27, Female, Iowan, College Graduate. Favorite Pony: Celestia. Favorite Not Pony: Discord. Yeah, I like Equestria's Gods, so that's what most my fics are going to be about!

A being that exists to perpetuate chaos. A creature that only knows how to destroy order and peace, tearing itself, and everything around it to pieces. A Draconequus is disorder, violence, and death.
As a child, Discord must confront this definition, and come to terms with it his own way.

Now this is a bit of excitement. It's so rare that someone has a unique take on Discord's origins.

And more important than that, the story is brilliantly written and creates a vivid image in the mind of the surroundings and the spells. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one!

It's not very often that I stumble across a piece of fiction of this quality on a whim. Thankfully, I did. Fantastically well-written, you're visiting the oft-ignored and highly interesting origins of Discord in a captivating and original way, maintaining a fast enough pace whilst maintaining a substantial amount of depth - it's superb.

This is possibly the first time I've read an introductory chapter and been left without any criticisms whatsoever. I've never tracked anything before... or favourited anything, but I just might do so with this one.

Overall, it was a pleasure to read, and I thank you for writing it. Hope you continue this and the best of luck with future chapters. Most of all, I hope you enjoyed writing is as much as I enjoyed reading it! Congrats.

If I said this was beautiful I would be understating this. Definite track.

Your stories are AMAZING, Grey Potter!:pinkiehappy:

247773 Your comment = :raritystarry: I've very glad you liked it!

I guess this is a problem with FimFic's design mostly, but this story is complete. I use this version of Discord in my main story, Steadfast Sky, but that work is significantly lighter in tone, and doesn't focus so much on his life among the Draconequus.

Again, thank you for your comments. I did really enjoy writing this, and I'm glad you enjoyed the read :pinkiehappy:

Wow. This is one of the greatest fics I've read. It keeps my attention very well and it is just so well written. I would feel very proud if I were you! Discord is one of my favorite characters and reading this history you created for him makes my liking even stronger. He is an amazing character when taken into your hands. Keep this up! I'm tracking this and will be eagerly awaiting more!

this was badass, can't wait for the second chapter and definitely how Discord just gets more badass and powerful

I can't stop reading this!
Why does nobody see it from Discord's view? :fluttercry:
I'd be fine with rocks turning blue.

I definitely think that the new introduction and ending give the story a much more complete feel. Not to mention that closing line is just extra perfect, considering how Discord tried to make chaos something that was wonderful and enjoyable in its own way. I have high hopes that this'll get through Equestria Daily's prereaders this time!

I never really saw Discord as being an evil character as such, even during the cannon. After all, how hard would it be for him to transport one of the mane 6 to the bottom of the ocean or up into space? That would barely be a flap of his hand. But he doesn't.

Chaos isn't fun unless there is a straight man, someone for the joke to be played on. Killing everyone ruins the joke.

Well done. I look forwards to reading more from you in the future.

Hm, a rocky start with inconsistent tense, but an interesting interpretation of one of my favorite characters.

This was an amazing story. Well thought, very touching. Poor Discord... He was only trying to brew harmless chaos! :pinkiesad2:

This is just one chapter? Really, just one.......single........CHAPTER.

Normally, I read very few fanfics, however, by an act of Pinkie Pie I randomly clicked on the link to THIS tale....... :pinkiegasp:

You, Miss/Sir Potter, have a talent for crafting an engaging read and I sincerely hope that you keep refining your word crafting chops. I look forward to future chapters of your story.

IMHO, what you have done in one chapter should be the foundation of Discord's cannon back story. It's like you took Ender's Game, Hunger Games, MLP, and.... idk... Shannarra series and buzzed them in a blender to make a completely improbably delicious smoothie (maybe a good twist of Heinlien's Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land as well). Sure, there are (minor and niggling) blemishes through the read (that are largely insignificant), but anyone who complains about that junk should just be taken in stride.

Keep smiling and write about Discord.

Giardia Equii

Definitely adds a lot to Steadfast Sky. Still a little thrown by the last part, though.

"...he remained, transformed into a god by the very mechanism the ponies use to grow their own."
I wish this story had the context that would explain that line.:fluttercry:

Am I looking at some spoilers for Steadfast Sky? :scootangel: That sure would explain a lot about the Shadow Stallion

*A golden eye peers from nowhere upon the king of chaos* "There is one, Discord", the eye's owner smiled to itself. "Though I am thankful the rest of your kind eliminated themselves. I'd find it nauseating to even look at them, even if they only burned an image into my mind for a moment before I let them become the chaos they in futility sought."

A very interesting story, with Discord as a sort of heroic villain, rising above his species' brutality. And yet, even he doesn't know 'true' chaos. He has touched only a fragment of the truth and stopped short of the ultimate epiphany. His kind acted much like chimps or lions in a pride. Simply being an animal isn't chaos. No, even an animal has order. It has organs. It must function to live. If a being can die, then how can it be chaos? How can it live, when life requires order? Chaos can neither live nor die, It is it's own form of immortality while still being in utter disarray. True chaos sees the Uncertainty Principle as mind-numbingly predictable! And this is why Discord hasn't totally grasped what it means to be chaos.

To be truly chaos, you must become nothing, and everything, all at the same time. Everywhere and nowhere, to be chaos is to be infinity while restricted in a singularity. One may be be bound in perfect crystalline formation at one instant, then scattered randomly throughout the farthest reached of the universe the next. No prediction can touch chaos. Nothing can ever be expected other than surprises.

But there is one limit. Chaos cannot exist in its pure form in any universe, for no universe can exist where there is pure chaos.

I love this idea for Discord.
He became a God because of all that his kind rejected and despised.

Very well written.

Brilliant. I applaud you.

I do feel a mite cheated by the "and then he won" time skip, and I hope you come back to it as it has such great scope, but even foreshortened like this, it was well worth reading.

Interesting take on Discord. One of the most original that I've seen.

I'm always amazed at how some of you writers can take up any villain character and make them seem almost likeable, pitiable even. A great take on Discord. Congratulations!

This was an absolute joy to read. I always get so excited when I find a unique/well written history/origin story. And this was no exception. You constructed an entire society, and you made me believe it, even though it doesn't fit within my own head-canon.

I have to say, I liked this interpretation of Discord. I also have to point out that your characters were fantastic all round. Discord and Ruin had a perfect dynamic between them, and it worked brilliantly in Discord's development. This was a very well constructed piece.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this, so thank you. Keep up the fantastic work!

Excellent, simply excellent! A great tie-in for Steadfast Sky.

Ruin is an interesting character and I'd like to see more of him at some stage. Spin-off?

Been thinking about it, just dont know how to properly tie it in. :trixieshiftleft: Or even if I should revisit his character, because he's an OC... I'm afraid of coming off as self-indulgent if I spend too much time working with my original characters. :trixieshiftright:

Kind of reminds me of The Legend of Drizzt. I'm not sure it perfectly gels with everything we saw of Discord, but it fits most of it pretty well--and let's face it, it's a more interesting interpretation than what canon provides. Thumbs up.

Awesome take on Discord's beginnings. This has to be one of the most original stories I've read in a while as well. Nice work!

I don't think so, really.
I really consider the "look, he's not writing official fiction, he's a closed-minded self-indulgent circle jerk" approach idiotic. The concept of Ruin as a character, as Discord's brother and mentor, especially in an approach to his genesis as good and unique as this one, is IMHO worth a spinoff even if it's non-canon. I don't care if some mules get thrown off by the OC tag, they'd be thrown off anyways - I care if what I read is good, and I'd certainly read more from you about the draconequiis' origins.

RANDOM AWESOME IDEA: How did exactly Discord's species disappear? What role did Ruin have in it? What role did ponies have in it? Perhaps the rise of ponies as a race in general had something to do with it? Perhaps it was Discord who tried to create a race that wasn't as self-destructive as his own, which race did later cause the draconequii to collapse onto themselves in a mindless war and, frankly, didn't turn out as chaotic as he wanted it to be, with two rebel sisters called Celestia and Luna finding the Elements of Harmony, managing to achieve god- and alicornhood themselves* and entrapping ponies' very creator in stone because of his constant tries to "spice" Equestrians' life up all the time.
*That would require that ponies learned "how to be a god" from Discord, not vice versa, as you've written in Fostering Intelligence above, but oh well.

(Too many ideas, eeyup.)
Do tell me what you think though. This sounds like a whole new approach to the origins of Discord, Equestria, the Royal Princesses and so on.

And, well, it would sate the in the beginning, there was only chaos theorem...

Seeing as how this is a slightly tweaked prequel to my main story, I actually do have an idea about how the Draconequus came to an end, and do plan on writing that story once it comes to it. But your ideas are certainly interesting :rainbowlaugh:

If I was going to write a Ruin story, however, it would focus more on the origin of the Draconequus, or on Ruin's own childhood. I'm batting ideas around, but I have other things I need to focus on and write right now :rainbowlaugh:

in an underground chamber that stunk of hot fur and sour milk,

A lovely prequel you have written here.

This is an excellent take on the mysteries surrounding both Discord and the Draconequui, I love it.
Doesn't really fit with my head canon, but still brilliant.

I want to know more about how he became a God. Was it simply because he clung to his ideals, even when his very nature told him otherwise? :rainbowhuh:

Excellent job. Very well-written and a well-executed, logical backstory to Discord's nature as a villain. This could've done for a few proofreads, though, grammar-wise. But then I'm just a nitpicky cunt.

Two pluses.
