Crimson Star has spent more time in a hospital than he has living life. Starting from an early age, a necessary operation has shaped his whole life thus far. When he gets sick again, he's pretty sure he knows what he's in for.
Told from the perspective of my OC's son, this story is inspired by my own life experiences, and is dedicated to anyone who has spent an extended period of time immersed in the medical world, especially from childhood.
Rated Teen for slightly older themes, minor graphic descriptions, and occasional use of ponified profanity.
Edited and Proofread by Shahrazad.
Cover Art by Little Tigress. Original cover by Norm can be found here.
Supplemental Art by Tsitra360 and Ayemel.

Probably from all that radiation poisoning from the sheer blinding luminescence of his family's coat colors being around him 24/7.
2748121 while offensive... It's still probably true

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Nuclear family"...

My sister has aplastic anemia and she was always in the hospital as a little girl, that's why my parents moved us to Massachusetts before I was born. She almost died and a friend she made at a hospital with the exact same condition died...my sister is ok now and only goes to the hospital once or twice a year now, used to be she would have to go every day, then every week, then every 2 weeks then every month, now its down to a year and she is an athlete. She braved through it and survived and I am happy she did.

Great to hear, PB. Since this story is based on my current experiences, I'm not going to say anything about how I'm doing. I don't want to ruin the story. You'll find out soon enough.
Give your sis a big high-five for me.

She is in Maine on a job that she doesn't like. She will be hope tomorrow but I will hug her for you, because its awkward to high five people for me....
Hello there!
Seems we got the same chose of title for our story
I'm about to start read the story, it sounds interesting as well deep.

I noticed that. Great minds, I guess, but from what I read in your description our stories are WAY different. Good luck with yours. I'll try to read it when I get the chance. I have a lot on my plate right now.
I shall place this on the read later list with thumb up. The feelings with young in medical will be a read. Reminds me of what my sibling went through.
I'l be here when you get back.
Nice read so far. I shall return when it is updated more.
Even when having a room of your own, I still think being in a hospital for.. awhile.. sucks a lot. Only bonus is after a while the nurses let you get away with many things.
Enjoy the holidays yourself too.
This story is really hitting home for me, my little brother was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia just a couple of months ago
thankfully he's receiving treatment at a really good hospital
I know I should look at it this way, but there is a terrible part of me that kind of hears him saying "So, you know, thanks for getting cancer." as an addendum.
I am the worst person ever! Please don't hate me LD!

P.S. Also, that image from last chapter was awesome, why don't you [img] link it at the bottom. Heck, it would make awesome cover art.
P.P.S. Finally getting through it! I promised, didn't I
P.P.P.S: SPOOOOOOOOOOOILERS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I know, I did realize that as I wrote that part out. But remember, they are kids, so despite Starry being able to work out that crazy logic, that wasn't exactly the first thing on his mind as he ranted. While it's not really implied, his single tear is a tear of sorrow as he realizes afterward that he basically just thanked his friend for getting sick, but doesn't bring it up in the hopes that Crimson didn't catch it (which he didn't— he saw the tear as a tear of joy). I TOTALLY planned that.
BTW, I only linked the piece at the bottom of that chapter (in the A/N on the word "here") on purpose. I'd rather just leave it there because it only pertains to that chapter and beyond, not before. Besides, I already had a cover piece that I didn't want to replace. Starry's painting was done for me as a perk (explanation in the link).
Edit: Changed my mind and put the image in.
I'm finally starting the next chapter. I've had a bit of writer's block because I wasn't sure how to continue from where I left off. There were multiple options and I was having trouble picking one I liked. While I'm still behind on editing that I want to finish, hopefully I'll have that chapter up soon. (I'm hoping before the end of the month, but no promises)
See you next update.
3922035 Yeah... Sorry that the chapters are short.
I'm going to need to space out publishing the chapters or I'm going to end up with another huge gap, so next chapter may not be up until next week.
Nice chapter.. see you again on the next one.
Again nice chapter.
Glad I changed the birthday of the character in the story you are editing a few days ago, it was that date.
Nice update
Oh, and *kicks Level in the shin* the color Sky Blue does not have a -
Tis my second favorite color!!
4405263 It works with or without. Anytime I've had that debate I google the word(s) in question with the hyphen in. If Google corrects it so it doesn't have the hyphen, then it's not supposed to be there. But in this case...

