And in The Final Age, Harmony shall be all but lost, as all the world's creatures are united and divided in fang and claw, in banners and blood. The Great War shall rage across all the world, in the Lands That Are Known, from The Hallowed Rift to Anger's Deep, from Peregrine Vale to Evo's Wilds, and even the vast, unmapped and untamed wilds that no creature blessed with the gift of Tongues has ever yet set hoof nor claw upon shall play host to great battles and unceasing bloodshed.

The Great War shall rage across the world for years uncounted, and in the end not even The Holy Land, seated in The Throne Of The World, ruled and protected by The Last Children Of Alicornia shall be spared. Not even their mastery of the world's mana will be enough to save them, and so shall The Sun weep tears of red for her lost children as The Promised Land Of All Ponykind bathes in the blood of its sons and its daughters.

Thus, when all hope is lost, and the vast armies march upon The Heart Of The World itself, shall The Last Children Of Alicornia seek desperate aid, and turn to the Stars.

And so shall The Final Gift Of The Gods be given unto the world, and from beyond the dark Void, so shall He come. With His coming, so shall end the Great War, and with it the Final Age - one way or another.

All this and more shall come to pass, for so I have borne witness in vivid, agonizing detail. All that remains to be seen, is whether the Eldrich beast shall be at last our salvation... or our final damnation.

Oh damn. This...

I got my eye on this.

~Skeeter The Lurker

I have read the prologue and boy... You got my attention.

So Shining Armor is an alicorn in this fic?

This fic has a hell of an epic beginning. Do I detect a Robert Jordan influence?

Anyway, I'm very curious as to the Eldrich Beast is going to be. There's a human tag, so that's likely a given, but taking into account that the war is already years old and Equestria is on the ropes, the standard "normal" person growing into his power would be really tough to pull off.

Also given that Celestia, Luna, Chrysalis, Nightmare Moon (somehow separate from Luna), Shinicorn, and the Elements of Harmony are all in that room... Whoever they summon will have to be able to do what between 5 and 11 alicorns plus a set of massively powerful artifacts can't. Oh, and two of those alicorns control the sun and moon respectively. Who are they summoning? Rand Al'thor?

I can't wait to see how this goes!!

Yes, Shining Armor is indeed an alicorn. I am definitely using the Alternate Universe tag to its fullest extent, and I have yet to see an alicorn Shining Armor anywhere else. I think its a rather awesome concept and is very fun to write about. I mean come on, who doesn't want to see best stallion as a cool kick-ass alicorn? There's a reason every enemy soldier from the Gryphus Highlands to the Diamond Deeps dreads the call of The Platinum Prince(©).

I'm sure you'll be rather disappointed to hear that I've never read the Wheel of Time series (I had to google Robert Jordan to to figure out what you where referencing).

And true, the Human tag makes it pretty much a given, but I assure, there will be absolutely nothing "normal" about it. By its very definition, an Eldrich Beast/Abomination is the exact opposite of normal after all. This is something from utterly beyond their very reality, from an absolutely alien reality and physics than thier own, so utterly foreign and strange that it would completely break their poor little pony minds it they were to comprehend it.

But then again, that would make the pony's world completely alien to It too, wouldn't it? I can't tell you much, in the interest of avoiding spoilers, but I will say this - it's going to be a fun ride.

Since you are unfamiliar with his works, please simply take my comment for the praise that it is, since I am implying that your story is reminiscent of one of the most popular authors of our generation.

Hm...

I really, really want to like this. I love an epic tale, and this has all the makings of one.

But, goddammit, it's like a blank wall of purple prose and overdone physical description. I caught myself skipping over entire sentences just to get to the good stuff...

I really think this needs a rewrite, just to refine it and omit all the needless words.

Oh, and that description, while epic, is way too thick. Just sayin'.

I can kind of see where you're coming from, I definitely tried a bit harder than usual with description with this. I was going for a sort of grand sweeping epic thematically, in the settings and events especially, but I suppose I may have over done it a bit. Pray tell, what exactly are the "good parts" in particular that you found yourself skipping to? I'd like to know what to focus on.

And you're right about the description. I've been looking through it and trying to find where the chaff and the meat of it separate.

Thanks for your thoughts.

2839422 I look for the shorter, sweeter descriptions and the "here-and-now" parts, specifically the parts which actually have character interaction. They were what kept me grounded in the story.

I would recommend, chiefly, that you go at the prose with a butcher knife. "Omit needless words." as Professor Strunk said.

Remember the golden rule: Show, don't tell.

(But tell is still important, no matter what people say.)

Oh hell yeah, that was all sorts of Epic.

And Shining Armor Alicorn? Aww yeah.

im a bit confused who is at war with who here?:applejackunsure:

2857709

In case you are in need of clarification, their are two major alliances at war with each other here; the Gryphons, Diamond Dogs and Minotaurs, all against the Ponies, Changelings and Zebras. It's all outlined in the prologue, albeit vaguely.

Huh, this seems familiar... Did you do a reboot of this story?

NEVER MIND! completely different...

Hmn, no mention of what the cost actually was. I wonder if this God just wanted to know how much they would sacrifice, or if the cost has been paid and we just haven't seen it yet.

looking forward to the next installment :pinkiehappy:
