Yet another story idea created through lack of sleep and way too much sugar...
Discord has been in Canterlot ever since the episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On" where he has made steady progress in turning over a new leaf and using his powers for good. However, Celestia still doesn't quite trust him, and so he's rarely ever able to really let loose with the Chaos. This eventually gets to Discord, and in a moment of intense boredom when Celestia just conveniently happens to be too busy to stop him from going too far, he decides to try something big, something he's never done before, something he doesn't even know if he CAN do.
Create sentient ponies from inanimate objects. We're not talking about a gravy boat that acts like a dog, we're talking about fully sentient and intelligent ponies, made from the first two objects his chaos summoned to him.
Thus, Smarty Pants and Tom became more than just an old doll and a large rock, and good old fashion Chaos ensues.
Of course, Celestia would probably not approve, so they certainly can't stay in Canterlot Castle with him. What he needs is to hide them for a few days while he tries to break the news to Celestia of his latest trick without getting himself turned back to stone at the end. Canterlot is a big town, surely they won't attract too much attention amongst all the other ponies, right?
Yeah, we all know things will likely spiral out of control, but that's probably exactly what Discord is hoping for, assuming he thinks of an explanation before the fun ends.

Interesting. And hilarious. Don´t worry, you can take all your time in making Discord lines if they turn out this good. I must admit this promising beginning could at least compare to Keep Calm and Flutter On (I don´t mention Return of Harmony for now because quite frankly that is an episode difficult to top, but who knows if you can do it as the story goes).
I wonder how Discord will react that his own creation seemed to renegade him (I can already tell who she sees as her mother and father), not to mention how this will affect the lives of ponies of either Canterlot or Ponyville (unsure where the next part will take place). And of course how Discord will try to distract both Celestia and Luna for what he did, at least until he can find a good excuse.
So yeah, keep let them coming. I want more. MOOORREEEEE!!!!!!!!!
2796759 Your comment is awesome, I mean, I'm probably reading too much into it, but if you just honestly compared this chapter to an actual episode of the show then my gosh I'm flipping out in excitement here.
It also makes me really nervous, because honestly this story wasn't ever even supposed to be ABOUT Discord, I was going to have him in like, maybe one or two chapters, just enough to create the two and for them to begin doing their own thing, but he sort of took over the story as I wrote it (I mean I seriously couldn't think of how to write the beginning, so I thought "What would Discord do in his free time?" and began making stuff up off the top of my head), and what should have been a few paragraphs and a quick disappearance turned into all of this.
I wasn't planning on having him do much more than send them on their way with maybe some kind of quest, and then maybe he'd show up again at the end, but I'm already predicting like two more chapters with him in it before I'll be able to separate him from the two characters I wanted to focus on, and now it only seems natural to have a few parts throughout of him possibly trying to track them down while not appearing suspicious in front of the Princesses...
Okay I'm sorry if I'm starting to not make sense but my stories tend to write themselves as I try to explain them, at the beginning of this comment my plan was to have discord willingly send them away for a specific reason but now I'm thinking it'd be more hilarious if they ran off on their own or due to some random event, especially because that would make it easier for me to throw in more Discord moments if he's trying to subtly find them while covering their tracks... Huh...
I will say though (and please respond to this at your earliest convenience) who do you think Smarty will see as her parents? I'm asking this out of a genuine "I have no idea where I was going with this but I knew she wouldn't accept him as her father so I made that line and it seemed like a great time to stop and end the chapter but oh gosh I have no idea how to even continue that conversation" moment I'm having. I really can't stress enough how much this entire story was made up as it was typed, and how clueless I feel about where to continue it. I have a variety of ideas but nothing has jumped out at me yet (except for the idea I just mentioned earlier in this comment about how they separate from Discord) so honestly if you wanna toss some theories around with me PLEASE do so because I could use as much fuel for my brain as possible...
The only thing I have planned that's definite is that they will AT ONE POINT attempt to get to Ponyville for various reasons, and that both Tom and Smarty Pants have odd powers due to the amount of Chaos Energy stored in them. (I can tell you what my ideas are currently for those powers if you want but I don't want to spoil them without being asked for them)

Only you? I also write fanfiction for a long time and how many things have changed from what I planned and end up present? By experience I would say it is a good sign of writing actually. Like you said it is a product of our reflections about the characters and how they would react, to the point that seem to gain life for their own. And in Discord case I can almost see him writing his own lines for himself, or sitting on your shoulder whispering ideas, right?
Seriously now, as for Smarty parents I thought it was evident. Twilight as the mother
and Big Macintosh as the father
. In fact it would be hilarious if you put one scene in which she tries to join them together as an item (and perhaps involve the CMC too 
).
And I would recommend that her and Tom do hightail from Discord, putting him in a mad search for them while avoiding Celestia and her growing suspicions. I can already see some of their intercalations.

2797416 Hmm, I dun mean to be a jerk, but I don't think I'll be taking the story in the exact direction you have guessed. I mean, honestly thanks a ton for that comment too, because reading it and thinking about various stuff helped me figure out what direction I WILL be taking it in, so I certainly owe you one, but Smarty Pants is now physically (and to some extent, mentally, that part's a bit more difficult to just casually explain) only a few years younger than Twilight, like, maybe three years? I dunno, but ANYWAY, point is I now have various ideas thanks to your awesome encouragement and help, and shall now ATTEMPT to type the next chapter, which, with any luck, will be released on the 27th of June.
