Though I didn't exactly like how you set up the thought that rumor and myth/legend basically made sure that Celestia and Luna wanted the Death Sentence, I do appreciate how you set it up that Lyra could come in and save the day.
Then theres the whole, 'Loving Misunderstandings' because they got tipsy and actually felt like something was going for them- IE, Lyra has a chance at getting some happiness.
Mason doesn't realize a few things- Lyra is a very very intelligent mare! She would listen! She may have been heart broken several times but she probably knows that it may turn in her favor to slowly and carefully get him used to dating a pony!
She doesn't need to be anypony but herself to make him see that she's a charming and wonderful mare who is just as lonely..and sees the potential to stop both their loneliness. The fact that Bon Bon shows how much she cares for Lyra as did Rarity does show while she may not have many friends, she DOES have a group who want her to succeed. He may be outnumbered- but these are Ponyville ponies. They won't ostracize him for long.
3169426 All valid points and all things I've thought about. We're only 2 chapters in, and I've got a good number of things set up to address most, if not all of these things. Let this bud bloom into the flower before ostracizing it.
Interesting story so far. At the beginning of the first chapter, I had my reservations regarding the shockingly out of character reactions from Tia and Luna, but after reading the comments, I would love to see how exactly you plan to weave all these peices together.

Humans tend to move into courtship at varying degrees of speed. Many adopt the "live fast" approach, casting aside caution and embracing each other without reservation while others prefer the "slow and steady" pace, preferring to cement a relationship as best friends. That being said, these two are quickly becoming favorites of mine. Lyra obviously wants to push forward with their relationship while Mason wants to sit back and enjoy her friendship.
I can honestly say, I didn't expect Bonbon to react so much like a... Sociopath? Yeah, a sociopath. I guess Lyra really hit some low spots in the past, so much so that Bonbon had to become her protector... Or whatever this was.
All in all, well done.
Hmmm, quite interesting how things are developing. The little bit with the colors and cutie mark on the outfit made me laugh though, mostly because the human in mah story, well, he gets all his clothing from Rares and she apparently got the brilliant idea to make all of his apparel's designs based upon the colors and cutie marks of everypony, including the Princesses.
So, you can see how funny/awkward that would be if that fact was true in my story: all the mares would be chasing after him from the mixed signals. Hahaha.
Anyway, I'm curious to see how this goes; I think Mason has a part of him that actually does like Lyra more than a friend, but he's getting hung up on that thing most HiE's do about the whole species difference bit. I'm rooting for this to all work out fer them, so you can bet your bits I'll be eagerly waiting updates!

Hexed, it's the obvious answer to the problem. Thing is, how would ponies know if something like a topical aphrodisiac could prove harmless or worse case scenario, fatal if applied? Half of the magical ingredients used in potions, or old school medicine would kill a man in the wrong doses. Horses and ponies often times need stronger doses of medicines and mood elevators than a human would.
Bon Bon may have just signed his death warrant by giving him a mood elevator with which we cannot know the effects of on the human body. His heart could very well run out on him during intercourse. Just goes to show you, meddlers mean well but could easily ruin things if given the chance.
