A sort of 'what if' story I thought up of. Let's just assume everything in the show went completely fine and according to story, except Spike wasn't there. Experimenting with first person fiction, be gentle. Tags added as they come. Also, the picture may not seem so, but he does have wings in the story. Just thought I would point that out.

Very interesting Spike fanfic indeed, and it makes me wonder where he is going to end up in the next chapter and if anypony is going to find him. I am a huge Spike fan, and this concept of him not even being apart of the ponies' lives is intriguing.

I had to come up with some sort of history for all of the characters I made up, considering this is branched outside of the show's plot line. This was probably the hardest chapter to do for me, since most of this story line was all an elaborate set up, AND I'm trying out a new perspective to write from.
I was really considering using the dragons from 'Dragon Quest' as his friends. Then I thought to go the extra mile and make up my own characters, since just stealin' em would just be cheap.
Also, prepare for when the Romance tag comes into play, it'll be completely unexpected and spontaneous, but not for another good three chapters or so.

The concept of Spike meeting the cast on such terms is pretty nice, to say the least.

Loved this chapter, and it warmed my heart to see the Mane Six being welcoming to Spike, and not afraid of him or hostile toward him.
I can't wait for the next chapter. Also, I wonder if he will be accepted by the rest of Ponyville, and especially the princesses.
I don't think Spike is an asshole. And Spike should be shipped with a princess... Just my opinion.

I don't think so. This Spike wasn't raised by mare and just had a near death experience and doesn't have any memory. He is still nice for the most part but isn't the type to do what everyone tells him to do.

Not really, I have thoughts like that when I'm going through a tough time or just don't feel like being a zen person at the moment. As long as it's only thoughts and nothing more, it's not really an asshole thing to do.
Besides, we can cut him some slack. Just make sure not to go overboard and to not have him stick to the same things.
