If anything, it's good that you're not "American". America doesn't exactly have a large list of people who excel in using actual English. I'm most likely one of the few who constantly check their grammar and punctuation, but even with foreigners it's like a blank canvas. If you put your mind to it, you could become a savant at speaking English more than Americans. Horrible grammar is everywhere though, even in Great Britain, one of the few places I suspected there would be a high amount of actual intelligent beings.
