Just by looking at the character tags, it's obvious Colgate is the tooth fairy. Or rarity.
I thought that that "or is she" had spike as the subject and I was going to tell you to correct it, but the tooth fairy is obviously the focused subject. Such an idiot sometimes. Oh well, going to read this later sounds like fun.
I wish I could have Spike's tooth.

but I find it weird and funny that the Cakes would sell Emeralds, which is probably worth thousands of bits, for a few bits when they could just keep it for themselves.

Gemstones are extremely common in Equestria (see Dog and Pony Show/Hearth's Warming Eve). I very much doubt a few Emeralds would be worth "thousands of bits".
An insane Colgate creating the "tooth fairy" legend to feed her obsession with teeth is a great concept. It has a lot more comedic potential than this single story and I'd love to see more around that theme.
Unfortunately, as much as I normally enjoy a good non sequitur ending, this one fell flat for me. Maybe it's just that I find the idea of a grown pony making out with a baby dragon more than a little creepy. Sorry to break your streak, but I have to be honest and give this one a thumbs-down.

You had a really good Spike going and the tooth fairy's identity was, I thought, really clever and original, but the humor at the end is really shaky and the final scene just kills the story for me. :/

I've got to second that. I thought the fic was intriguing until the "Colgate is obsessed by teeth and made the tooth fairy thing up" reveal. Then I had that 'trying too hard to be funny.' vibe.
The writing's good, but this isn't my style of comedy.
So...that's a thing...I'm...gonna go over here now....
