That's some catch, that Catch-22

T

As long as there have been humans, people have disappeared without explanation; and as long as there has been militaries, there have been those who go missing. In 1986 I was one of those who vanished into the land of Equestria. At the time I was flying an F-14 Tomcat with the U.S. Navy's VF-84 fighter squadron. But life has a funny way of getting in the way of our plans and causes us to create new ones. My story was one of many. Along the way I got to know many famous people and help improve the nation of Equestria. I now write my story and hope you enjoy.

~James Jones, Royal Equestrian Air Force

New side story here.

How typical
AIE (army in equestria)
They kill teh ponies, help to kill other things, like griffons or archevils,or other hyoomuns who came trough.

3059900 can't say anything about this story because I haven't read it yet but I typically like this type of plot.

3059973
dinnae say it was bad.
IS GUD

3060033 sounded a bit... devaluing though. Mind your wording a bit more next time.

3060354
I'm going to be working on the second chapter today so I hope to have it up by tonight but Sunday afternoon by the latest.

Now that I think about it my plane in my sim was Corsair number 7 with VF-17.:rainbowderp: Disney working with the NSA?

Bonus points for using the winrar F-14.

ok i would have say this to her if she want my firearms " are you afraid because the weapons give the weak to fight back on your rule, where we are from us human hate leaders like you with every part of their body and then some more. If you want my guns kill me and take it from my dead cold fucking hands " ( giving her my own version of the fluttershy stare )

Bitch please I carry more weapons with me to school than all those (lots of pencil and pens that are like knife

If this is a Vietnam era story, it's too bad the Russians never actually flew the Migs against the Americans in Vietnam.

What happened to "every other weekend"? It's been TWELVE weeks!

3499911
Sorry. I was having writers block and then when I did have an idea it required rewriting chapter three to fit the storyboard and the number of distractions that kept me from writing was too many to count. But I should have chapter three rewritten and out by the end of next weekend.

3501230 Cool. I just started reading this (awesome) story and I don't wanna be left hangin'.

... Looks like someone was aiming to remove an aircraft carrier with an antiship missle, or some Commandant was running an unscheduled live ordinace drill (giving the pilot a feel for how the real ordinance drags on the plane) on the usual "Let's scare the Americanskis" flight...
Given how quickly the reds jumped at the "Missle Lock" bait, I'd say someone was going for option A... :twilightoops:

When landing on an aircraft carrier, don't you go full throttle,so,if you miss the landing hook, you don't crash into the sea and die?

3598054
That is correct. My uncle was an F-14 pilot with VF-1 "Wolfpack" (same squadron as Maverik from Top Gun) and he always talks about the carrier launches and landings which is where most of my information about the Tomcat comes from. They first developed the teqnique during the 1950's because of aircraft missing and going overboard into the drink. There are quite a few old planes in the ocean from missing the wire.

Fifty megatons is a little big for taking out a ship isn't it? That's the same amount as tsar bomba, which had explosion big enough to completely destroy everything within a 15 mile radius, and give 3rd degree burns up to a 42 mile radius. It was also very big and heavy, so I doubt putting it on a missile would work unless you used a full scale rocket. You don't need a big tonnage to take out a ship, you especially don't need fifty megatons. I realize it was a suicide misson, but the Russians wouldn't was that much resources on a experimental weapon, just to destroy one ship.

3775979
Usually an aircraft carrier travels with several other ships like destroyers or cruisers so the weapon is designed to take out not just the carrier but all ships around it. There are more details on the weapon later on in the story.

3776021
They have tested nuclear weapons on a fleet of ships, while it didn't destroy any of them, the intense heat and radiation would of killed any one on board those ships. They used a way lower yield fission device for this.

3776033
The tests at Bikini Atoll showed an underwater detonation was more effective by sinking the U.S.S. Saratoga and several captured ships, including a German heavy cruiser. So nuclear weapons like the Tzar Bomba could, in theory, sink a fleet of ships with a nearby airburst.

3776239
Yeah, but it is so impractical, so expensive, that it wouldn't be a good solution. Tsar bomba was really costly for the Russians to detonate. The only reason they used it was to scare the U.S.

Hmmm, the cues given during the scenes on Earth seem to peg it as 1987-88. If this is supposed to be our timeline I would guess a rogue General who saw the handwriting on the wall as far as the USSR's economy or lack thereof was going in reguards of their military budget. I would imagine him quietly disappeared after trying to kick off a war while the USSR was still theoretically able to pull it off...
If its not our timeline, as the bit about Gegarin would indicate... Hmm, will our intrepid aviators need to intervene somehow, with help from Equestria to prevent Earth from glowing in the dark? Anyone trying to make a Carrier Group vanish in a manner visible from 900 miles away may not be content at a missing aircraft if he has support in the Kremlin... :twilightoops:

Dude, the Ah Ah Ah. Stop it, it's getting really f:yay:coming annoying.

3892919
It's going to get taken care of in chapter 8 when they try to teach James proper grammar. No grantees he'll talk normal but he will at least start using I instead of Ah around halfway through the chapter.

why cliffhanger :raritycry:

also this is a very good story so far and I can't wait to read more of it. :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

Nuke the entire United States? The United States would see the missiles coming long before they were even launched and would launch its own missiles at Russia. There's a REASON why no one has tried to nuke all the countries they don't like.

hmm well a great cliff hanger and it gets more confusing, well done chapter so far, :rainbowhuh:

I really wanted to like the story. The writing is good, but there are just too many glaring issues (personally) for me to give it a thumbs up. No thumbs down either.

Best of luck with the story

Is there any chance u can put a b-52 carpet bomber in there, pleaaaase that or maybe a Lockheed sr-71 for recon on an op or something

3914640
I was thinking about a U-2 but I can change that to a Blackbird no problem.

Sweet, don't get me wrong the U-2 was a great recon plane but it could only fly at 500 mph where as the Blackbird can fly at Mach 3. I just think that it's a really good piece of American history.

3917919
Indeed it was a good piece of history. I used to work with a man was one of the first test pilots to fly the Blackbird and he said it was the most magnificent plane he ever had the opportunity to fly when he was in the service. My former boss also had two vertical fins from one that he sold for $10,000 to a collector. Proof that over twenty years after it's retirement it is still popular with aviation nuts.

There was only about 20 ever made also so it's still a very rare plane.

3934169
I'll make sure to fix that as soon as I can.

3934635
I thought the same thing. Learn something new every day I suppose.

3917919
The U-2 was ok for it's time, though I feel the only reason it's so important is because of the U-2 incident, and giving a good name for a band. In fact, that's pretty much the whole reason the Blackbird was made.

3983458
Yet it proved to be better than the Blackbird as it is till in service.

3983485
But we don't use it near as much, when so much other stuff like satellites can do its job. The SR-71's missions and logs are still somewhat classified, and it was mostly used in blacker operations. They've always been taken out and put back in service, but we always keep them in reserve for how valuable.

The Blackbird still outclasses the Dragon Lady in most every way. Speed, altitude, and all the essentials in a recon plane. Not to mention we haven't lost one to enemy action, whereas we lost U-2's before. The SR-71 was built to be the U-2's replacement, it's as simple as that.

Damn son, you got me hooked. Can't waitto see those nazi bastards die!

I could have sworn I'd read this, but maybe you deleted some chapters? I guess I'll give it another go.

4175679
I deleted chapter three to fit the new storyline which is what is currently up.
