24 year old brony in California (no I don't surf). Linguistics and Japanese major. Language and culture are my life. Fan of sci-fi and reading.

Sequels1

T
Source

Twilight Sparkle is visiting Earth. A contact has given her the location of a terrorist responsible for the deaths of hundreds of lives. But what will she do when she finds out their real plans?

Just something that came into my mind. It is technically in the same universe as my other stories. Technically because the future is not set in stone.

This is a one shot.

Again, this is not a TCB story.

Is yjis a Bad Future?

2720841
Seems pretty bad. If you are asking if it THE future, then I can't really tell you much other than look at the description and look for differences like with Sweetie. :unsuresweetie:
However, one question for you. What kind of author would reveal exactly where their story was going? What I can tell you is that there are reasons this was written. And to wait for the RD prediction which will be the eyeopener.

I find this chapter to be a welcoming closure to the story, despite how short it may be.
But I still desire to know what happened after Luna went to find Twilight, and whats special with Mr. Smith, since she needs him. :pinkiegasp:

2827755
'Traveler' (baring the finding of a better name), will pick up a few hours later, or a few weeks.

2830593
If thats the case, then ill wait patiently.

2831763
:pinkiegasp::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2:
You wouldn't have waited? :pinkiesad2:

I know the time difference can be a huge problem for readers. Disjointed info is harsh.

And I prefer too short to too long, but it just felt right.

2834460
Oh don't get me wrong there, it were more a figure of speech.
I'll just keep lurking other stuff, and work while I wait for you to write your story :ajsmug:
So don't get me wrong, I have all the time in the world, unless something happens to me ofc, hehe.

I have my theories as to who is who, and how it all fits together. I like the original timeline more.

2976018
Would love to hear your theories. :pinkiegasp::pinkiegasp::pinkiehappy: That was half the reason for making this.
The original timeline, as in the other stories, are the true timeline.

How the holy fuck did the war last 4 years.....These are PONIES were fighting! Humanity should have won in the first several months, especially modern humans.

3972380
Never assume. There should be no way a mouse can kill a snake, but ask snake owners why they knock out the mice before feeding them to the snake. Anything will fight if backed into a corner. Not to mention deities like Celestia and Luna, powerful shields from Shining Armor and Cadance that could survive a lot of force. Faith in their technology is also a weakness in humans. Tech isn't that hard to beat. Feel free to discuss it though.

Could also ask how a war in just 128,565 sq mi of land can last over a decade. (Vietnam)

3972724 Sooooo your going down the path of OP magic? Shining Armor's shield went down in several minutes when rammed by hundreds of changelings, Celestia and Luna are NOT fucking gods, and not EVERYSINGLE unicorn in exsistence has magic as strong as Twilight's. RANT DONE.

3974792
I said nothing about OP. Shining Armor's shield went down after it had been up for weeks and his energy drained from Chrysalis, and it could also be strengthened by his wife. And there was no point where I even mentioned other unicorns being Twilight's level because they aren't. I don't feel like force calculations either for hundreds of changelings banging into a wall at the same time. My point was that technology has weaknesses that they could exploit. And in mythology not all deities are supreme beings (Shintoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American mythologies) And depending on your mythos, gods can be killed. It was more about what they represent and the fact that they are more powerful than other ponies. And if they are even half as strong as Discord, then yeah, they are pretty powerful. Heck even in Christianity God rarely acts and always in small ways.

Oh, and you still have yet to argue how technology could win. Or argue anything really. Its been more just angry yelling.

3975826 Ever hear of Sniper Rifles? Or heavy artillery? Or air support? We would trash ponies.

3975867
Huh. Nope. Never heard of any of it. But good luck getting half that stuff through the portal described in that book. Also, geomagnetic storms. Or dragons, I doubt even a Barrett could get through their armor, besides which its just another tool designed for very specific situations. Also, heavy artillery only works on the ground and could be harder to set up, as for air support? Are you forgetting that ponies can fly and can't be picked up by radar, or how hard it is too shoot something like that down?

And you still aren't coming up with an argument, merely words designed to give the appearance of knowledge. And I never talked strategy. Many a war have been lost by under estimating your opponent.

3976065

Or dragons, I doubt even a Barrett could get through their armor

Do you even-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_BMG
This is the bullet a Barret uses.

3976323
Yes, a .50 caliber. I do know all the technical specifications to that weapon and many more. I can also tell you that the longest confirmed sniper kill was at 1.54 miles and the bullet fell 400 feet in that time and took 6 seconds to travel there. Do you know how tough a dragon's scale and skin are though? Or how hard it is to hit a moving target with a rifle? Or how fast a dragon can fly? Instead of automatically thinking you are smarter than I am, why do you try thinking I just might know what I am talking about and try to actually reason. Oh, and a head shot is not a guaranteed kill.

Come back with an argument. Not these "what about this" or "do you even" shit. That's not how arguments or discussions work.

