Well look at it this way, there's being free, and then there's carrying around a dangerous weapon with you. Applejack doesn't trust Jason so she takes his knife away for safe keeping and Celestia doesn't object because she knows how dangerous Jason could be and doesn't trust him yet despite her words.

So unless you subscribe to the 'anarchy is the only true freedom' philosophy, Jason still has the freedom to make his own choices and he even later on asks for his knife back and gets it back.

I started reading this yesterday and I keep noticing a recurring grammatical error. Every time I see it part of my soul breaks off and withers away. If you could stop using "your" instead of "you're" I would greatly appreciate it. I would really love to finish the story with my soul intact. Thanks.

god damn care to shed some light on this I might get twenty maybe even a hundred years but seven and a half thousand years that leads me to two options either the humans were holding back and never intended to actually wipe out the alicorns or the alicorns had a literally infinite supply of soldiers I mean we have auto turrets ,snipers ,tanks ,satellites that drop tungsten spears from space ,the MOAB ,WMDs ,we are in the middle of making plasma shields and if we throw the geneva convention out of the window we'd have even worse things by the time the alicorn war would have started we’d have the ability to liquefy armies with sound cannons (we already have non lethal versions) to me it sounds like the alicorns were the aggressors and humans never wanted to wipe them out.

My theory is that Nemeses was created from the hatred of some humans but wanted more power so he used propaganda and lies to turn the alicorns against the humans allowing him to fuel his embodiment.The humans went defencive but with the war waging everyone's’ hatred grew allowing him gain power until he was ready to end his unwitting creators and die while enacting his greatest act of vengeance against the humans their own creation destroying them with their own spell. It truly was one final FU from the monster who both started and decided to end the war .
True that does not explain why we held back for so long and didn't nuke them fast and live in underground bunkers until the radiation was at manageable levels or create a pony only disease but even if I'm way off I think my take was way more awesome than humans turning evil for the luls.

It's been retconned to 4 thousand years

All I'll say is that Humanity was in a very weak state and lost much of its technological knowledge and resources. The Alicorns had an extremely bloated population all whol lived ludicrously long to have man you children. A large part of the war were stalemates involving long-range fire being thrown back and forth or just holding ground. The intense fighting only occurred at the beginning and towards the end.

It's also important to note that the humans were winning and probably would've won had it not been for Solaire and Nemesis using the scroll.
