Shortly after trying to apologize to everypony in Maretime Bay for what he did to Sunny’s lighthouse, the ponies deny his apology. Thanks to Sunny, the Mane 6 have the idea to take Sprout and his mother Phyllis to the Isle of Scaly for their encounter with the dragons to prove that Sprout can be trustworthy again.

Sprout Cloverleaf just can’t seem to get into the Hearth’s Warming mood. It’s not that he hates this yearly holiday, he just isn’t as excited, or even interested. Nothing to make him truly feel happy.

In Starlight Ridge, strange sounds have been heard. some kind of creepy ambient like music is playing from a distant mountain, every day and night at 12PM/AM. Meanwhile in Maretime Bay, Sprout is wishing he could have a taste of adventure like the mane 6, and when Misty is sought after to find out the meaning behind the strange noises, Sprout may have just gotten his wish. Will they be able to find the source of these strange noises? Read on to find out.

It's just not fair. He was the only one who truly understood the threat of the other species, the stallion who mobilized Maretime Bay in the battle for ultimate victory, and what did it get him? A criminal record and community service. And now the unicorns and pegasi are just moving around HIS city like they own the place and that's totally unfair. His mother should own the place (through having sold more anti-them stuff) and once she'd stepped aside? It would be Sprout time!

But nopony recognizes how vital he is. They expect him to pick up litter and worse, to do it before Hitch. They don't understand that ponies are meant to be afraid. All the time. Then somepony can be in charge. Like him. (Again.) And if they're not going to be terrified of wings and horns...

All Sprout wanted to do was learn about chess. A leather book embossed with a rook on it's cover in gold leaf caught the ex-sherrif's eye. No title to it, strangely enough. While the lack of a title should have been a red flag, Sprout's curiosity and naivete cause him to read it anyway.
