I`M SO LUCKY TODAY!!!
Just finished the last chapter, gone to notifications and BAM! new chapter already :D
Edit: After reading i was... sad, really REALLY sad. Flutters killed herself and destroyed half of the world, Pinkie had a heartbreaking confession for Twilight that was never sent, Dashie...Oh my god i can`t even talk about that, etc...
Bravo, man, bravo. That. THAT brought tears. Manly tears.
I`m proud that there is so much awesome authors in our fandom, especially you.
~AlfaMaxis.
Sometimes, I think that all of the Ministry Mares betrayed their respective Element, at some time, so it's no wonder that the Elements left the Bearers (because, well, not all of the bearers are dead, 'cause Fluttershy became a tree). Twilight's Magic led to disastrous experiments and potential holocaust of Diamong Dogs. Rainbow Dash's Loyalty became muddled and obscure. She was loyal to Equestria, but not to her friends any more. Rarity's Generosity drove her to mess with dark and terrible magic. Fluttershy's Kindness destroyed the world. Pinkie Pie... Well, we all know what happened to Pinkie Pie.
So, knowing that there is the true heart of Twilight Sparkle, the project that is based on her virtue, and not vices, must be a light in the darkness for Spike. And, well, for Littlepip, too.
And that chapter ending brought a tear to my eye. It's so better as an audio recording than an actual scene. I think I should write a music theme for that.
3021447 she became a tree. Literally. Some Killing Joke or something. Dash's fate is ultimately unknown, btw.

To make a spoiler tag, you use (spoiler)(/spoiler), only with square brackets.
This is what I talk about when I said that this fic still has some of FIM's ideals of friendship and bonding triumphing over the odds. As Spike pointed out, the Mares were seperated in those Ministeries and without their friends to help them, their weaknesses the things that hurt them the most, came to the forefront. Their friends were always the ones to lessen their weaknesses and their faults, to help them up when their OCD, arrogance, ect would become too much or at least tone it down. However, as Spike said, their weaknesses caused them to crack and without that spark, that strong bond that they had, there was nothing more they could do.
I also love how this is how Twilight saved the world, in the end. Once again our heroine helped to save Equestria, even if it was through other bearers. Also Spike, I love you in this fic, but you are thinking in the wrong way, maybe you should look closer...I see two elements right there.
Another great point is Spike's convo with the heroes, it is so hearwarming to see Spike have somepony to talk to and relive all of his friends greatest expeirences (though I can imagine he left some events out...)
maybe it was 28?
Kkat did reveal her personal headcanon about Dash's fate... But i can't remember the link and google is remarkably unhelpful
Also, spoilers are an absolute pain on iPad - you have to copy paste everything into another text box (like the address bar)
3021777 ... okay about killing joke it`s your imagination
3022322 Here's the link in question. (@Everyone else: Spoilers!)
Wow. Sending Gilda after Dash? Irony at its finest.
3022326
Oh really?
3022542 You saw a line where it`s told that SHE DIED BECAUSE SHE ATE KILLING JOKE AND THEN BECAME A TREE?
3022634
She didn't die. She just became a tree. Killing joke doesn't need to be eaten to affect one with its ridiculous magic. Fluttershy once said she wanted to become a tree, and so she did, through Killing Joke. Please revisit later chapters. As well as Afterword so that you may be reminded that Fluttershy didn't die. Thank you.
Great!!
Spike's chapter...
This one tears me up every single time. It's just so terribly sad...
3022374
Whaaaat? Woah. I never saw that before. That's some heavy stuff, there!
3022374
Thank you for that link, seriously. That was awesome.
3022679
I don't think the person you're speaking to has READ what you're talking about yet. He seems to be reading along with FimFiction's updates. In which case, I seriously hope he didn't read your spoilers, because holy crap those are some huge spoilers. Of course, human curiosity, he probably did read them.
There's at least 5 points in this chapter that brought me to the verge of tears. This is a very powerful chapter.
I feel it proper that the Gardens of Equestria was Twily's final gift to the world before her and her friends' demises. To sacrifice so much of one's life towards something that could revive a world and a civilization is beyond beautiful.
I really feel for Spike too, 200 hundred years, and he slept doomsday away, unable to be with his closest friends. I know were I in his position, I'd of went mad with grief and heart ache, destroying everything around me in blind insanity.
3020723 Um, the reason they aren't used is because they aren't really weapons. If somebody uses a weapon, (Only once) their enemies die. If somebody uses a disease as a weapon, EVERYBODY dies. If they could make it selective, they would use it in an instant.
3024176 ... GOD DAMN IT!!!!
