I've been both in Caramel's position (falling for a girl who wasn't gay/bi) and Roseluck's (had a guy friend who was head over heels for me...we had to stop being friends, it hurt him too much).

I'm pretty sure "people" in this context is used in a more technical/metaphoric sense. Simply put, thinking, feeling sentient beings who can have myriad life experiences and problems. Four legs, two -- doesn't matter. I never thought for a second your Caramel/Roseluck/Daisy were anything but ponies anyway.
So your story simply reaffirms the versatility of even the least-touched upon of Friendship is Magic's characters and lore, while also flatteringly showcasing your ability as a writer, all in a rather down-to-earth manner.
