This story is a sequel to Memories of the Stone

The follow-up to Night of a Broken Heart. Twilight Sparkle has been reduced to dust from a ritual gone horribly wrong, and Equestria's highest nobles demand justice for the crimes of the Mane 6, a scandal that threatens to drag down even the Royal Sisters. Will changeling trickery, the malice of Blueblood, and a student-gone-wrong deliver the final blow to end Harmony?

Or regardless of who wins, will there be an Equestria left to rule?

(AU set after the end of Season 3- borrows happily from the worlds of Final Fantasy)

seriously, what in the hell is going on????:applejackconfused: I thought it was the element (ok, former Elements) on trial, now it's Celestia as well???

I'm really confused something fierce!!

Heh. Celestia, being the ruler of Equestria normally shouldn't even be IN the whole trial- as co-ruler, she has effective immunity to a "lower power" trying her for anything. On the other side, she isn't supposed to stick her hoof into trials either, because it's considered incredibly biased. A less moral pony might well have sat there, left the Mane 6 holding the bag, and been unsplattered by the mud at all.

Celestia isn't that kind of pony, and without Twilight to think their way out of trouble, you have five very lost little ponies (with a sixth drawn in for good measure) at the mercy of a judicial system that considers what they did while "possessed" the worst kind of horror, utterly tortured...and all along, Celestia knew they were being tried for what was really HER crime. Add in seeing her "daughter" dying horribly while trying to fix her problems, and you have a ruler so goaded by the weight of her own sins that she breaks her own laws to save innocent ponies from taking the rap.

After all, to every other pony the Elements are a power of pure goodness, so whatever the Mane 6 did, it was their own fault- right? Until Celestia spilled the beans, that's what -everyone else thought had happened-. Mane 6 goes on rampage, kills dozens while "destroying evil", then blows up Crystal Heart and entire Empire with it and escapes, having caused mass ponyslaughter.

Memories of the Stone has what happened in the Empire, Night of a Broken Heart the aftereffects. If you haven't read the first, the trial might be considerably confusing!

It´s such a shame that chrysalis probably doesn´t include the return of a dead one in her plans^^

No, I'm afraid that Queen has a HORRIBLE streak of crossing the wrong Sparkle. That is, if she can pull herself together and not explode again. And Celestia doesn't emo out. Or Luna gets old-school on her uppity subjects and declares Mare-ital law.. Or the rest of her friends (and that Trixie mare) don't end up with a century-long statue sentence.

And then there's two unicorns she sent down, down, down the river. Even Blueblood doesn't deserve death by excessive hydrobreaking, does he?

:raritywink: : I hear a calm pool at that speed is like going horn-first into a chunk of concrete!

Um...maybe that's a changeling masquerading as Rarity.

:raritydespair: : You mean you DIDN'T kill off that rotten plothole?

I blame prison, It's hardened her. Sorry, dear. Find out later on in the story.

3013809 ah but as the ruling monarch she has final say in all verdicts and decidions of court handed down, to this day the queen can still pardon any criminal in britan agianst even the power of the supremem court, i would think it exists the same in equestria. infact for speaking agianst her then blueblood is defualt guilty of high treason and should therefore be arrested and punished as well.

where is bahamut in all this? i geuss he was too powerful for celestia and luna to take i mena he could probably have remade twiligth alone.

Equestria's monarchy is a tad more balanced- while indeed, Celestia could have done quite a lot by royal fiat- she didn't. Pardoning the Elements outright would have left the impression of a coverup and when six of your subjects are being considered for obliterating a neighboring country- you don't do that if you want to keep any kind of political power whatsoever.

The power to override the people is a potent one- but blatantly using it can mean we'd be looking at the pony equivalent of a Cromwell rising up. Queen Elizabeth wouldn't likely pardon mass murderers, and to the outside that's exactly what the Mane 6 are- the ones who left the Crystal Empire a charnel house full of ghosts, undead, and worse and an entire species of pony demanding answers (never mind her subjects, who are about as horrified).

(SPOILER WARNING)
As for Blueblood- "he" was playing dirty. Pushing all of Celestia's buttons at once and playing on her guilt for the entire thing would make you THINK he'd get slapped for it...and look at what happens to the REAL Blueblood later. Shoved off a balcony by "Royal Guards" to plunge to his doom! Chrysalis borrowed the one royal shape big enough to pull off easily, abrasive enough to get away with being her almost-usual changeling self, and because it's a MALE, the last thing most people would expect the QUEEN of the changelings to imitate.

As it is, if the real Blueblood isn't found alive at the end (DUN DUN DUN!), he becomes the stallion who was brave enough to speak against the tyrant Celestia despite the risk of treason, who had him killed along with his special somepony (the disfavored student, and remember- no Equestria Girls happened here, so she's no Element-stealing criminal) to bury two problems in one river. Nasty fake rumors take on "proof" and suddenly, the Royal line isn't pretty Princesses with blood all over their hooves. Justice for Blueblood! Justice for innocent young Sunset Shimmer, drowned in the flower of her youth for being in love with the right pony at the wrong time! Did Celestia send her Element flunkies to destroy a rival nation behind the hand of "friendship"? Tear down the Diarchy! (Hint: This would be a bad end.)
(SPOILERS END)

And as for Bahamut? Have you been looking at my future chapter drafts, O reader? :) I