This is the end of volume 2. 3 more to go.
That last recording.
Ouch. Just.... ouch. Such a short thing, and just so very vicious.
In less soul-crushing thoughts, it's fitting that the Elements end up being the GECK stand-in. I particularly like the replacement name. No need for an acronym: Just a homophonic abbreviation.
I'm also amused. I read the bit with the Elements, immediately had that 'ooooooh, I see where this is going' moment... and then Spike promptly pointed out that no, no I did not.
Shame, Homage would look great with an apple 'round her neck. (I'm sure Pip would agree)
3021511
Aaaand here's that song:
(Gida and Dash basically share the same voice because it's CrazedRambling's voice, but I guess that it's easy to distinguish between them. )
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to cry in a corner....like a man. Cheers, mate.
Gilda man, I knew she hated RB & her new friends but, Damn!
SPOILERS
Littlepip's special talent is finding ponies. I always thought that was pretty clever.
Don't be silly. Everypony knows that anything larger than you cannot hear you while you are discussing whether it is a threat. Otherwise what would be the point of discussion?
"SteelHooves . . . feel free to wet your filthy Steel Ranger armor. I hope it rusts your joints into immobility."
Actually, now I have to wonder (and I don't blame you if you don't want to wonder with me): how long was Steel Ranger armor designed to be worn nonstop? I assume that the ability to expel waste from the armor without removing it would have made the armor less impenetrable, so there's probably some system that processes waste into a form more suited to being stored until it can be removed. I'll bet there's even something to turn urine into drinkable water so a Ranger won't get dehydrated on long missions (and that one part of training is forcing new Rangers to get used to drinking this water). But there's no way it was designed to go two centuries straight. On the other hoof, I'm pretty sure Canterlot ghouls at least have no real need to eat (I'm not sure about other ghouls) and therefore presumably don't excrete either. And clearly whatever's going on inside that armor has worked adequately all this time.
You accidentally wrote "he" instead of "she."
Because he's a dirty rotten Steel Ranger. Are you even listening to me?
The M.A.S.E.B.S. can't hold a candle to to Spike's setup. Once you know what lies deeper in the cave, you'll see why I could argue that hacking spritebots is an insulting simple use for the computing power he has within his cave, just waiting for the opportune moment.
That I have to lay at Tia's hooves. She was old enough to have some idea what Equestria was getting into. She was like a mother to the entire nation. And she failed to protect her children from their folly.
Some blame goes to Luna as well, of course, but until Littlehorn it was mainly Tia in charge, and afterwards things had already gone far too far to go back.
Wouldn't it be nice if Calamity were wrong? The best I can say about it is that it works better on average than autocracy.
I wish we had an immortal benevolent dictator.
One can only imagine so.
I stand before you today with not zero, not one, but two untethered thoughts:
It occurs to me that, in a post-apocalyptic wasteland (or probably any other circumstances that would force me to stake my life upon quick decisions about whether to trust total strangers), I would be to a meaningful degree more inclined to trust a Fo:E fan than some other random stranger. Who knows what sort of morals other strangers have been absorbing? So if the world ends, and I am separated from my friends either by circumstances beyond our control or irreconcilable differences in opinion about the relative weights to put upon survival and remaining good (I'd like to aspire to at least be an occasionally useful acquaintance to a hero), expect to see me back here fishing for allies in the area.
How long would you need to travel the Wasteland, asking ponies what their virtue was, before you found somepony who said it was magic? Does anypony even know what that means? Because I sure don't.
A machina, waiting for a deus to ex from it. But there hasn't been a deus in two hundred years. Or is that "there hasn't been a deus egg" or "deus seed" or something like that? I guess the Bearers aren't the ones ex-ing.
Don't correct my grammar. I am fully aware I said "waiting for a god to from from it." I just don't care.
You've collected two thirds of the ponies needed, though. You're just not one of them.
And we the audience never do get to find out who Generosity and Magic are, so don't worry too much about the fact you haven't found the last two yet. For that matter, I can't even remember for sure if Ditzy and Homage are explicitly confirmed in the end, or if I merely know because it's blatantly obvious.
On the outside, maybe. But it takes a strong soul to remain a hero no matter how many times you almost die, or don't even get so much as a "thank you" for your hard and dangerous work, or see how most ponies consider it the height of folly to look out for somepony other than yourself. On the inside, where it counts, you are just as big as Spike.
Your intestine, for example, ought to be at least fifty feet long. I bet Spike's is shorter; carnivores generally have short intestines (though I'm completely guessing when I assert that also being a lithovore doesn't change that).
