Applejack: Introduction

Applejack Apple: A dependable and humble farm pony

Species: Earth Pony

Special Talent: Farm work (though she seems to also have a knack for rodeo tricks)

Born the second child, and first daughter of Apple Fritter Apple and Apple Dumpling Apple, Applejack always cherished the time she spent with her family. From a young age she seemed to express an intrest in both apple bucking and a rodeo career. She still valued the time she spent with her family however, and even gave a hat that she won from a state fair to her father as a father's day gift. As a result Applejack developed a close bond with her parents, and many of their beliefs were passed on to her.

Eventually Applejack seemed to become convinced that she wanted to pursue a rodeo career like her father had once hoped to have. But that all changed when one day, not long after the birth of their third child Apple Bloom, both Apple Fritter and Apple Dumpling lost their lives when trying to save a young filly named Rarity.

The accident scared Applejack for life and for a time she built up a fence around her emotions. Trying desperately to forget that the tragic events had ever happened. But eventually Granny Smith set her straight, although Applejack was forced to put her plans for a rodeo carrer on hold.

Despite being a very talented athlete Applejack did not learn about the Equestria Battle Tournament until after Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity already knew about it. Once she learned what the prize money would be Applejack instantly signed up, knowing that with that kind of money she could get Granny Smith's hip fixed and fix up Sweet Apple Acres a little.

But little does Applejack know that besides facing her friends she'll also face off against a new enemy that will shake her to the very core.

Yes I lifted Applejack's back story out of one of the fan made comics.

Edit: I've now edited the story of Applejack's hat based on her hot minute. Someone on Equestria Daily suggested that she won it bobbing for apples (as the video stated), then gave it to her father as a father's day present, and when he died she wore it all the time as a tragic keepsake.
