Brawny Steed

T

That's how long it's been since Flash Sentry went MIA during a mission up north. Twilight has been waiting for him to come back, believing he is still alive. However, others are in need of the Princess more than they need a good guard. Twilight is uncertain how she feels around Flash and waits for him to get an answer to her feelings, but when he's been missing for seven months... one might think something has happened.

This seems like a good story. I will definitely read it. (Also, I'm betting that the people who downvoted didn't even read it - they just don't like the ship. Shame on them.)

Well, first thing's first, can I just say, I'm glad boredom was attacking me, because it summoned me to read this story and it sure was cute! Fabulous job!
Secondly, I'm so, so sorry about your friend. :fluttercry: I'm positive she would've loved this story, though, and I have no doubts she was a brilliant writer.

Let the two months of love commence!

3252345 they don't like it then that's to them. people downvote for other things and that's their right as much as people are to like the story. sorry if this comes off as negative or annoying but i'm a bit tired of people making that excuse. no offense.

Dude, do you know how many people downvote stories for that reason? Just 'cause they don't like a ship?

...A hell of a lot. (I should know, because one of my stories was a victim to it.)

3252363 Thank you for your concern and praise.

3252486 Imaginations can run wild, can't they?

3252580 None taken. I wasn't expecting much of a reception when I wrote this. I just wanted to write a story about a pairing I happen to like. On the upside, this is getting better than I first expected.

3252595 Ironically, I was shot down once because I was trying to get in on a popular pairing I didn't like because it was so damn overused.

3252595 never said I did. it can be for those reasons, it can be for other reasons. again i'm not trying to start something. hell my story got thumb downed quite a bit because I paired Cadence up with another male character, divorced Shining Armor and lived happily ever after. Probably because alot of people don't like to have anything go against canon that find Cadence and SA can't go with anything else. it's like you can't have one without the other while some people try.

it goes both ways.

plus, I'm not new here.

3252901 Signed it months ago.

Wow, great story. Cleanly written, everyone was in-character, and everything was so cute. I like this pairing.
By the way, I have no idea why there are so many downvotes suddenly. Must be a knee-jerk reaction from the haters.

I would have to say that this is one of your better works. The flow was seamless, the characterizations were all pretty great. Overall, pretty cute.

My favorite aspect would have to be the portrayal of Flash Sentry. I've read a select few before, where the writer's were obviously and deeply in love with the Flashlight ship, that pretty much threw the two into each other's hooves and love instantly flourished, other cheesy-ass bullcrap, yadda yadda. ( Sadly, I blame our very own generation. I can't tell you how many friends I have and people I've known get hitched after a single month or two of dating, and then talk on and on about how they were a match made by the stars, and other sweet, empty nothings. And these practices are being passed on to the next generation. Not to say that it never works out, some couples find their equilibrium and they're pretty decent. I just feel like such aspects are putting the wrong ideas into people's heads... )

To my delight, I did not find this here. Instead, the story played out in a realistic pacing, and left off on a note that could easily lead in either direction. Maybe they do click together, or maybe they find that it's just not the right fit. And every variable in between is possible.

If I were to have one complaint, it would be the amount of time it takes for the train to reach the Crystal Empire from Ponyville. Two whole days? How fast does this train go, exactly?

Running the figures under the parameters that the train runs in a straight line from Ponyville to the Empire without stopping or slowing down, one would then be able to give a rough estimate to distance by simply inputting speed. Say the train ran at a steady 30mph. If it took exactly 24hrs to each said destination, that would mean the train would have traveled 720 miles. Just to give you a perspective of that distance, 720 miles is about a hundred miles shy of California's northern boarder to its own southern boarder.

That's just going 30mph. If we were to assume that the Ponyville train could be held to similar speeds of a steam engine of olden times, you're talking more along the lines of 50mph, maybe 85mph if it was in a hurry. Under those parameters, you're now talking about a distance anywhere between 1200-2040 miles. The distance between Vancouver, Canada and Tijuana, Mexico is about 1400 miles, so that gives you another rough idea of that kind of distance at suggested speeds.

Granted, this is under the rules that the train doesn't stop at stations along the way and travels in a straight light. However, adopting the average speed of an olden passenger train, likely 70mph overall, Two days suggests to me that the amount of land between Ponyville and the Empire is roughly equivalent in area to the U.S. It might not be too, too hard for me to believe if it weren't for Games Ponies Play, and Just For Sidekicks. A couple hours, I could see. Two whole days? Come on...

I'll admit that was somewhat of a nit-pick. Details like that tend to bother me more than the next person. But even you have to admit, that was a bit of a stretch.

4088575 In the show, the train's speed is Plot-Based, meaning it'll take as much time as the writers say it does. As proof, let me point to MMMystery on the Friendship Express.

First the train from Ponyville to Canterlot only took about half an hour tops. Then in that episode, it's an overnight train?:rainbowhuh: Starting from quarter to three in the afternoon?:rainbowhuh: What would the distance be then? This is something I did not like with the train in Equestria.

So I went with either the train moves slower than most expected trains that we have or Equestria is bigger than the maps tell us in this story, trying to establish some headcanon distance between the places.

They were going to Canterlot in that episode!?!

The friendship express is broken as fuck, lmao :twilightsheepish:

I know this is old as hay, but I reviewed it anyway. It's not bad, albeit a little clunky (especially the Road Runner reference). I did like Posey getting a name-check, though. Perhaps oddly for a FlashLight story, I think Cadance is the best character here!

Ah! I have to know what else you have in mind for this relationship! :raritycry: On the bright side, this was nice, and a very sweet beginning to what could potentially be a long-term thing.

To be frank with you, I don't know how to proceed without making it so cheesy. I don't wanna grab the Cheeseball and ruin the little teasing thing I got going here. This was meant to be open-ended and if you have an idea on how to proceed, go ahead yourself. I might make a sequel, but I'm not sure. I got a lot on my plate right now.

Also, I am genuinely surprised it took you this long to find this. Thank you for reading this.

9245646
Yeah, a part of me was kind of scared to read this because I was worried that you killed off Flash or something. :twilightsheepish:

9245657
Who, me? Naaaah. If I wanted to kill Flash, I wouldn't have written this, now would I? I'd have done something a lot more direct.