It goes both ways, so nyah.
Also, slight edit made to this chapter based on your comment about unicorn auras.
I had to re-read the description for that gift twice… light as in illumination, not as in heavy. Lol.
Shuddap, I'm tired!
Yeah Crimson, you dun messed up!
Ah women, they can twist anything into an insult.

I plead the 5th, I can neither confirm nor deny any allegations.

Honestly... so can men. Its a human thing, not restricted to a single gender

Another chapter finished!
Aww he doesn't like Asparagus, even non-hospital versions from the sounds of it, but it's good with some butter and salt.
Man, you write the happiest of chapters.
At least Tesla had the embarrassment capacity, better than Starry did. Lol.
4713302 Don't I?
I mean, the story is tagged "Sad" for a reason.
I love this. Thanks for the best chapter ever!!!!!

“Hey, at some point you’re going to have to figure out how to play single-player. I won’t always be here to play with you.”
Also, wondering how i can write a Euro Truck Simulator cross over. Big Mac and Caramel cross equestria convoy? Listening to country music.
Lol, you think i am joking, too... but i just spent the last three hours delivering car parts all around Germany. EXCITEMENT!
Sneaking behind Starry, she ducked underneath him and flipped him up onto my mattress. She followed him over the foot of the bed.
“Starry, we’ve been a trio for as long as I can remember. That doesn’t have to stop. You shouldn’t feel the need to leave us alone unless we ask you to.” I looked at Tess. “Right?”
Wait, wait… you never told me about this subplot, LD.

I HAVE NO REGRETS!
The mane of that blue Unicorn with the red mane and tail in the cover art looks like it's made of fire. Why is that?
6986982 Frequent exposure to static electricity makes her hair stand up all the time. I'm guessing you haven't read chapter 1 yet.
Well, that's all, folks!
An excellent story. Thank you for sharing it.
Good luck in the future
7061454 Thank you on both accounts, and thank you for your patience
(I see you're one of the few that's been reading from the beginning). I'm glad you enjoyed it.
5398780 I can't believe I missed that implication. Too bad it wasn't canon, but I'm all up for it.

Hush, you two. None of that up in here.
Tell me, was the reference intentional?
vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/deathbattlefanon/images/7/74/Amy_Rose.png/revision/latest?cb=20140720001839
7530164 Actually, it wasn't, although I did notice that myself when I was writing the chapter. I got a laugh out of it, too, especially since there is a blatant Sonic the Hedgehog reference later on (no spoilers with that, don't worry).
Well ........ This story made me feel like shit.
DAME YOU CANCER WHY DOSE ANYTHING TO YOU WITH YOU MAKE ME FELL DEPRESS AS FUCK!!!!!!!!
But my depression aside this is a great story, cancer is a bit of a taboo topic for people to discuss so openly, most people would rather just pretend it dose exist and get on with there life's like nothing happend and that pises me off to know end!!
But I am rambling back to the story.
I have no right to judge this story, given what it means to you and all, so I will live you with this "Fuck cancer with the moon
and I hope you and all the other people out there that have beaten cancer or are still fighting it live happy lives and never have to deal with it agen
."
7607740
It can be, yeah. I'm one of the lucky few that can talk about it like I caught a cold.
Thanks.
That's what I'm hoping for.
...Crap. That wasn't my intention at all. Sorry.
The story was primarily meant to give outsiders a look at the inner thoughts of a cancer patient and how they feel about what they have to go through sometimes. I hope that still came through.
If that reaction is due to Depression, I wish you the best of luck. I've somehow managed to avoid it myself, but based on what I've heard from others, it can be just as hard of a battle as cancer is. Fight on, my friend.
7608184
Mate I gave up trying to fight my depression after my third relapse. I have excepted that I get sad easy and tend to have thouts of a world with out me from time to time. What little friends I have stop me from going throu with it, that and video games help to.
But compered to cancer depression is noting, well on its own at least I can imagen a lot of cancer pashints develop depression and give up fighting.
7609005
Not me, my friend. I went through too much to just give up. I've got a good support system, too, so that helped a lot. And like you, video games.
Good to hear you've got friends helping you out. Hold on to them like a teddy bear.