Nopony should die alone (well, nopony should approach death alone; for the dying itself it doesn't really matter to the fresh corpse who was and wasn't present). Twilight should not have had to spend three days trapped alone in a room, then get melded with the Goddess against her will. But it was not your place to change that. Gardens of Equestria is more important than any pony. If you had been there, depending on how well the facility was constructed to withstand a dragon, either you would have been trapped in the room too, or you would have exited into a sea of Taint and a copious dosage of radiation. You could have died with her, but that's it. And then who would guard Gardens of Equestria? Who would even know it existed, or how to use it? Your place is here, much as you may wish you could have done more.
To remember is the greatest service we can provide to the past. And memories are the greatest gift the past can give to us.
They always remember that dragons are greedy. And they always forget that dragons are proud. Admittedly, this doesn't come up very often, since most dragons are rather antisocial and have little regard for ideas of morals that do not directly benefit them. Most dragons are only offended by bribes that are unreasonably small, and will often tell you to offer a better price rather than immediately attacking, because they're perfectly happy to be bribed as long as the price is right. But if you do find an opportunity to attempt to bribe a dragon to go against its moral convictions . . . well, it's not a mistake you can make twice.
There's not much that can hold a candle to a balefire phoenix.
And in the few cases where something can, it's not like the candle flame is going to hurt the phoenix.
Boy was I surprised when that turned out to be true. I thought it was just one of those outlandish tall tales that always crop up around historical figures as they turn into legends.
I always found this recording quite intriguing, because we don't know a lot about Dash's fate. This may be the last record we have of her. Or that security camera footage from Canterlot may be the last. Gilda may be Dash's cause of death. Or maybe not; Dash may have let herself be found, but I'm not sure she even knows how to give up, and I don't know who'd win in a fight. And, if I remember correctly, there's a skeleton to be found later which could belong to Dash. Or it could be Scoot's, or there's a small chance it belonged to some other random pegasus. We just generally don't know.
First thought: Borderlands 1 much. You do everything to find you can't do Jack Hand.. Shit, Jack Shit.
Second thought: I would like to become a tree tree tree tree
Second and a half thought: HAROLD, I LOVE YOU AND IF YOUR FLUTTERS, WELL, THAT'D BE GREAT!
Well the story my POV is kinda going to the "Borderlands" side more than the "Fallout" side for the feel, sound and look.
I dont get it.
Well, she did always want to be a tree.
for the record as soon as i heard the description of the dragon, i KNEW it was spike
3092727 I thought this was dash saying this
I have never read this fic before so I have no idea if this is true, but I believe that fluttershy became a tree considering that in fallout 3 there is a guy who is a tree
I knew it was Spike......because I read it on the Wiki site! Damn it, I just had to go online and read about this on the Wiki site. At least I didn't read it all so some things will still be a surprise.
:O
...
Wow.
This chapter was... pretty poerful.
That last bit
that last part
<sigh> I'm just not feeling the feels I should. I know they are there, I'm just...Past Sins did it to me, this should be doing it more. I can't put this down.
Also, was Splendid Valley the second Megaspell detonation or the first? The first site would make it much more interesting, but the retooling in the last months is gonna be huge. Next chapter, when I wake up.
SO watcher was spike then.... didn't see that coming. though now that i think of it that makes a lot more sense than what i thought.
Now that everything isn't new, some of the emotional moments hit me harder than they did the first time. Argh.
...Oh god. Considering that, I dread the ending.
Called it, knew that mind imprint thing would pop up again here. I'm getting a bad feeling, this is reminding me of some of the Fallout Tactics endings... I hope it isn't what I think it is...
“You seem to forget who is tasty and good with ketchup.”
When they fire Gardens of Equestria should I play fitting music? I was thinking something like
See everything change, watch the world begin again?
Wow, I was on the verge of tears. Well done.
Cant argue with that logic!
3756225 Gentlemen, we have found a twilight sparkle in our midst.
hey does Homage have this ???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM2J0gb_j-8
It seems that Littlepip read The Hobbit...
Well, SteelHooves wouldn't be very tasty...
But war also never changes...
One spell to rule them all... Lots of Tolkien in this chapter...
Spike, you wouldn't believe, but there's a planet somewhere, where there are lots of such guys...
Yet still some
goponies don't trust wheels...Well... She probably thought she was... *takes off sunglasses* ...a hot stuff.
Seems that Littlepip is also in a mood for such puns...
“Democracies tend t’ make a mess outta everything,” Calamity said with clear bitterness. “Only time they c’n act as one is when they’re feelin’ threatened.”
Sound LIKE THE USA government if you ask me