3976449 A Barret Round would penetrate Dragon Skin body armor. Even if it didn't, the kinetic force would still seriously injure the wearer. A .50 BMG round can produce between TEN THOUSAND TO FIFTEEN THOUSAND pounds of force.

3978181
Oooh, unneeded caps locks. I know how powerful they are and how they are used. The issue about breaking through is the setup, if it doesn't it depends on how the under layer is constructed. I will assume you know how standard type III body armor works so I won't explain it.

Here is a link on dragons: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OurDragonsAreDifferent
And it really depends on what bread and influence you are taking them from. The people I talked to were saying .50 cal is the minimum needed and that is still a lot of mass to stop when looking at as big as a house and fly 80 miles an hour. Again, depending on your type.

Now the thing is, the author can make up what they want to make the world more interesting. And I do base it off of canon but our observances may just be different. Being able to control the sun is huge, and I've already brought up Discord who wasn't so powerful as to kill off the two sisters. Would those weapons be powerful? Hell yeah. But another thing about war is that it teaches you things and weapons advance so quickly. And never attack an enemy on their home turf which is what happened in this story. Especially when even the relationship to Diamond Dogs cannot be discerned. Most unicorns have been shown to use telekinesis to pick up ponies of equal size and if you follow the height that would equal the weight of an average human, this excludes throwing items at speed. Then there is the fact that ponies can use tech but humans (at least at that point) were still trying to figure out how to create magic.

Pegasi can fly meaning you have another direction humans aren't trained to look in and easily able to hide and drop bombs. Planes are easy to take down with flak or even just an EMP (geomagnetic storm is actually much worse than an EMP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_storm#Historical_occurrences). And Luna has been shown to create thunderclouds which could probably be made to shoot lightning (wonder how well it could be controlled)

Others types of magic: illusions, fireworks (Trixie), lets not forget Zecora and her force, etc.

This is more approaching a rant.

3982517 I don't know about body armor. I just am sick of how many authors portray the ponies as being overpowered and I really don't want to see your stories turn into "Poonies have magik, teh whin Lolololo."

3982548
4 years, I don't think they had it easy, and they didn't win. But overconfidence has ended many a general's life. I was hoping you might bring up that the US has over 1 million military (not all fighters but still boot camp trained) personnel and tends to win wars through attrition and not skill (WWII tank battles with tigers). Or the underhanded weapons like the bouncy betty (there is a more modern version of it), nerve gas, lines to tangle up pegasi, or other such things (the allusions to things best left forgotten).

Body armor works by stopping the round and dissipating the energy over a larger area.

If anything I would put them relatively near each other in strength, neither magic nor tech is a beat all weapon. Also the only way it is interesting is if they are relatively evenly matched.

One thing you should also know is that I started some of these ideas in retaliation to those stories. I really don't like TCB or some of the others because they paint one side as perfect and the other as inferior.

3985310

I was also like to recommend a book to you. Man-Kzin Wars by Larry Niven. Humanity has become pacifistic as they spread across the stars, violence is considered a mental disorder. Then they are attacked by the Kzinti, basically space tigers. But the point was also how quickly humanity developed weapons that were effective, or tactics that the predators couldn't think of due to a different mentality.

One of the weapons that used tiny glass shards propelled at speed as weapons. Think of when someone runs into a plate glass window but the shards are aimed, intentionally sharpened, and flying at the target. I'm am pretty sure ponies could imitate this, even the most basic unicorn should be able to launch several at speeds in excess of 30 miles per hour.

Pegasi are too small to be detected by radar (birds have the same problem hence bird strikes), and can easily drop bombs or lob something into jet engines. This is ignoring weather manipulation which even with weakened magic could devastate an area, especially when places like California are already suffering massive droughts. Or maybe just give a little push to hurricanes/tornadoes.

I tend to keep things a little too close to my chest, which I shouldn't, and I do realize how strong human tech is, but you also never push an animal against a wall, they act unpredictably and brutally.

Oh, and human tech has one major weakness in solar storms. 1989 in Canada or the near miss in 2012. :trollestia::trollestia::trollestia:

4470153 So your one of those people that think Celestia actually controls the sun?

4470351
Depends what you mean by control. If she has the power to raise and lower it in Equestria, why couldn't she move a small section of Sol's surface for a few seconds? That's all it requires, shifting the surface a little.

Would love to hear your theories/thought. :pinkiehappy:

4470420 Im ok. I'm just sick of people like you constantly fapping to magic.

4471639
:ajsleepy:
Wow, assume much?

Going to assume here you don’t know much about conflict in storytelling. Either that or you ponies must be subservient because “Technology is BAWS”

I actually worship at the feet of Niven and Asimov. I read almost exclusively science fiction and prefer the tougher stuff that uses actual science (hard scifi). I am not actually a fan of fantasy and that includes magic. However, that brings with it an analysis of facts and evidence.

