As they watch the distant city of Cloudsdale work tirelessly with its new water, the two of them reminisce about their younger days, and wonder why the two of them had drifted so far apart.

Imagine, if you will, that Twilight Sparkle never met Princess Celestia.

Pretty original premise, right?

Well, how about instead of somepony predictable, a different pony took the entrance exam... and passed!

This is about Zecora, a zebra on vacation who stumbled into the wrong room and changed her fate forever.

Big Gala is a mare of few words. She's a hard worker, helping her brother run the farm as well as cooking and cleaning up after her family.

Sugarsnap is her best friend. She's a shy pony who only gets chatty around Gala and makes a living working at the local sweet shop.

Thundercloud is the third in the group. She's a pegasus who all the stallions admire. However, she does tend to suffer from stage fright.

Three mares, all best friends in a town of stallions. How do they make it through the day?

"Derpy..." He knew he needed to say something, but, well...Words had never really been Thunderlane's strong suit. Taking a quick moment to think on what would be the right thing, he hunched down next to her, resting his cheek on his own forelegs as he peered at her. "I'm glad you're not part a my family."

Her muffled sob was a very clear indication that that was decidedly not what she wanted to hear.

Thunderlane had never thought he would meet a mare who would turn everything he knew on love and relationships upside down. He always figured that if he ever found a mare worth dating, she would be a close friend of his who he could talk to easily.

That was before a simple mix-up introduced him to Derpy.

Now on a date with the wall-eyed pegasus, he finds out that sometimes a pony needs another to sleep peacefully.

How do you kill a pegasus's soul? Put her in charge of the town's weather, then only let her schedule sunny days and gentle evening showers. Not thunderstorms, not blizzards, certainly not hail or tornadoes.

Nothing fun, in other words. Celestia forbid the weather team make some real weather, the kind Rainbow Dash dreams about. The farmers would never stand for that.

Well, screw the farmers. Screw the fashionistas and screw the library princess too if she complains. Rainbow Dash has a dream and she's going to share it with the world, whether the world wants it or not.

The Crusaders are discussing their next crusade when their fellow classmate, Rumble, asks them for some help. Apparently, his older brother, Thunderlane, has been acting really strangely: going out without saying where to, coming home late, and the strange smell of apples coming off of him whenever he does... And it turns out, Apple Bloom has been noticing some strange things going on with Applejack, who has been doing the same thing!

But, when following the two ponies, they're surprised to find out they're... Dating?!
