tickets to actually meet them!" she exclaimed. She walked closer to me. "It's the best gift in the world." she said.

I felt my cheeks flush. She was so close to me that I could feel her breath. She gave me a tight hug and I held her in this embrace. My heart raced at 100 beats a minute as she rubbed her hoof along my back. I should tell her... I thought. She's so close to me that it's almost unbearable not to tell her how I feel.

She pulled out of the hug and looked in my eyes. Her deep purple eyes drew me in and I lost myself in them. "Rainbow Dash-" I started but she cut me off as she pressed her lips against mine. She pulled away and I stood there, shocked at what she had done. "Rainbow..." I said in a daze. She laughed softly and gave me another kiss. A tear fell from my eye as she pulled me close and held me.

I don't care what Rainbow says. What she gave me just now is the best gift anyone could ever give someone. Their love.