Magic has been around as long as humans have though (most mythology is based off of it if not all). In literature it goes back to Homer. Modern times Tolkien might be better remembered. Anime is another modern source that deals with magic, so it Avatar the Last Airbender. If you want to see magic versus technology in literature which is rather rare the Hell’s Gate and Hell Hath no Fury is not bad. Santa Claus is magic, don’t you still believe in him?

Technology, at least the modern variant is still rather new, you can thank the Dark Ages for that one. How long has man flown? Been to space? Been able to communicate faster than post (mail)? What do we even know about our bodies or the universe around us? Still very little. Quantum Comunication has only now been used in a laboratory setting.

If I thought magic was the end all be all, which still wouldn’t mean I “fap” to it. I would do such things and mind control/manipulation, earth magic to cause earthquakes, water manipulation could drown a person in the desert by using their own bodily fluids, pyromancy (nuff said on that one), control of electricity.

And yes, I do know a bit on the subject, I read quite a few reference materials before starting any of this so I depicted magic adequately and talked to people far more knowledgeable about it than myself. But I doubt you have any knowledge of magic as you leap straight to insult.

I would insult you back, but it’s not me.

4474277 Ok. It's just, nearly everyone on this site sees magic and goes "DERR, ALL UNICORNS CAN MELT TANKS AND ALL PEGASI CAN FLY FASTER THAN MACH 9836361816495716..." And so on. Also, have you ever seen the pacifistic nature of the ponies, and how not a single pony has been shown with a cutie mark related to combat magic?

4475150
I have noticed that, also how they tend to run at trouble, only fighting when others are at risk. Hence humans which would be natural predators. The only ones with combat magic would be the guards and we never see their cutie marks (I blame it being a kids show). There would be no need for a civvie to use or have experience with combat magic.

The heat needed to melt a tank is freakin insane, as in over 6000 degrees farenheit, you would need a whole battalion just to accomplish that which would never work, there are more things on the battlefield than just one tank. After-all a unicorn can only use simple telekinesis or magic related to their special talent.

As for speed, you are looking at MACH 1 being the typical wall in terms of pegasi. There would be outliers of course similar to the history of the five minute mile. But being slow can also be a huge advantage in air to air combat as it give you more maneuverability.

And just because someone is a pacifist doesn't mean they can't fight. You back an animal into a corner, especially an intelligent one :unsuresweetie: it won't come out nice. Guerrilla warfare and propaganda come to mind. (Civil War and the Boston Massacre, talk about great propaganda on that one). Anything can be turned into a weapon if you look hard enough.

They are also near the bottom of their food chain and have to have some defensive capabilities evolutionarally speaking. There are quite a few other issues to be had, they are faster and humans have a block in their minds about magic due to science, ponies might have the same issues. But they can think, in order to use an EMP you would have to know why it would be valuable, and it could only be used once before the enemy adapts, and lets face it, only the sights on guns would be effective, lead still flies out the end.

Another thing about war is that it teaches things very quickly, the dumb die first. Picking the appropriate field of battle is also important. Sneak attacks, home field advantage, stretching out supply lines and starving troops. A LOT of funding goes into devising new ways to kill, WWII is a perfect example of that: Jet engine, radar, synthetic rubber, computers, and the list goes on for quite a while. How well people can work together, humans can be pretty fragmented and opportunistic, WWII again, but would be less so against aliens. Intelligence of the leaders is important to, Hitler was brilliant but his ego caused him to ignore better minds and lose. I would suggest Sun Tzu for that. And I think Celestia with her years could at least be a decent tactician, if not her then Luna.

As for things on this site ... Sturgeon's Law which states that 90% of everything is crap. I don't tend to do much on this site for that reason. I also tend to write because I see what other people do and gripe about it being utter tripe and making no sense (some are worse than others). And that Law was originally about science fiction no less, where a LOT of it is not worth the paper its written on.

This is why I like debate and arguing topic and ideas, truly a wonderful way to gain new insight. And sorry I have only been arguing one side, going for tech wouldn't have been as effective.

4477396 This has going on way too long.. Lets just agree to disagree. I still think that it's retarded for a living creature to be able to stop a .50 with its skin, though.

4477892

Fine with ending it, and i never said anything was stopping a bullet with its skin. 自分の世話をする

Now, this is more hardcore, waiting until its release.

4910619 Your prefer the more action oriented?

4910723 If it its logical, then yes, here sweety bell was killed and Rainbow crashed a plane, this made things harder than Politics, I expect a lot os fights in both sides.

4910819 Another thing was time. How long tensions can be maintained before snapping. The amount of time for hatred or fear to build, or for others to plan and manipulate. in both sides?

Wow it was confusing at first.. Damn alternative realities
War war never changes

Thank you for showing a possible future where Celestia and the Twilight Mary-sue team get what they deserve. (Death and PTSD)
I can finally rest in peace.
