Nopony chose this life for me.

I wander the open roads, weathering rain, sleet, snow, and wind. I stop at towns along the way, give a short performance, and then leave. Why do I do this? Is it because I have something to prove? Am I running from a forgotten past, always looking over my shoulder? Do I have something to hide?

Or maybe, just maybe, is it because I simply like the open road?

This was well done in my opinion.

Nothing short of amazing. :) Now get back to Snow and Shadows!!

I like it, particularly the idea that Trixie successfully got back into her travelling and performing post-Magic Duel.

This story appears to be some sort of response fic to the sad Trixie genre. Instead of milking Trixie's failure for easy emotional impact, it gives her the chance to learn from her mistakes on her own, and make actual improvement on her character.

The problem I have with it is that it relies on us knowing about the sad Trixie genre to have an effect, and the effect is just that it is different from them. If you look at it on its own, it doesn't actually hold much weight. Firstly, those cliche's are there for a reason, and I'm glad your not just creating mindless genre stories, but you must acknowledge that the cliche has formed, because at its heart it is a powerful story.

When moving in the opposite direction, you need something else to fill in the emotional connection gap. The story reads like 'a series of things that happen' rather than a narrative. It is supposed to be read as if Trixie is recounting the tale of her life to the reader, but it doesn't give enough time to really fit ourselves into Trixie's shoes. Things happen so fast, and with little consequence, there wasn't much to draw me in.

Also, if was strange how you tried to break away from the sad tropes at the start and then immediately played the drunk father card. It could have worked, but it needed more time spent on it.

A decent enough story if you want to read a story about Trixie being successful. If you like the idea of that story, this wont disappoint, but on its own, it doesn't stand out.
